I was super excited about the 2022 draft, there was alot of talent and very deep and some bigs to be excited about. 2023 prospects seem less talented and weak. tubelis, sensabaugh, and miller are on the top of the list, but not by much. the guys listed below i would be okay with drafting...

azuolas tubelis
armando bacot
brandon miller
jordan hawkins
maxwell lewis
keyonte george
nick smith
brice sensabaugh
kyle filipowski

Overall not a great list of prospects, i don't see alot of guys in the 2023 draft having 10-15 year careers.

Brice out of OSU is a really intriguing player…offensively. He’s heavy and slow footed, but his scoring and shooting are pretty phenomenal for a freshman. A weapon in the mold of AJ Griffin.

A player high up on draft boards I have no idea about. He seems like a HR swing for a top flight scoring Forward. He reclassified to be a freshman this year, but was the #1 HS Recruit previously for the draft class of 2024.

Any thoughts on this kid?

GG Jackson (South Carolina, PF, Freshman)

NBA Comparison:
Christian Wood/Pascal Siakam

At 6-foot-9, 215 pounds, GG Jackson is currently at his best rim-running, finishing and offensive rebounding. Like Christian Wood and Pascal Siakam, he’s also flashed a comfort level shooting threes or making plays off the dribble.

Siakam seems like a best-case outcome if his face-up game and shot-making versatility take off. A lesser version could be Wood, who still averaged a double-double last year, though he does have defensive question marks. Jackson is similarly active on the boards, and early signs point to a big who’ll regularly be launching threes.

Cleaning up his in-between game when forced to put the ball on the floor will be key to his chances of reaching Siakam levels offensively.

Taylor has progressed from hidden gem to likely lottery pick in only ten weeks.

Atlanta Hawks

15. Taylor Hendricks | UCF | Freshman

Springy athlete with versatility, though he must improve his handle to tap into scoring upside.

6'9" | 210 lbs
SHADES OF: Good Jabari Parker, Jeff Green

PLUSES
  • Heady interior defender who played some center in high school. Though he’s too lean to be a regular small-ball 5, he can do it in limited doses against smaller lineups and provide rim protection with his excellent hand-eye coordination and quick leaping ability. He doesn’t bite on many pump fakes despite his appetite for contesting shots, both when directly involved in actions and as a hustling help defender.
  • Willing to take a charge, fight for a loose ball, or get posterized for the sake of contesting a shot. He’ll deter more attempted highlights than he will be the victim of them, though. Most importantly, his effort sets an intense tone.
  • Agile perimeter defender who stays seated in his stance and slides laterally to stick with guards and wings. He needs to prove himself against speed demons but he displays the potential to defend effectively across skill positions.
  • Versatile pick-and-roll target who will be most useful on the pick-and-pop since he can hit 3s and penetrate off the bounce. He also has the athleticism to roll for lob chances. And since he’s a fluid ball handler and at his best attacking in a straight line, he’s also capable of short rolling to create off the bounce.
  • Bouncy leaper who’s comfortable around the rim. He knows how to make himself available for dump-offs and lobs, and he has soft hands to catch tough passes.
  • Face-up threat from the perimeter. He loves to jab and take jumpers over the defense, or use one- or two-dribble pull-ups. Sometimes, he’ll rip through to get all the way to the basket.
  • He does a lot of the little things on offense. He runs the floor hard in transition. He’ll set screens, though he slips them often. And he’ll crash the boards hard when needed.
  • He has made 39.4 percent of his 3s in college, compared to only 34 percent in high school events tracked by Cerebro Sports. It's encouraging that he has made progress, showing more consistent shooting mechanics. He's also making over 80 percent of his free throws.
MINUSES
  • He has not received chances to initiate pick-and-roll as the ball handler in college. It also wasn’t part of his repertoire at the high school level.
  • He is unproven against top college competition, making his transition to the pros a bit hazier than other prospects.

Averaging 27.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.0 blocks over Indiana's past four games, Jackson-Davis has become too effective of a paint scorer, passer and defender for teams to nitpick his outdated offensive game in the second round.

I'd still consider Oscar for a spot as an UDFA this summer. he'd make a great addition to the summer league squad as an elite rebounder.

