Relative to the “Drummond vibe without the stupid,” Duren shows a better touch around the rim than Drummond did at the same age, and certainly more polished athleticism than Drummond. Drummond had great athleticism for a guy his height and size, but he was still a bulky guy, so kinda like PF athleticism in a center body. Duren to me has athleticism that’s more like a SF but 6’10”.

Re: Sam V and Spinella roast Casey and our young guys
I think Casey is pretty much what Weaver wanted through the rebuild. Developing and rehabbing players is what the team has been about for these years and not many experienced coaches would want this job with the losses that would be sure to pile up. Having Casey to calmly nurture this group until enough talent is there to attract a better game manager makes sense to me.
This may be the last year Casey can keep the group playing hard and developing before they tune him out and a losing mentality develops. Ideally he gets moved into more of a front office/consulting role when they make a transition.

Sam V and Spinella talking about last years class and Cade great show out today. Still bullish Cade of course. They do wonder if he is a number one option on a title team or more of a 2 or 3 obv time will tell.
They do wonder if Weaver is the right guy to build a team around Cade. Not as much that hes not a good GM they said he is a good. Moreso the kinda players he likes they dont know if its optimal for a Cade like talent. I think we find out more on this point this coming offseason.
Sam V says"I think these guys need to make a coaching change by the end of the year and gives these guys some new looks and a new scheme".

Along with a better touch Duren wants to murder the rim and dunk anything he can. His ability to just go straight back up after an offense board he has controlled is a huge Drummond difference. Not sure about how much Drummond redirected offense boards but Duren is also pretty great at tapping the ball out when he can’t corral it.

I will freely admit to not watching the video this time so apologies if I am missing context. However, I question the value of making a mid-season coaching change. If anything I would think that stability (or lack thereof) would play a big role in the development of young players. Ripping away their primary voice of instruction mid-season and forcing them to relearn a new scheme and terminology with no practice time etc seems less than ideal in this aspect.
The only time I would consider this is if it were obvious that the current coach was taking actions that were hurting the development of players in obvious ways. (I don't see that happening here). Otherwise I'd much prefer any move happen in the offseason to give folks time to adapt/adjust.
This is just another red flag showing that I probably shouldn't care too much about what these folks are saying.

casey is 100% going to be the scapegoat for weaver. it might not be this off season but definitely by next off season.
it's unfortunate that cade is out because we'd definitely be better with him but weaver has still provided casey with a roster that NO coach would be able to get 30 wins with. before the season started i predicted we'd get ~26 wins and that was due to severe lack of talent and experience. meanwhile casey is taking all of the flak for the lack of production even though he never stood a chance.

The goal wasn't to win 30+ games this season though. Not once Cade went down.whitehops wrote:casey is 100% going to be the scapegoat for weaver. it might not be this off season but definitely by next off season.

Duren
Stewart
Bey (maybe)
Ivey
Cade
Hayes
IF the Draft goes well and we land Wemby we surround that young talent with BB (already extended), Burks (team option) plus whatever we land with the cap space we have.
The goal is to build a team to win games over multiple seasons and contend for something meaningful.
In order to get there we have to suffer. This is really only Year 2 of the rebuild cause Weaver's first year was the tear down.
I'm surprised Casey is looked at the way he is considering a whole load of Raptors developed pretty well there while he was their head coach.
You'd assume that even if Casey wasn't directed involves in their development he most definitely was privy to whatever that organisation did to develop those guys and has brought that knowledge with him.
It's too soon to tell for us.
