Would you give up a 1st + Payton Pritchard + Danilo Gallinari?
I imagine something like that might work for both sides.
Jacob is an UFA after the season but the Celtics would be acquiring his Bird rights in the deal. Not sure they'd be able to just sign him in the offseason, even though some team out there could, so that's part of the value I'd think for a team like the Celtics. Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't know the C's cap situation well, but most contenders like them don't really have the cap flexibility to just add good players in free agency.

I mean the Bulls gave up two firsts for Vucevic...so I guess anything is possible. I'd rather have Poeltl than Vuc, but I am not paying a whole lot for the position...and he's a FA...

Spurs could probably do a S&T in off season if they don't move him, so they might hold out.

Why not just make the asking price 4 FRPs?

He anchored an average-ish defense the last 3 seasons. This year the Spurs are forcing him to play with a bunch of kids. :dontknow:

The real problem is he's a terrible FT shooter so if you're trading for him as a playoff hopeful you can't even play him at the end of games.

His only weakness really is shooting, he'd be fantastic in any of the contenders.

I would do that. Not sure Spurs would. Seems like they want to keep him unless they're blown away by an offer and the pick we send would be a very late first.

Also it's not actually an option. Gallo was waived by the Spurs and I don't think the Celtics can't trade him back there this season.

He’s worth a late first round pick. Although I’d like to see him flourish elsewhere. It’d be good for his development.

I don’t think that is realistic. A first round and expiring is most likely going to be done

Although this season he's very close to his career high. It's still not great but actually getting close to something starting with .600 which would be a pro career first.

Poetl is a decent starting center but will be an UFA at the end of the season. Does Gregg Popovich think this is Rudy Gobert?

 Apparently so. Spurs asking price is a felony. Poeltl struggles at the line meanwhile a lot of his opponents can stretch the floor and hit the three. The Irony

Good for his development? He's played for two of the best teams when it comes to developing players.

This has been their asking price since last deadline and its not news. And has nothing to do with Gobert's trade.

Definitely not a stiff, but I wouldn't call him a modern, switchable center. The kind of mobile centers that contenders need in the playoffs when teams go small-ball & 5-out. He also can't finish above the rim.

And his very limited shooting range is a big problem, because it hurts the spacing. You have to surround him with 4 good shooters to give the other guys lanes to drive. Not every team has 4 shooters. Raptors certainly don't, and they're the team most often mentioned in trade rumors.

LOL @ Raptors seeking "multiple unprotected 1sts" for Anunoby like he's a superstar player.

i don't think you get it. he's an integral part of the team and a DPOY candidate. for the Raptors to want to trade OG, who's also on a good contract means you have to pry him away with more than 1 mediocre draft pick and a mediocre talented player etc.

I mean if playoff teams are wanting OG, whats a few unprotected draft picks?

i mean why wouldn't the Spurs try to trade him for 2 FRPs. if they are protected sure why not. a playoff team losing two of them wouldn't hurt them in all likelihood and that there is always someone that gullible. i mean look at the Wolves.

G R E Y wrote:This isn't news. Our position is we want to keep Jakob and know his value to us. We have his Bird Rights and he really likes it here plus we have a ton of cap space.

We have a strong negotiation position. So unless a team offers something that moves us from our preference we're happy to keep him.

We got a first swap for a second for Thad Young who almost never played for us.

We got a first and swap and two very good for our purposes rotational players for Derrick White.

This has nothing to do with Gobert and more to do with what it would take for us to budge. This two 1sts stance has remained consistent since at least the beginning of the season if not summer. Either way, it's not new. Teams know exactly what it would take to pry him away. Otherwise, we love Jakob and would rather keep him.

We have other tradeable pieces, too, so there's other ways of acquiring more draft capital. No pressure to do anything with Jakob unless the asking price is met.

I am pretty sure that Poeltl has stated that he wants to play for a contender, so there is a 0% chance he resigns with the Spurs. If they want to lose him for nothing because of an outrageous asking price that is the Spurs problem then.

It’s good to dream big. Who on earth is paying that for a solid backup C?
