I'm floored, but it is obviously not working out as management expected. At least it is the perfect draft if you have to blow it up for picks.

I'm definitely surprised, but maybe not as surprised as others. While injuries didn't help, we still look bad even when mostly healthy. Lots of blame to go around, but may be a blessing in disguise if we luck out in the draft again.

Call me a a conspiracy theorist but the Raptors FO might have purposely handicapped the roster in hoping we don’t do well so they can get a high draft pick for this upcoming strong draft. I believe Masai even mentioned that it was a “rebuilding” season and that he even said we weren’t ready to compete even before the season started. Nurse also said a few weeks ago that the FO and him were on the same page on “what we need” for the upcoming trade deadline and that they were “on the same page” you can interpret that as Nurse and the FO are on board tanking this season in order top end talent is the upcoming draft. I can see Masai making this a throw away evaluation season and if true changes to the “core” need to happen, it would happen in next year’s deadline.

If this is the route, I just hope they don’t believe FVV should be part of their vision beyond this year but I truly believe they still regard FVV highly which is disappointing IMO.

Its a tought spot right now for sure. We are taking it on the chin thus far.

I think they knew they werent contenders but probably still a first round team but they also knew there was a chance the team takes a step back since theres so much parity in the league right now. 20-27 wasnt their ideal situation but i am sure it was a possibility for them. Masai always said he has to think long term with this group (said this at year end presser).

I do think they will continue the 6’9 vision and double down on it and move out fred and trent and clean up the bench next season. My gut tells me siakam og barnes precious koloko all staying.

Siakam
Barnes
Top 10 pick
Precious
OG
Koloko

Hopefully we get some good assets for fred and trent and keep building

The front office hasn't handicapped us with any bad contracts. Nor have we given up any of our future picks minus one second-rounder. We are still in good position, on the books at least.

Handicap with not acquiring shooting talent to boaster the bench but instead selling us with a 6’9 vision. It’s another disguised Tampa Tank imo.

They got a 6"9 shooter

They were possibly thinking if it doesn't work, so be it but if it does, raps make another playoff appearance

Who? Otto Porter? They probably knew about the injury gamble and was playing the long game along for next season.

I don't think the front office made the team purposefully bad but they also haven't traded for or signed win-now vets.

So be it ? U serious ? And when it works, it's another "successful" year with a playoff appearance for the clueless hockey influenced canadian to sell it as a great achievement ?

Masai looks like a business men out there with corporates all over his back that want to milk the cow.
Like he did year after year with DeMar until he got lucky and kawhi landed on his lap after every other team bulked and did not want to pay a huge price bc of the unknown status of 'whi.
It was also one of Bobby Webster's first moves.

This team has no brand, culture nor direction since 3 years.

I don’t see Masai bailing this team out this year since we are on our way to a high pick. He’s either evaluating and waiting for next year to make major changes and/or making minor changes for draft picks and unknown young assets. I see Masai leaning towards keeping FVV because of his “Championship DNA” since Masai is the type who values “high character”.

I don't buy that they sabotaged the roster. They are just cheap and won't go into the tax to actually build a proper team. I also think the team building philosophy is wrong and the coach has lost it, but I think the roster problems are just indicative of the historical pattern. This team won't go into the tax normally and definitely won't do it during a recession. Even if Masai is on the Board he only is one voice, and I don't think he would make a convincing argument to go into the tax because they likely can't even promise to get out of the play-in.

Even if they fire Nurse or come to an agreement, they will just have Adrian Griffin takeover to save money.

I see a 3 year extension incoming no matter how he plays for the rest of the season

This might seem like rearranging the deck chairs on two Titanics, but Orlando has had scouts attending Raptor's games recently so this might be a semi-plausible scenario:

Gary Trent Jr
Khem Birch

for

Mo Bamba
Terrence Ross

Magic need shooting and want to invest in a player that fits their timeline better so they pull the trigger on Gary Trent Jr. He also had his career game their back during the exile in Orlando, so I could see them making a play for him.

Toronto has been sniffing around Mo Bamba since at least last year when he was a free agent. I think the interest would be mutual as he gets a chance to play as a starter.

Khem and Terrence return back to their original franchises. Terrence adds a bench boost to Toronto, and Khem can mentor Paulo, Carter Jr. and Bol Bol on defense.

I understand why everyone feels that way, but is this a championship calibre core? Can you win a championship with Pascal and Fred as your highest paid players? Masai won’t commit to a treadmill

Well I'll tell you this.

I certainly hope this isn't the case. This is a basketball team, not a country club. It doesn't matter about players upstanding character if it's not leading to wins or team growth. I will be jumping on the Fire Masai/Bobby bandwagon if FVV is not dealt at the deadline and ends up leaving for another team or is overpaid to stay.
