Cuz all the reports point to that + I dont think we will pay him his ask of $25M/yr , it will be tough to work out with OG and Siakam extensions coming up

Fred is a free agent sooner, he's the bigger issue IMO because it's clear he wants to get paid at least $30M/year given he already turned down close to that on an extension.

In all honesty, I'd probably rather pay Gary $25M/year than Fred north of $30M/year. At least Gary will be in his prime for the entirety of a 4 year deal.

I just figured out a way to prove the NBA is corrupt. (I assume it is, and was confident that the Raps would move into the top four in the 2021 draft lottery as payback for the Tampa Tank).

If we gift Pascal, Fred and Birch to the Lakers for Westbrook, P-Bev and the two unprotected picks, Silver will guarantee Masai gets the #1 pick this year. I believe that's the same deal they worked out with the league on the CP trade in 2011. Pels miraculously "won" the lottery in 2012, and selected AD (who they sent to the Lakers in 2019, after also miraculously winning the lottery that spring, allowing them to draft Zion).

I'm fine with it. Lebron deserves a last hurrah in the playoffs. Raps get Wemby and a S-ton of cap space this summer.

Our boy Dougie doing work
Ranking the assets:
The Raptors have a lot of pieces attractive to other teams. Here they are, ranked after conversations with multiple league sources. It does not mean any of them will be dealt, just who might be wanted and why.

O.G. Anunoby: A good contract with at least a year to run, a tremendous defender and good three-point shooter. It would take at least two promising players on team-friendly deals and a pick to pry him away.
Fred VanVleet: The cost of re-signing him will be substantial for any team acquiring him but if that hurdle is cleared, a proven winner and a great leader will fetch at least the Anunoby price if not more.
Pascal Siakam: You’re talking about a two-time all-NBA guy, an all-star, a 25-points a night player who might be in line for a supermax contract in the summer. He’d be three-for-one plus picks.
Gary Trent Jr.: He’s a flat-out scorer and they aren’t readily available. The Raptors would need to ask for a player and multiple picks in return.
The best thing the Raptors have going for them — and they know it privately — is that they are in the drivers’ seat.

They don’t have to make a deal, but if they want to do one, they can maybe extract a significant price.

What's the three-for-one trade in Siakam part? Like meaning 3 players for Siakam + picks?

I'd trade Trent for Max Christie and an unprotected pick swap. He's a 6'6 18 year old, raw but he's got upside as a Danny Green kind of 3+D guard.

I think he's right about OG and Siakam.

As for Trent, I think he could be worth something decent. I have his value as a pick, young player and non-expiring salary.

Same for FVV.

I'm telling you from experience bro - don't waste your time with this guy.

Although I will say - that's a pretty horrible deal.

....because i ignored the part where you assume the commissioner of the leauge will conspire with the raptors to get them the number one pick in exchange for this "gift" of what would be a historically bad trade?

nah I read just fine. I comprehend even better

I guess that's what Doug means by three-for-one. In any case Doug is on glue thinking that Fred has the same value as OG if not more, and that Gary can get multiple picks back as an expiring.

Same. Neither of these guys is going to move this team forward in a significant way, so ponying up for the big raises needed to keep them seems ... illogical. Time to get the best deal possible for each, and retool with new guards.

This is not a new idea, but New Orleans may be persuaded to trade for Fred to cement their run at a championship. Getting Daniels as a replacement, Graham as filler, and possibly a pick (for taking on Graham/the Fred rental) seems a reasonable scenario.

As to Gary, I'm not sure at this point who would be a good fit, but I'm sure things will become clearer as we near the deadline.

Either way, what's patently obvious is continuing this discussion with you is pointless. Thank you for letting me know.

lets trade everyone for mid to late picks because theyre negative value, but not negative value, but trade them now cause they might be negative value in the future.
