The next 9 games until All Star Break 1/30-2/15

Post#1 » by Stone » Tue Dec 13, 2022 1:33 pm

We have three full days off before our next game in Toronto. So in the meantime we could use a filler thread to discuss our expectations.

Durning our recent seven game home stand we went 6-1. We did have some luck in that some of our opponents were without their top players. Also the only back to back was against the Magic at home.

The upcoming schedule has us playing 7 of the next 10 on the road. My guess is that we go 6-10. That Warriors, Bucks, Cavs, Hawks, stretch is our biggest concern. I'm figuring we go 2-2. I also have us losing to one opponent we should beat and my gut is telling me it could be the Spurs at home on 01/02. But really it the NBA anything could happen any night, lets just hope its only one loss like that instead of 2 or 3. I also think that Pelicans game on is going to be tough one.

JV has kept thing interesting, Playoff lineups and minutes one game and then complete chicanery with the G league players.

Here is a look

1) Raptors 12/16 Away
2) Pistons 12/18 Away
3) Warriors 12/21 Home
4) Bucks 12/23 Home
5) Cavs 12/26 Away
6) Hawks 12/28 Away
7) Hornets 12/31 Away
8) Spurs 01/02 Home
9) Bulls 01/04 Away
10) Pelicans 01/06 Away

We should beat Toronto, Pistons, Hawks, Hornets, Spurs, and Bulls.

If we can't split 2-2 our games against Warriors, Bucks, Cavs, and Pelicans at worst then that is all you need to know about where we are.

I expect the Nets to go 0-4 against GS, Milwaukee, Cleveland and New Orleans unless key players for those teams miss the games. I also expect the Nets to go 5-1 or 6-0 against the other 6 teams, as they are all mediocre-to-lousy, and the Nets have been cleaning up against teams in that tier since getting healthy and getting used to JV.

It's a bit like the 1st half of last season, when the Nets were in 1st place in the EC for a while despite having zero wins against good teams. There are enough crappy teams so that a team like the Nets can put together a decent record despite not being a contender.

If we go 0-4 versus those teams, I give up

Expecting us to go 2-2 at best against the toughest 4 opponents here. While we match up fine against the Warriors and Cleveland, the Pelicans and Bucks will expose our lack of size.

Looking forward to Clax vs Jarrett!

I'm not sure his advanced stats show it, but the Cavs really fall apart when Fro isn't playing. Say what you want about the other four stars & semi-stars, but Jarrett is arguably the MVP and key to Cleveland.

I love to see it. Just kinda sad DLo and Caris' careers didn't take a similar arc, at least on a consistent basis.

The Fro is immense, but the development of Clax has really dampened the blow of losing him. If Clax can sort the free throws out he'd be almost as good as Fro at providing what we require out of a 5.

As for the others, at least Jared Dudley got a ring.

Just because we haven't beaten good teams doesn't mean we cannot.

Talent wise we can beat anybody. KD/Ky/Simmons are just starting to develop chemistry.

I expect us to get some big wins.

Good point....Here is a look at the games we played under JV

11/7 Away Dallas 96- Nets 94 (JV interim coach) Loss
11/9 Home Knicks 85- Nets 112 Win
11/12 Away Clippers 95- Nets 110 Win
11/13 Away Lakers 116- Nets 103 Loss
11/15 Away Kings 153 - Nets 121 Loss
11/17 Away Blazers 107- Nets 109 Win
11/20 Home Grizzlies 115- Nets 127 Win
11/22 Away 76ers 115- Nets 106 Loss
11/23 Away Raps 98- Nets 112 Win
11/25 Away Pacers 128- Nets 117 Loss
11/27 Home Blazers 97- Nets 111 Win
11/28 Home Magic 102- Nets 109 Win
11/30 Home Wizards 107- Nets 113 Win
12/2 Home Raps 105- Nets 114 Win
12/4 Home Celtics 103- Nets 92 Loss
12/7 Home Hornets 116- Nets 122 Win
12/9 Home Hawks 116- Nets 120 Win
12/10 Away Pacers 133- Nets 136 Win
12/12 Away Wizards 100- Nets 112 Win

With a 13-6 record under JV, it looks like we are moving in the right direction. As much as we would all like to to see us win against the leagues best teams. It is just as important to just keep moving forward and keep growing and gelling.

