Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
Hasn’t practiced all week apparently.
Today may be the last day for a full practice.
If he doesn’t play, it has to be the contract situation?
Would the Ravens not even franchise him next season if he doesn’t play WC weekend?
Supposedly Ravens had been expecting him to play the past couple of weeks.
If he doesn’t play because he’s legitimately not healthy, then he may push far more for a multi year deal before next season.

Re: Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
Hmm, Ravens gave Roquan Smith the biggest contract for a LB?
That won't help negotiations with Lamar.

I'd love to see Lamar on the Jets. Just gonna throw that out there.

Re: Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
I thought the contract was a factor in this because we hadn't heard anything from Lamar and even Harbaugh didn't seem to know what was going on, but in the last couple of days it seems like there have been leaks to the media that this is just him still being injured.

I think the Lions would be the most fun, I want more good QBs to move over to the NFC.

Re: Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
Well he didn't practice today. Harbaugh didn't simply say he was injured, which led reporters to speculate that Lamar is partly not playing because of his contract status.
Raven's will franchise tag him. They can't afford to let him walk so they need assets back for him.
So any team who wants him would have to pay, probably a lot.

I don't see Lamar coming back to the Ravens. They will franchise tag him and trade him. I'm sure the Jets would sell their soul for him.

Running QB, he will slowly deteriate in worth from here forward. Whomever gives him his next big contract will be buying high at the worst possible time.

Re: Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
He wasn't even at the game.
Suppose to be the face of the franchise.
Ravens have to think if Lamar had played, they beat the Bengals comfortably and have a real shot at Buffalo, who's not defending the run too well.

Agreed. This isn't the QB id want to invest my picks/money in. I don't understand why he's unanimously considered a top 7-8qb. His legs win games during the regular season, but I can't see him ever having postseason success.
The guy has never thrown for even 3200 yards in a single season. They have drafted a ton of WR's and he's never made them successful. He's blessed to have been drafted by a Harbough coached Ravens.
I hope the Jets/Lions don't throw money at him. Those teams have weapons all across the field, should go for a better pocket passer.

I think he is really injured but this is just as good a reason not to pay him. I don't think his style will hold up forever and he's not a top 5 QB when he plays anyway.

Re: Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
He would have been dumb to play yesterday. If he gets a career ending injury (I know, very unlikely) he’s literally throwing away $50m minimum.
I think not having an agent backfired on him. His deal should have been wrapped beginning of the season. Unfortunately the Browns are a disaster organization and did that Watson deal…

Why?
The defense is good enough to win with a QB like Jimmy. They can sign him & not give up any picks. Seems like the logical move.
Due to his playing style Lamar will always be an injury liability. If I was one of these teams, I would pass.

I think because its NY and they already have come out saying theyre willing to spend big on a QB.
And to be clear, this isnt me saying what I would do. Because I agree with you 100%, I would pass on Lamar as well and I dont blame Baltimore for not just giving him a massive deal. I think its twofold when it comes to the issues with giving big deals out to QBs like Lamar.
1. Like you said his playing style will always be an injury liability.
2. It usually takes a couple years but teams defenses usually catch up to a run first QB and you tend to really see this come playoff time.
But ya I think Jets being NY and feeling like they have a win now level defense are going to want to make the big splash move. I also believe I saw betting odds have Jets as the favorite to get Lamar if he isnt going to be a Raven next year.

Re: Is Lamar purposely not going to play?
Ravens can trade and get all kinds of assets back.
But that would require them to throw away a season or two to get a new QB in place, producing.
I don't know their cap situation but if they have a lot of other big contracts, they can't waste seasons to get and develop a new QB.
NFL teams get stupid amounts of TV money. Probably profitable alone from TV rights. Then if they do well in selling tickets, PSLs and luxury boxes, they're just missing big money.
How much are they quibbling over anyways? If Ravens were wiling to offer only $150 million and Lama wanted like $250 million guaranteed, that's a big gulf.
However, it's not impossible for the Ravens. Even if they never win the SB during that contract and at the end, it hampers the team, the cap will be so much higher 5 years from now that they will be okay.
They gave Roquan Smith a $100 million, though I think only like $60 million guaranteed. If they have some other big contracts in the $100 million range, they can't afford to be without a top 15 QB, otherwise they're paying high salaries without a chance to win.

The Lions have no plans to sign or trade for a new starting QB. They've stated that repeatedly. The only option they haven't crossed off is drafting a QB if a guy that they really really like falls to them. They already have a top offense in place and have far too many needs on defense for it to make sense to give up the necessary assets/cap space.

I automatically question the intelligence of any player negotiating an NFL contract without the help of an agent. It's akin to not hiring a lawyer to represent you in a trial. I don't care what you think you know, you still don't have the relationships and networking in place that lead to more successful outcomes.
Even if he didn't get the deal signed before the season, the damaging messaging coming out the last few weeks about Lamar would have never happened.
