That is a GREAT question. I originally applauded his game development, as whats wrong with a more well rounded player?

The problem is two-fold. I firmly believe his approach to weight-lifting has ruined his shot, by making it harder for him to raise, and release his shot. His flexibility is ruined, and he needs to shed some pounds. He is NOT a post playing PF. He is a 3-D SF, or least that's what he looked like his first year.

Secondly, he has worked his ass of to be a better ball-handler, and getting into the lane, but his apparent belief that he had to become Arnold Schwarzenegger combined with that, has turned him into an oversized meatball, with arms, thus him crashing into the lane awkwardly, and turning it over because his flexibility sucks.

Bey has basically self-sabotaged what would have been a guaranteed starting position, and a hefty contract, by pumping iron, and not focusing on what he was actually good at, and good for the team.

He has become close to useless, most of the time.

If your theory has merit, then the team is also at fault. If they tell him to/have him lay off the weights, he would.

It is an interesting question. To be a starter on THIS roster Bey would most certainly need to turn himself into Livers. Big brain play is to just start Livers.

With our guard rotation and Stewart/Bagley/Duren up front then Zeeb is right that he needs to be a 3-D SF.

I’ve heard the Lakers and Pistons have discussed a deal that would include both Bogdanović and Nerlens Noel. Since the Pistons are demanding draft assets in any deal for Bogdanović, it’s sort of a given that the Lakers would have to surrender a first-round pick to make a deal. Maybe they make a second deal to fortify the rotation further. Will they be willing to trade both picks that are currently trade-eligible? The sense around the league is they won’t. But we’ll see

There’s no way they’d give us both.

It’s hard for me to get behind a deal for a pick so far in the future.

Dream? Sure.

If it becomes a number 2 pick in a number of years that’s great.

Granted they built this championship team (in part) using draft assets they don’t have this time, but still.

I'm not opposed to exploring trades for John Collins. It's hard to know just why he's cratered like he has, but obviously, there has been a lot of smoke for just how bad Atlanta has been. That said, even if it's wrong place/wrong time argument, some people just never recover from that.

So i don't know. Would Collins thrive in a new system? Would his contract suddenly become an albatross? Will Pistons have a better opportunity to get a solid defensive four? Would they even have to include Bojan?

If I was Weaver, I'd be turning over a lot of stones right now, because if he goes somewhere else and simply reverts back to 21, 10 and 1.5 blocks, that man could be an integral part of a great team. And then again, he could be Josh Smith II.

^^^^Same. I get we have a small shot at Wemby and we probably wait till off-season but it would be nice to upgrade/solidify our frontcourt with Collins or Porzingis or yes Ayton.
Duren Stew and Bagley are our bigs. Can't go wrong being 4deep.

I don't think Collins is the worst idea. He only makes 5-6M more than Bojan per season (although is contracted for an extra year as a player option). I think his decline in production can at least be partly explained by his changing role/name constantly being in trade rumors, and maybe if he was playing for a team that showed him loyalty and made him motivated he could return to that 20/10 guy with decent 3PT shooting he was a couple of years ago. His arrival would push Stew to the bench though. I'd consider trading him straight up for Bojan and this year roll with:

Duren
Collins
Bey
Ivey
Hayes

With Stew, Livers, Diallo and Burks as key pieces off the bench (Burks may also be on the move by the deadline too).

I’m willing to deal Bey for a young player and a 1st, and I’d love for us to sell high on Burkes as well and try to nab a late first for him as well. If there’s a deal out there for Mgruder or Joseph that is similar to the Bagley/Bol deal I’m down. Really that would be my goals for the deadline. Hold B.B for a future deadline.

Sounds like BBs last days as a Piston are here.

https://theathletic.com/4090750/2023/01/16/nba-trade-deadline-what-im-hearing-about-the-pistons-part-2/

While Detroit has aspirations to be more competitive next season — and Bogdanović would surely help make that happen — the Pistons aren’t opposed to moving him, league sources say. However, they’re not anxiously trying to deal him, either, as they value not only his on-court play but the leadership he’s brought to the young team. Per league sources, the price tag to acquire Bogdanović appears to be, at the very minimum, an unprotected first-round pick. As the trade deadline inches closer, the sense is there is a decent chance Detroit’s front office will get offered the pick it is looking for, which would then prompt the team to seriously weigh the risk and reward of departing with a known quality player for an uncertain asset.

So we're down to just 17 more business days until the trade deadline, and pretty much everyone who will be eligible to trade is now eligible.

The only teams in the luxury tax at the moment are the Warriors, Clippers, Heat, Nuggets and Pelicans... and I'd guess other teams won't want to push into the luxury tax because the payout from the Warriors and Clippers is going to be huge this year. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Miami, Denver, or the Pelicans try to move out of the luxury tax.

What teams with championship aspirations will be buyers looking for that final piece, and will that piece be Bojan for anyone? Will any of the other lower tier teams sell off (like Orlando and Indy did in recent years) to join the tank?

Utah is being carried by LM and OKC being carried by SGA and neither looks like they'll be bad enough to join the tank unless one of those two gets shut down for the year. Indy led by Haliburton has also been too good to tank, even though they are on a 4 game skid they are still above .500 and the 8 seed.

I have a feeling Bojan will end up with Phoenix, Dallas, LA, or GS.

I don't sense that at all from the article. "The Pistons aren't opposed to moving him" "They're not anxiously trying to deal him" "a decent chance they'll get offered the pick they're looking for which would prompt them to weigh the risk/reward".
I don't know, that doesn't scream Bojan's days are numbered here. I'd say it's about 50/50 based on what we're hearing.

Maybe the reason Bojan, or someone else on the team for that matter hasn't been moved just yet, is because the Pistons are in France atm.

I know that sounds weird, but business decisions are delayed for weird reasons all the time.

I say this because I can't imagine Bojan being on the team for the whole season. He is very valuable to a contender, or to teams that need to get over that perceived hump. I imagine Weaver has a bevy of trade options/proposals, for a bunch of different Pistons he's going over right now.

I'm also keeping my eye on Golden State as they have the assets to get a deal done with the Pistons for Bojan, and a shooter of his caliber seems like a perfect fit for them.

Return to Detroit Pistons
