Also, I can't help but think we should try to be buyers at the deadline. We are so far under water that any improvements won't hurt our lottery odds too much. Plus, we should be looking to build around LaMelo. I'm thinking specifically about Gary Trent and how he is on the market. He is younger and less of a ball hog than Oubre while still being a good shooter and scorer. He would be a nice 2 guard for LaMelo to play off.

I think Toronto would rather pay Oubre 12-15 a year than give Trent 18-20 so there's a chance we can do Oubre and a second for him.

It would be a way for us to build for the future while not just trading our veterans for a second or two, something Mitch has always refused to do

Trent is someone I've thought of as well, although i was put off a bit when Raptors coach mentioned Trent needed to increase his defensive pressure again, made it sound like Trent had relaxed his defense to try to score more. we dont need more of that.

FWIW having two quality forwards for less than 30 million isn't bad. Jalen and PJ both have shown they are outstanding bench players who also can start when needed. Getting that level of versatility and skill is hard to do so we should try to keep them. No reason to trade one or the other just cause they overlap in one of the most important role player archetypes

unless PJ is one of the main culprits for ignoring the coach, wouldn't surprise me after Clifford called him out this previous game

Porzingis is a guy I would keep my eye on. If Wizards abandon ship and deal Beal, then I am not sure how commited to KP they are entering the final year of his PO. Ideally.. Beal is dealt around the deadline... Then we approach Washington during summer around a package of Hayward, Denver pick and maybe Kai for KP. Give him a 1 year trial.

Depending on how draft went...

Spot on estimate IMO. We tend to overvalue our players relative to the league.

I'd inquire about Chris Duarte, but definitely do some due diligence. Guy made 37% from 3 his rookie year on nearly 5 attempts a game but has been horrible this year. Not sure what's up with him

fun fact, he's only 1.5 years younger than Kelly Oubre

not sure what's up with Duarte either, but that kind of drop off in your age 25 season is concerning. Since he's been drafted, the Pacers have completely flooded their roster with guards (Hali/Mathurin/Nembhardt all pretty good players) but that shouldn't affect his shooting to such a ridiculous degree.

He turns 24 soon. His situation in Detroit isn't good this year, but hes arguably having the worst year of his career.

At least the Heat own their own first round pick this year. That's a start.
