Detroit - New York - Portland
Detroit trades:
Bogdanovic
Noel
Detroit receives:
Dallas 1st (11-30)
Detroit 1st returned
Rose (team option for 2023-24)
Cam Reddish
Keon Johnson
The Pistons get their pick back which gives them more flexibility going forward. They also get the Mavs pick and two youngsters worth kicking the tires on.
New York trades:
Dallas 1st (11-30)
Detroit 1st returned
Obi Toppin
Rose
Cam Reddish
New York receives:
Bogdanovic
Josh Hart
The Knicks getting a much needed massive upgrade their depth adding two guys who can play a big role in expanding their core from 6 to 8 guys. Bogdanovic is having a career year while Josh Hart is the consummate 3 and D Thibs player who gives 100% every posession on both ends.
Portland trades:
Josh Hart
Keon Johnson
Portland receives:
Nerlens Noel
Obi Toppin
Portland gets a much needed size increase and more defensively versatility. With GP2 finally playing and Sharpe exceeding expectations this clears up the back-court jam. Noel gives the Blazers a potentially different look at center which is much need in certain match-ups. Toppin gets a new chance at finding his spot in the league.

I think it depends on the quality of the firsts.
Perhaps he’s not worth THESE two firsts. I’d easily value him at a couple of picks below 20 though.

Hart
2023-24 Contract details by year 28 $12,960,000
Contract Notes:
2022-23: non-guaranteed, fully guaranteed on 6/25/22
2023-24: Player Option/non-guaranteed, fully guaranteed on 6/25/23 (option deadline 6/25/23)
Since Hart could become a Free Agent, I have the Knicks refusing to do this trade.

Objectively, that's what he's worth, but Weaver is asking for the sun and the moon. It doesn't mean he gets it, but it could mean Bogs doesn't get moved.

And if that is reflective of what front offices around the league value him at I think he stays a Piston. I don’t think they’re posturing when they say they don’t feel they need to move him without getting good value back. They extended him. This isn’t a typical trade deadline dump.
I personally would trade him to get our pick back. The Dallas pick is gravy.

I would rather keep Bojan then get pieces that are 99% likely to be irrelevant.

I can understand NYK not wanting this deal, but from POR I wouldn’t add anything more to entice (Little, maybe).

Re: Detroit - New York - Portland
If you saw Obi close out the season you’d wonder why the Knicks don’t use him more than just sticking him in the corner for 15 MPG. He can get a lot of buckets very quickly.
His last 11 games (started 10 of them)
29.7 MPG
19.1 PPG 5.5 RPG 2.4 APG
58.4 on 12.5 FGA
44.1 on 5.4 3PA
80.0 on 2.7 FTA
I think and a lot of Knicks fan think if given the opportunity he can do similar things in a different place. Randle having a big year all but sealed his fate even though we are absolutely desperate for bench help

Re: Detroit - New York - Portland
Easy yes from the Pistons. And it isn’t Bogdonovich being worth 2 FRPs - Noel, now healthy, is a great defensive big for a playoff team to add. So combined, I think 2 FRPs is right. Mavs pick is going to be high 20s. The NY pick going back to the Pistons is so protected that it won’t convey for years, and if it does, it’s top 18 protected, so another pick in the 20s. So this seems fair - it’s not like these are two lottery picks.

How is Toppin as a defender?

Re: Detroit - New York - Portland
I'd do this from the Pistons end. For those thinking it's too much, both first rounders won't even be close to the lottery (the Pistons pick is heavily protected for several years). Cam Reddish is due for a new contract and is bordering bust territory and it's early but Keon Johnson is flirting with the bust label too.
I think for the Pistons the big coup is getting control of our future first rounders back which might be useful if at some stage we consolidate and decide to trade for a big name.

Hard pass from NYK. Toppin and two protected picks is way too high a price to bolster our bench when we still don't have a #1 option.

Still has plenty of room for improvement, but he's already a lot better than I ever though he'd be.

Well Dallas 1st is likely a pick in the early 20s or even late teens--nothing about that is 99% irrelevant.

Thibs had no problem giving obi 20mpg or more when Toppin was playing well enough to warrant them. He just cooled off and got hurt

Yea....this is an easy no for the Knicks. They don't get anywhere near the value they'd need back to justify this deal.
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential
and still be treated as if you were reasonable.
