Absolutely huge game for Embiid. This is huge for mvp race we as know narratives drive the media. Jokic was too passive.
Embiid odds went from 9x to 4x to win mvp after this game. With Dal and their record and Luka hurt, it looks to be a 2 man race between Embiid and Jokic

Jokic is definitely still the MVP and Luka should be second with the games played, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Embiid is the second best player in the league right now. He’s been flat out better than Durant and Giannis and I don’t think it’s that close.

That won’t happen next time they meet in Denver. Watch Jokic cook PJ. One thing Jokic does well is adjust. He has a high basketball IQ. He will cook PJ next game.

I know Jokic will bring the business next time. That's what makes the greats, truly great!
He'll have chip on his shoulder for sure.

We’ve seen many legends go against each other. One will have a great game and the other not so good. They always adjust.

Great game by Embiid.
Happy for him.

Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy

The problem is Jokic will be stuck playing both ends in the next matchup while Embiid will continue to shift responsibility over to Tucker on defense. You saw Jokic lock Embiid down in the 1st half and you saw Embiid recover his energy when he no longer had to play defense and that's when he started cooking.
Jokic needs a Tucker otherwise he's not going to be able to compete in the individual matchups when he has to exert energy on both ends.

Embiid won’t even finish ahead of Tatum in the MVP race. Just watch.

I don’t think so. Once Jokic figures out PJ defense he will force Philly to put Embiid back on Jokic.

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2022-23 (pt 2)
Jokic having 2 mvp already is gonna be a huge factor. He could still be in the lead but the margin of error is slim trying to go for a 3peat whether it’s fair or not since it hasn’t been done in over 35 years. Personally don’t think he’s gonna get his third straight unless both he and nuggets are far and away the best player and team. There was a such a decent stretch where Jokic was just that and the nuggets were playing like the best team at one point which rightfully had him firmly at the top but not so much now. Obviously still a lot of games to be played but I think it’s gonna be difficult imo if embiid maintains consistent play, not at this level like today but overall strong close to the season.

Ive never seen a player of Jokic's caliber get dominated like this against his number one nemesis.
Statement game.

In fairness Embiid has been dealing with that ankle issue the last month or so. He was questionable the last 2 games.

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2022-23 (pt 2)
Last year, I think Embiid lost the MVP race after losing to Milwaukee and Denver B2B. Even though it doesn't make a ton of sense, games like these tend to matter for MVP voting. A few key victories over Boston, Denver re-match, and Milwaukee could really swing the trophy in his favor.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Barlow/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome
