Doncic, in order to take on the historic offensive usage of his team, has to take defensive plays off and offensive plays off just to have the stamina to drive into the paint like a point guard(since he's not an amazing athlete). It's the reason he takes so many stepback three and bad threes because he lacks the stamina to blowby athletic wing defenders. It's another reason his free throws are so screwy despite being a good shooter in Euroleague. It's also another reason his game-winners haven't been falling this season because teams know he will be tired and have the scouting report on his bailout low stamina three's at the end of games.

He needs to lower his usage and trust his teammates not just too shoot but make plays…that’s why Brunson just got richer

even if Jokic wasn't ahead regardless, the fact that Tatum plays with arguably a top 15 player this season - is def hurting his case
same would be true for Embiid had he played in more games and had the Sixers been healthier and with a top record

Harden is playing like a top 15-20 himself
If Maxey and Harden hadn't been out for a while and if Embiid had Jokic's durability - the 76ers would have the best record in the league rn is my guess

we can also add the Nets to that list, Kyrie is also in that tier this season but Durant's injury kinda derailed his campaign anyway

p.s, Doncic is still 2nd imo

Kyrie could get MVP hype, because Brooklyn have the perfect roster to win big without KD, a bunch of all-time great 3-point-shooters and the man whom assisted more 3-pointers than anyone from 2017-2021. Our record will be outstanding without KD, and Kyrie will get credit for that, even if he won't be the reason for it.

I think it's kinda of an empty statement "best offense" as measured by ppp
it's not a coincidence all the top is from the last few years and 1 and 3 occupied by current teams

scoring and efficiency inflation makes the "best offense" moniker really misleading

perhaps it should be measured by ppp compared to the league's average\median etc,

It's a joy watching this Jokic led offense that's for sure

This sounds like an ESPN analysts who earns millions just to say something "smart" on TV. But in reality he watched one or two games in entire season and then just repeats the same BS someone random said at the start.

I'll continue on this - no freakin way on Tatum unless he does something unprecedented. He's got too much help and a top 2-3 sidekick in the league. Tatum at 31/8/4 on 47% shooting isn't enough unfortunately. It sounds ridiculous under normal circumstances but there's so much extraterrestrial activity being done by stars in this league now.

This year is definitely the Joker and Luka race (so far at least)

Embiid has no chance unfortunately because if you look at the games he has missed the Sixers have looked the same if not better because Harden has stepped up his scoring and assists numbers in his absence and the Sixers have a 60 percent wining rate.

Poll request:

Embiid (has) / KD (will) miss more games than any MVP winner in almost 45 years, and we're at the halfway mark in the season.

Can we remove them from the poll?

Giannis is going to miss his 7th game tonight, he's trending that way as well.

While they're playing great, you'd need the other three favorites (Luka/Jokic/Tatum) to NOT be having spectacular seasons to override the sheer amount of games these players are missing.

Yep, he has missed 11 games. We're at the halfway point of the season, and he has already missed as many games as Iverson did in 2001, when he became the only MVP since the 70's to miss more than 10 games (11).

Might not be an issue in any other year, but there's historic candidates right now and that probably auto-disqualifies him.

the same can be said about the likes of Zion and Durant, at least Embiid is playing rn
the poll doesn't matter, there are only 3.5 viable candidates still standing anyway

and I agree that Embiid doesn't have a shot because of games missed, my point was that in an alternate universe where Embiid has only missed a couple games this season and the 76ers are 1st \2nd in the East - his argument would still be weaker because of how good Harden has been playing, top 15 easily (same goes for Tatum whose 1B just scored a very efficienct 41 pts in a big win)

To be fair, those 3 straight 0/0/0/0/0 stat lines weren’t particularly brag worthy.

I’m potentially considering Luka for MVP just for making the Mavs relevant despite playing with Reggie Bullock.

For now my top three: 1. Jokić, 2. Doncić, 3. Tatum. I had Williamson at 3rd in my previous post some time ago.
