2023 trade deadline (February 9)

Trade deadline is exactly a month away. It is going to be real interesting this time because the line between buyers and sellers are very blurry. Lots of teams with ugly win-loss record still have a decent shot to make the play-in. The playoffs/play-in race is super tight. So...

1. Who will be the buyers?
2. Who will be the sellers?
3. Who are the big names that will be traded?
4. Who's the best player that will be traded?

Wasn't expecting it at the start of the season, but the Raptors are definitely going to be busy on the phones. Whether or not anything actually transpires, who knows.

It seems to be a sellers market which usually means prices are going to be high and most good players are going to stay put. I don’t expect any significant moves being made. Everyone is holding their limited assets for “that one player” and will not jeopardize minimal short term gain for longterm negative ramifications .

I am expecting an extremely busy trade deadline. The league is wide open with 6 teams I'd consider contenders (Denver, Boston, Milwaukee, Brooklyn, Memphis, Philadelphia).

Additionally, I count another 9 strong teams that have a chance to make some noise and reach the Conference Finals if they're able to plug some holes in their roster, get healthy, or continue to improve internally (Cleveland, Dallas, New Orleans, LAC, Golden State, Phoenix, LAL, Atlanta and Miami).

Then there are another 5 teams that seem intent on making the Playoffs no matter what even though they're fringe teams at best (Sacramento, Portland, Minnesota, New York, and Washington).

That's 20 teams that could potentially be buyers at the trade deadline. The other 10 teams are all in some state of rebuild and will likely be looking to sell at the deadline and start stacking ping pong balls (although Chicago is an absolute wild card here).

trail blazers will definitely be buyers, our bench is atrocious and needs to get sorted out, so that will be priority or at least thats what i believe, although, joe cronin could try something with the starting five (ant, nurk, hart), hes not afraid to make moves

Blazers need to do whatever they can to help their bench out. The 19/20 year olds are not cutting it and it’s obvious.

Phoenix needs something but they seem pretty locked-in to their decline. Very difficult to see any deal happening that makes them better or puts them in a better position long-term.

The only move that makes sense is for Ishbia to purge the front office of James Jones. Once that happens, we can finally see what is available to turn things around; but, unfortunately, by then it could be too late.

Ross and Bamba both make sense. I'd be mildly surprised if anyone wanted to trade for Ross, he's not been good in a while, although maybe playing for a contender would help motivate him a little more. I'd be happy to lose Bamba but the last I heard (might've changed since) our asking price could be a stumbling block. Really hope we keep Harris, he's a great veteran presence on a roster which doesn't have many and he's an effective floor spacer for us.

Clippers need a more athletic big to share minutes with Zubac. Maybe bring back Hartenstein. Or, see who else might be available.

Denver is looking for a bench piece not a starting level talent. Jokic, Gordon, MPJ, KCP and Murray are looking like a true contender level group with good chemistry. Bones and Brown are great in reserve. None of these guys are available.

Backup center is an issue and the only likely trade target but Denver has little to trade back after protecting the above (also no picks are available). If they find a bench piece it will have to come cheap.

I'd like the Bulls to make changes, but now that they're playing better I doubt that they'll do anything. If nothing else I think they should consider trading Alex Caruso if they can get something decent for him. Good player, but I think the roster can be okay without him.

MPJ, Gordon and Murray are fools gold. Especially MPJ and Gordon who being crap at defense disable Denver from ever seriously competing for a title.
