Kareem was grinding it out with heavily contested 2’s.

Lebron is still a couple thousand FGM shy of Kareem.

That's mostly a fair critique, but at the same time, you've got to be able to make them. No team is going to let a 20% 3pt shooter jack up 10 3s a game.

You don't get anywhere near those LeBron (or Kareem, or probably even Malone) numbers if you play a steady 65 games per season at 34 minutes per game. If we use the Doncic example, and he's probably a fair example to take for "load management" of a current & future superstar.

I’ve just now started checking numbers on this and it’s only just sinking in how ridiculous this is.

If a player was to be drafted in this upcoming draft and as a rookie averages 30 points per game, then repeats that for every single season of their career, playing in 70 games each year and retired in 2042...

they would still be 195 points short of Lebron’s current total and 617 short of Kareem’s all time record.

Lebron will hold the record for at least 40 years . I don’t think it’s breakable .

It's going to be a very long time if ever. Maybe if the NBA added a 4 point line. It's not like after he breaks the record the number stops. He's going to keep adding to it. 40,000 points will be here next season. Who knows when he retires what hell end the number at.

This may join the unbreakable records in basketball like the steals, assists, rebounds and consecutive games played records.

That's a lot. I think there's always a bit of luck involved in greatness. This era is actually perfect for LBJ since there aren't any of those dominant PFs, like KG, Duncan, prime Amare etc. left. In addition, despite there a incredible amount of shooters in the league, very few players are running around stagger screens and in constant motion the way shooters used to be back when teams only had one shooter on the court.

That's means LBJ can basically always semi coast on defense by just picking one of the random wings or even bigs. This means he can conserve more energy and play more minutes. Doesn't take anything away from his greatness. Anyone that saw his game when he came into the league compared to him now knows that he put in the work. Obviously, similar things can be said about [insert star player here], like Steph was injured and that's why they didn't trade him and then the dubs put a great team around him blabla. There will always be SOME luck/coincidence involved.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Guy will finish the season as the all time top scorer, 4th most assists of all time, top 10 in steals and 3PTM, top 35 in rebounds, and 8th most regular season games played. Also in the top 100 in blocks. Most complete player ever without a question.

Even in the 3pt era and marvels of modern medicine, I highly doubt this record will be broken. Plus he's going to have god knows how many more seasons to continue to cement it. The combination of freakish talent and abnormal longevity is absurd.

That's a bit of hyperbole. With the high scoring games now, and players entering the league at 19 (and soon 18 again), it's very likely to be topped. I wouldn't be shocked if it was Doncic. Regardless, I learned from hating Jordan, appreciate greatness.

Players are scoring a huge amount of points per game but also resting more than ever and you have to factor in injuries as well. Lebron was basically indestructible throughout his career up until his mid 30s and never really missed significant time or rested many games. Luka has averaged 66 games a season his first 4 years, Lebron averaged 79 games a season through the same and 77 through his first 11 years! Luka has yet to crack 2k points in a season meanwhile Lebron cracked 2k points 9 times in his first 11 seasons. Even KD who is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history has only scored more than 2k points 6 times in his career, Kobe did it 8 times, Harden 7 times.

Wherever the record ends when Lebron claims it, we probaly won't see it broken for ages because to reach it you need to be an all-time scorer, not injury prone, barely rest, join the league young and have a really long career at a high level.

I predict he gets it at home vs the Pels on the 15th.

399 points away is the total now after a 24 point vs the Mavs.

Kareem - 38,387
LeBron- 37,989

And I made a mistake the other night. LeBron is now 11 points shy of the 38,000 mark. My mistake.

Next game Sun Jan 15th vs Sixers 9:30pm est.

Getting those points at the expense of the team record.

Lol the team is missing their second best player, would you prefer that Austin Reaves take more shots?
