And with a big night and 47 points in the book for his 38th birthday Lebron James is now 527 points away from the record. The speed which has putting up these points at this age amd his 20th season is very impressive.
Kareem - 38,387
LeBron - 37,860
Next game Jan 2nd at Charlotte Hornets 7pm est.
Happy New Year!

At current pace, Lebron will score about 1K more points rest of this season - putting him at 38,860. Which means he needs 1140 more career points for 40K. That is about 50 more games at 23ppg for age 39 and age 40 season.
Let's go Lebron!

Lakers are making playoffs and he’ll reach the record after getting Finals MVP. Easy!

he can possibly rack up 44,000 + points by the time he retires.
He can't even average 25 ppg this season... Next season he will drop like stone possibly bellow 20 ppg.
Just saw this post. No way this guy spends less than half his waking hours fuming about Lebron being good at basketball

Bron is also quietly inching toward passing up some guys in all-time assists totals over the next 15-20 games as well.
He could pass up Nash and Mark Jackson in assists and Kareem in points in the same game.

You are correct also. As of right now he's 80 away from Mark Jackson and 81 away from Steve Nash which would put him 4th all time. Can he ever catch CP3 is the question. I think both Kidd and definitely Stockton are out of reach though.
He's also 40 steals shy of Clyde Drexler for 8th alltime. Probably will be done this season also.
He's also 3 rebounds away from passing Tyson Chandler on the all time list. In the next few weeks hell be passing Chandler, Ben Wallace, David Robinson and Dr.J on the all time list in rebounds.

Here’s a fun thought for most epic regular season shot: Lebron breaks Wilt’s single game record of 100 and Kareem’s career points record in the same game, on the same shot.

If he falls 100 shy of it he absolutely should gun for 101. Haha

Skip Bayless would criticize Lebron for his career free throw shooting despite setting the two records .

That's a bit of hyperbole. With the high scoring games now, and players entering the league at 19 (and soon 18 again), it's very likely to be topped. I wouldn't be shocked if it was Doncic. Regardless, I learned from hating Jordan, appreciate greatness.Optms wrote:Larry_Russell wrote:am I the only one that doesnt really care about it?

Players are scoring a huge amount of points per game but also resting more than ever and you have to factor in injuries as well. Lebron was basically indestructible throughout his career up until his mid 30s and never really missed significant time or rested many games. Luka has averaged 66 games a season his first 4 years, Lebron averaged 79 games a season through the same and 77 through his first 11 years! Luka has yet to crack 2k points in a season meanwhile Lebron cracked 2k points 9 times in his first 11 seasons. Even KD who is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history has only scored more than 2k points 6 times in his career, Kobe did it 8 times, Harden 7 times.
Wherever the record ends when Lebron claims it, we probaly won't see it broken for ages because to reach it you need to be an all-time scorer, not injury prone, barely rest, join the league young and have a really long career at a high level.

It’s just mind boggling longevity but the one thing dampening it a bit is that players of the earlier eras didn’t have the benefit of the 3 pt shot - either playing before it was introduced or playing while it was under-emphasized/rarely taken/rarely practiced.
Kareem was grinding it out with heavily contested 2’s.
Lebron is still a couple thousand FGM shy of Kareem.

I actually don’t have much confidence in Doncic’s ability to take care of his body throughout his career to score with the level of consistency needed to break the record. So far he hasn’t struck me as someone who extremely dedicated to maintaining his health and body the same way Kareem and LeBron did. But even if he or someone else does break the record you’re still talking another 20 to 30 years before we see it again. Some of us are going to be some old ass men before we see it again.

I wouldn't be shocked if Doncic looks like Spurs Boris Diaw by age 35

Just to add some context:
Doncic has 8,220 career points. LeBron was almost 600 days younger when he reached that point total.