Hawks scouting a new PF in the draft?

22. Kris Murray | Iowa | Junior

Intelligent player who understands his 3-and-D role and thrives within it

6'8" | 220 lbs | 23 years old
SHADES OF: Left-handed Keegan Murray

PLUSES
  • Low-maintenance scorer who doesn’t need touches to exert great effort while looking for opportunities to get buckets. He makes intelligent cuts, relocates off the ball to get open for jumpers, and loves to battle on the low block for positioning and easy buckets.
  • Knockdown spot-up 3-point shooter with smooth mechanics off the catch. He doesn’t fly around screens but projects as a player who can hit basic shots off pick-and-pops and other movements.
  • Does all the little things well. He’s a good passer and sets screens within the flow of the offense. In the same way his brother Keegan has fit into the complexities of the Kings’ motion offense, Kris will be a plug-and-play contributor.
  • Following a similar trajectory as his twin brother, Keegan, who emerged as an on-ball offensive presence in his final season at Iowa. Kris is increasingly showing prowess as a creator who can punish defenders with jumpers off the dribble. Or he can get all the way to the rim with simple straight-line drives.
  • Versatile on-ball defender capable of switching screens. He’s incredibly physical and also has great spatial awareness.

MINUSES
  • He’ll turn 23 before his rookie season begins. He tested the NBA waters following his sophomore season and decided to go back.
  • Lacks a dynamic handle off the dribble. Though he has a quick first step, he doesn’t have great speed or shake-and-bake moves.

Assuming the Hawks get the 15-16th pick, I'm keying on Hendricks and Rupert. Young high ceiling wings that guard multiple positions at a high level. 2nd group behind them are the Thompson twin and Lewis.

Both of those guys interest me as well. Rupert in particular sounds a bit like a longer, taller, younger Dejounte Murray.

Spoiler:
Rayan Rupert | New Zealand Breakers (NBL) | France

Lockdown defender who shows flashes on offense and could eventually become a complete player

6'6" | 192 lbs | 19 years old
SHADES OF: Mikal Bridges, Otto Porter

PLUSES
  • Harasses opponents using his 7-foot-3 wingspan. He can pressure the ball handler taking the ball up the floor or disrupt opponent actions in the half court by slipping around screens. Effort is not a concern.
  • Active hands in all situations on defense. He jumps passing lanes and attentively looks for chances to pickpocket unsuspecting post players. He might someday lead the league in deflections.
  • Skilled ball handler who looks fluid dribbling into pull-up jumpers even if his results as a scorer aren’t there yet. With his height and length, he can shoot over the top of any defender.
  • Potential secondary creator who could bring the ball up the floor and motor by defenders in transition to get to the basket. He makes some tasty passes such as crosscourt skips to corner 3-point shooters, and he follows up by relocating behind the arc.
  • Savvy mover without the ball. He looks for chances to cut to the basket, and he has the athleticism and touch to finish.
  • He comes from a highly accomplished basketball family. He’s the son of French national team captain Thierry Rupert, and his sister, Iliana, was a WNBA first-round draft pick who won a championship her rookie season.

MINUSES
  • Suffered a broken wrist in early November that sidelined him for two months.
  • Doesn’t handle contact well. He opts for pull-up 2s and floaters rather than leaning into defenders to get to the rim.
  • Streaky shooter who looks the part but hasn’t seen any consistency from 3 or midrange. The only saving grace is that he’s a solid free throw shooter with soft touch around the basket.
  • He’s a defensive ace overseas but will need to be more selective about when to go for steals in the NBA.

Unfortunately OKC and Tor have picks before the Hawks and they covet these kind of players. If he really is 6-8 with a 7-3 wingspan he's lotto bound. I kinda want to miss the playoffs entirely to be position to take either guy. Hendricks who I've compared to Josh Smith but actually might be a Jonathan Issac clone w/o the injures...

Bilal Coulibaly is another 18 year old French wing very similar to Rupert. France is pumping out these long elongated Stacy Augmon like prospects, we need another Plastic Man in the city, those were fun times. So this dude is kind of different. Has great timing on defense with the elite length.
