update. on pace for 24-32 still

new threads coming up every day from rumours, podcasts , etc - thought it'd be easier in all in one rather than 15 different threads of the same thing. Not a tank or double down thread - just mainly for reports/rumours on what's going on with us and what the league is saying

16 games until trade deadline including last night vs Charlotte. I guessed our record. I will update after each game.

(17-23)

Jan 10 - Charlotte - W (18-23)
Jan 12 - Charlotte - W (19-23)
Jan 14 - Atlanta - W .... Loss (19-24)
Jan 16 - @ NY - L .... Win (20-24)
Jan 17 - @ Milwaukee - L (20-25)

Jan 19 - @ Minnesota - L
Jan 21 - Boston - L
Jan 22 - NY - W
Jan 25 - @ Sacramento - L
Jan 27 - @ G.S. - L
Jan 28 - @ Portland - L
Jan 30 - @ Phoenix - L
Feb 1 - @ Utah - W
Feb 3 - @ Houston - W
Feb 5 - @ Memphis - L
Feb 8 - San Antonio - W

Feb 9 = Trade Deadline.

7-9 record as per above (24-32). But lets say we get 2 extra wins and go 9-7 instead, we would be (26-30).

To put things in perspective on Feb 9 of last year (deadline was Feb 10), our record was 30-23.

How would trading the Lakers 2023 swap even work for the Pelicans in a trade is that even possible?

its legal for pelicans to trade the swap. you acquire the pelicans pick along with the swap rights.

Oh okay so basically they wouldn't have a first at all then
Makes sense

yep, the pelicans can trade the pick

the lakers cannot, because pelicans have the option of taking 2024 pick or defer to 2025.

so that means for the lakers the stepian rule, 2023 pick is blocked, so is 2024/25, and stepian rule block on 2026. thats why you hear about the 2027 and 29 being traded.

but in reality the lakers are only -1 in picks (either 24 or 25), they have picks in all other years, so its not all doom and gloom for them as you would first think.

pelicans would never trade their swap at the deadline. Could you imagine if Lakers landed 1-2 pick

It will happen on draft day if they choose to

Toronto Out: FVV
Toronto In: Poeltl, McDermott, Nowell

Minny Out: Nowell, D. Russell
Minny In: FVV

Spurs Out: Poeltl, McDermott
Spurs In: D. Russell

Toronto gets rim protector Poeltl, taking a shot Nowell becoming a bench scorer. McDermott is still capable shooter albeit slightly rich. Minny swaps headcase D.Russell for FVV for improved defense and better leadership. Spurs basically dumping McDermott to get off his 2 year contract for 0.5 year rental for D. Russell. Not sure if Minny would need to send pick or picks to Spurs

Add a 1st or 2nd picks/fillers to balance it out but this would be the framework

Adding a C who can't shoot just makes PS and Barnes life harder in the paint. We already have CK to do that next year. Gotta add a C who can shoot a 3 once in awhile.

If I'm trading a core piece I want picks and someone coming back that can create their own shot (not named Lavert).

Please be proactive during the deadline and off season.

I’m so tired of this FO being cowards. There’s no salvaging this core, sell high when you can.

I find it odd that a fan, having a favourite player already on the team for which they cheer, to want him to blossom somewhere else.

You cant take a joke? You dont know Im like OG's biggest fan?

2nd biggest, at best.

It’s funny folks here think we don’t leak. We’re clearly leaking to garner trade interest.

To be fair, with one more strong starter, the Pels have the talent to go to the finals out West. OG would fit them so well because they are dying for more perimeter shooting. The defense between Herb and OG might be the best in the league on the wings too. It might be worth that Lakers pick.

To me Suns and Magic as potential suitors in free agency is clearly a message to the Magic that they need to trade for Fred now and can't just sign him in free agency.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I mentioned before. OG is a great fit especially in playoffs for them when JV gets run off the floor. HE can guard multiple and at the highest of levels. And Zion always seems to be injured so its a good move for them.

But they arent doing that at the deadline unless the Lakers climb up the standings.

I don't see Orlando being a fit for Fred. They already have Fultz, Suggs and Anthony. If they end up with pick #2 then they will also have Scoot. If Orlando wants Fred now...there is the Jonathan Isaac contract and the fact that he hasn't played in 2+ years but could still have potential if he is healthy for a change. Bol Bol would be nice as well. My guess is that Orlando would deal Fultz and Isaac...which are basically redundant parts of their roster since they have so many guards and forwards.

Phoenix would want Fred to replace CP when he inevitably gets injured or retires but at what price? Could you do Fred and Boucher for Ayton straight up?

I think Orlando is absolutely a fit for Fred in free agency as a replacement for those players but the possibility of Scoot at 2 is likely to make them wait until free agency unless the owner is unreasonably impatient. Suns are probably the most likely trade destination.

You mean...do nothing? I'm already prepared for that. Many years of trade deadline letdowns have prepared me for this outcome.

That would most certain result in having the 13th pick in the draft and nothing else to show for it.
