Re: Official Team USA Soccer Thread
Now Reyna is disputing accounts that he gave low effort in training, leading to limited appearances in the WC.
He claims he was told ahead of time that his role would be limited in Qatar.
Berholter still claims that poor effort in training is what led to Reyna’s limited time in matches.
Could this become a situation in which Reyna isn’t interested in playing if Berholter remains in charge and Berholter isn’t going to use Reyna in a key role?

Re: Official Team USA Soccer Thread
I can't help but feel as if GB released his statement about Reyna to avoid criticism for not playing him.
Still, if there really was a vote and almost half of the team voted to send his ass home, Reyna was definitely in the wrong and needs to check himself...and it may be safe to assume that he did if he was brought onto the game vs the Netherlands?
furthermore, it seems to me more like something that should come out to the public years later rather than right after the tournament, straight from the coach's mouth.
Even Sampson waited mad long to reveal why he sent John Harkes home in '99. That man endured more criticism than any USMNT coach ever.

Re: Official Team USA Soccer Thread
reyna is one of our better players right? so presumably, if he's in top fitness, you'd want to play him a lot? is there some kind of weird ego thing/feud going on between the two?

Re: Official Team USA Soccer Thread
What a sht show. Gregg screwed up badly by throwing Reyna under the bus at this leadership conference, and the Reynas somehow managed to exponentially top him. I always had a ton of respect for Claudio but he and his wife look like complete @ssholes.

Re: Official Team USA Soccer Thread
OK, I didn't read the article in depth but he slapped her when they were 18 and they married and have been married for several decades?
Though Mrs. Reyna alleges it was much more.
Slaps are a thing now. Dana White is in trouble for slapping his wife back.
I remember old movies, was it Humphery Bogart or James Cagney who slapped a woman back after she'd slapped him.
Loud slap but nobody got hurt.
This is post #MeToo so any time a man raises a hand to a woman it's a big scandal?

Re: Official Team USA Soccer Thread
lol i've been involved in youth soccer here in the states all my life as I started coaching as soon as I became too old to play.
I've seen plenty of live long friendships end similarly due to youth soccer. So, all of this nonsense is the perfect advertisement for soccer in America.
While I never blamed their elimination vs the Netherlands on Gregg--and even think he deserves a lot of credit for getting them back to the WC and out of the group stage--it was certainly time to move on as soon as that netherlands game ended. So let's just do that and try to ensure this doesn't hang over young Gio's head for too long.

didn't realize that everyone in us soccer federation was so close. some new blood to shake things up probably wouldn't be a bad idea

Credit to the folks who have helped grow the game in the States, but it's time for more sophisticated leadership. Our most talented player shouldn't be benched in a major tournament because the manager, who has known him his entire life, thinks his parents did a bad job raising him and wants to correct their mistakes.
It's time for 5 refs.

Glad to see Gio scoring a couple big goals this week for Dortmund. The best way to move on from nonsense is to ball out
