It's really not that crazy he didn't get PT over Tony and Manu two HOF, All-Star, Multi time Champions. Its a shame he doesn't talk about how cool it would be to be drafted to backup those guys with the hope to someday fill their spot.

A lot of people in this thread are reaching hard imo. He expressed disappointment in Tony not fully taking on that mentorship role for a young guy like him and that is a valid opinion for a 20yo first round rookie.
It's not a knock on Tony as some people just aren't built that way but he is still allowed to have the opinion without everybody in this thread clowning on him.
Tony would have been coming off the bench either way, but after talking with Pop he left for Charlotte as he'd have more minutes.
Tony mentored him while he was with us. As FA, he had earned the right to do what he wanted. We still had Patty who had plenty of experience. There was no lack of mentorship.
There clearly was as evidenced by Murray having issue with Parker not fully embracing him coming up. There is a difference between learning from role player like Mills vs a HOF PG in Tony.
I have no issues with Tony leaving SA as a free agent as he also stated playing for MJ and with Borrego & Batum as key factors to going to Charlotte as well. I was really just countering the other guy in jest. Also pointing out that in retrospect that it was a pretty bad decision with how that Charlotte season wrapped up and the fact that DJ tore his ACL in the off-season anyway.
He was surrounded by HOF players, a HOF coach, Patty who is beloved as the ultimate team mate, and fun fact, when DJ was out the year for his injury, the coaching staff invited him to sit in on coach meetings game planning, studying the playbook, etc. He literally had access to it all but because a UFA chose to go where he'd get more PT even if it was also coming off the bench boo **** hoo that's what is focused on.
DJ has always had this me vs. the world and is now telling a different story for whatever reason. When Spurs drafted him it was oh they saved my life, Pop is like a father to me, and they saved me with their support during a down year recovering from injury.
Now it's oh Pop played mind games by bringing in some PG insurance to test me, Pop liked Derrick better because he's a yes man, and when DJ got traded he said the way our system is set up we won't compete for another 15 years.
Tony is competitive. Did DJ consider it from TP's POV? What did DJ do to earn the spot, really? It was about making a difficult decision for the long-term good of the team and make room for DJ to grow into a role he frankly hadn't yet proven.
Meanwhile when DJ was benched in favour of Derrick for EIGHT games upon struggling after return from injury, he had a social media passive aggressive hissy fit, unfollowing the team and deleting all photos of him and Pop.
So, career altering decision for a HOF to come off the bench for the first time and was UFA vs. EIGHT games coming off the bench and handling it about as immaturely as a player could.
DJ felt that was HIS position regardless of how badly he was playing and didn't like that Derrick played better with the starters, having been thrown into the position they year prior due to DJ's injury.
But Tony was just supposed to cater to DJ. You see the double standard? He had an abundance of mentorship available. The **** cheek.

Between Kawhi, Primo and Murray, the Spurs have been drafting some crazy people. Maybe it's time for PATFO to leave and get another management to handle this generation of players.

Tony Parker openly questioning Kawhi’s injury is when i soured on him a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t really care for a lot of the newer players that were clearly taking over as the big 3 began to age out.

Any over the hill veteran, which Tony was, that pouts because the younger guy is stealing his minutes needs a reality check. Not sure why you are taking the stance that supports washed players that need to be benched.
Its ironic, because Tony played with a dude that came off the bench most his career that had no business coming off the bench. Take a seat and know when its your time.

Now do the list of all the guys we got right. And that includes #2 and Murray at least on the court, the latter about whom your FO clearly agrees. I wouldn't trade PATFO for any FO in the league. ATL has its own issues FO/coach/player issues, so perhaps best to keep comments on DJ's interview.

Re: Dejounte Murray on Tony Parker not being a good mentor to him
What's annoying is that Tony was actually still better than Murray when he was benched. His per-36 numbers where 17/7/3 his last two years in the league. I think you can argue that it would've been better for the team had he stayed on as the starter their first year with DeRozan. But Murray really couldn't take it. It's known among Spurs fans that I was never DJM's biggest supporter. I'm more sad that Derrick White isn't on the team than DeJounte.
Still, the interview shouldn't be taken so seriously. Jackson is very vocal against the Spurs for basically never seeing him as part of their core. I think he resented not being embraced as much as he wanted to, when he wasn't even the best of "the rest". He never seemed to take ownership of his issues that caused him to lose favor with multiple front offices. He also seems to be avoiding what happened to him in 2013 that led to him spiraling and getting cut. That was horrible, and I hope he and his baby's mother recovered from it, but his head wasn't in the game. The Spurs likely would have appreciated him engaged on the team as a secondary LBJ defender. But he got cut because of his own actions and mishandled grief.
The whole interview shows not necessarily leading questions but that Jack wanted to talk about certain things more than others, and I think Murray fed on that energy. Like most of us with former places of employment, DJM likely has a lot of good and critical things to say. He spent six years of his life as part of the team. He's also not a very diplomatic person, and I haven't ever gotten the impression he's a good locker-room guy. It's a huge red flag in that regard that he wasn't part of the HEB commercials, though I still attribute that somewhat to DeJounte's own tragedy that year. All in all, Murray's still a work in progress. I'm curious to see how he and Spurs fans are going to handle his return to SA later this year. I see no reason to hate or praise him. The Spurs aren't perfect, but I don't think Murray thinks less of them than he does of his current situation.

The kids mom was in prison, his dad was in and out of jail, he went to juve himself surrounded by gang violence. It's easy to say what he should think and do, but he had a **** childhood and had to fight for everything, he brought that attitude to the league for better or worse. You're expecting a 19 year old to be a polished kid with that kinda upbringing?
Say what you want about him, but he had a **** childhood. Its a fight or die mentality.

Top5 / top 10 picks picks get mentored. End of the first round dime a dozen prospects don’t get mentors, they get to prove they even belong on the roster.

Words can't express how much that short clip made me miss Tim Duncan.

One thing I got out of the interview is Jax still has a strong hatred of Tony Parker which is funny.

Tony Parker is a loser
Kids played football, drove cars, went to school, celebrated life; while soldiers, heroes, their brothers struggled to find their way home from war; and young boys watched and grew wiser in their dreams.