So far the best team we beat was the Grizzlies without Ja Morant. I also believe we have the talent, we just to go out and prove it. So it is important to win a few against the better teams just for moral and to gain confidence. But we have to be just as concerned winning the games against teams we should beat.

8 - 2 win / loss is what my crystal ball says.
After 7th Jan results Nets are 3rd in the East 1 game behind 2nd, 2 n half games behind 1st.

Steph Curry is out for the next few weeks with an injury. The Nets MUST win that 12/21 match up versus Golden State. No excuses.

Yeah no Steph for Warriors game is huge.

We should find a way to win the next 3. With so much rest I'm hoping we can beat Toronto.

Detroit is just a bad team and has no Cade.

Warriors are terrible on the road and have no Curry.

Sometimes I feel more scared facing an injured team, especially after that Philly game...

Anyway standings are slowly favoring us. The gap between the Nets and Celtics/Bucks is shortening to the point where I think a 2nd seed is actually possible.

Post#15 » by Stone » Fri Jan 6, 2023 6:22 pm

Update : The 10 games are now complete and we won 9 of our last 10 games.

1) Raptors 12/16 Away Win
2) Pistons 12/18 Away Win
3) Warriors 12/21 Home Win
4) Bucks 12/23 Home Win
5) Cavs 12/26 Away Win
6) Hawks 12/28 Away Win
7) Hornets 12/31 Away Win
8) Spurs 01/02 Home Win
9) Bulls 01/04 Away Loss
10) Pelicans 01/06 Away Win

The next 10.

1) Heat 1/8 Away
2) Celtics 1/12 Home
3) Thunder 1/15 Home
4) Spurs 1/17 Away
5) Suns 1/19 Away
6) Jazz 1/20 Away Note: Second game of back to back
7) Warriors 1/22 Away
8) 76ERS 1/25 Away
9) Pistons 1/26 Home Note: Second game of back to back
10) Knicks 1/28 Home

This leg of our schedule is going to a challenge. We have 2 B2B's and we face 7 playoff teams, compared to 6 in the last 10.

We also face 5 straight away games in a row.

We could take a step backwards in these 10 games and go less than 500%. Or we could send the league a message that we are for real.

Looking for someone to post up tonights game thread against the Pelicans.

I'm still expecting @Miami to be an Indiana style rest game, since it would give players 6 straight days off. Resting Vs Boston would give 7 straight days, but I can't imagine we'd rest guys vs Boston. If we don't rest @ Miami because it's a conference opponent, then vs OKC is the only other opportunity to get guys a sizable break. It worked out well last time, so I am curious to see if we keep trying to find opportunities to give guys about a full week off rather than focusing on resting in back to backs. A week off in December, 6 days off in January and then the all-star break in February would be a pretty good rest and recover cadence.

You might have to post the game thread this time my dude, no one else really comes around til game time if that :(

Regarding our schedule, all of these games are winnable, but we do need to fit in some rest for KD, Kyrie, Claxton, and Simmons. I would target the OKC game and the Pistons games at home as rest days.

I want us to give Miami a good beating, and we should have ample rest vs Boston.

OKC and Detroit should be the rest game targets.

We already beat the HEAT, I think we lose to Boston with KD out. Thunder, spurs and Suns we should be able to beat even without KD. Facing the Jazz in a back to back will be tough, that's a feisty team right there. Warriors will be tough now that Steph is back but we can still win that one . Should beat the Pistons. I say we go 6-4 which should be good without KD, we can't allow ourselves to get in a hole now.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
