I mean, if SGA keeps progressing, Giddey's defense isn't a problem, the Chet pick lands and they're able to spend their draft capital at the right time for win-now veterans.

They definitely have the pieces, young potential and draft capital. But so much can go wrong as well.

Well I wouldn't say "so much" vs one particular thing -- health, in particular Chet Holgrem.

That's the biggest risk right now. Others include SGA losing patience, Giddey being an offense force but a net neutral because of poor defense, their draft capital not having as much real world vs presumed value.

Hell, this team had a Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka core and didn't win a title. There is a lot that can go wrong in the next 2-5 years.

They went to the finals as a very young team, if management wasn't so cheap they probably go back to the finals and who knows at that point. Currently the youngest team in the league and in a better spot than the Raptors, their future is bright.

Exactly but they didn't. Just so hard to win a title, that's why it's a bold ass prediction.

If the point you're raising is the OKC's ownership be willing to spend to retain all that talent, then it's a fair one.

But OKC didn't experience ANY of prime Harden, KD or Westbrook yet STILL made the Finals and did so, so young. I have absolutely ZERO doubt they would've made it back to the Finals and imo likely won at least one, if not more ring(s). So it wouldn't be that the process didn't work vs the ownership self-sabotaging.

The point I'm making is there is already a LOT that can happen. Is OKC in a great spot? Sure. It's a bold prediction to say in two years (couple) that they will win a title. A lot has to go right with very very little, almost next to nothing, going wrong.

I'm with Duffman. So many things can happen in that time. If you would have asked me in once the Clips got Klaw/PG if they would win a championship within 2 years, I'd say yes. The Clips literally have NOTHING to show for their time with KL+PG. So many variables can happen and winning a championship is a very rare occurrence for most franchises.

Boston although previously making it to the finals may not win a Championship with their current core. Same goes for Denver, Memphis, Dallas and every other team on the "up".

A lot has to go right.

Sorry I meant to say within the next couple years they'll be back as a playoff team and will win a championship within the next 5 years.

So...do teams just not take time outs when they have final possession, or....?

It's past Jan 15th but we're squandering our draft position just to confirm mediocrity.

Had a feeling this one would be a win with the Knicks playing yesterday. On to the next one.

It's going to be sad if Giannis doesn't play and we pull off a fake win. Fans deserve better

I know a lot of people feel like this season is feeling like TB 2.0 but to me the lack of decisiveness in what direction we're (tanking vs trying to win when it should so clearly be option A) is costing us our draft position as it did in the Anthony Davis draft where we never gave ourselves a shot to even draft him & because we allowed the team/coaches to just continue fighting for pointless wins took us from a draft slot where we could've drafted Lillard but ended up in a losing coin toss for the likes of journeyman Terrence Ross.

These kind of directionless Ws can REALLY cost the franchise if they don't act ASAP. If they really do stick it out right until the deadline they may completely waste the best opportunity they may have in YEARS. Praying a trade surprises us in the next week or they can really f this up.

When did we actually sit starters to lose on purpose in Tampa? It was after the trade deadline. We are not there yet

Update:

16 games until trade deadline including last night vs Charlotte. I guessed our record. I will update after each game.

(17-23)

Jan 10 - Charlotte - W (18-23)
Jan 12 - Charlotte - W (19-23)
Jan 14 - Atlanta - W .... Loss (19-24)
Jan 16 - @ NY - L .... Win (20-24)

Jan 17 - @ Milwaukee - L
Jan 19 - @ Minnesota - L
Jan 21 - Boston - L
Jan 22 - NY - W
Jan 25 - @ Sacramento - L
Jan 27 - @ G.S. - L
Jan 28 - @ Portland - L
Jan 30 - @ Phoenix - L
Feb 1 - @ Utah - W
Feb 3 - @ Houston - W
Feb 5 - @ Memphis - L
Feb 8 - San Antonio - W

Feb 9 = Trade Deadline.

7-9 record as per above (24-32). But lets say we get 2 extra wins and go 9-7 instead, we would be (26-30).

To put things in perspective on Feb 9 of last year (deadline was Feb 10), our record was 30-23.
