Any version of Edwards is a upgrade to all the baggage Isaiah brought on and off the court.

Who else remembers when after getting ejected from a second technical foul for arguing with the ref and refusing to leave, his mom barging on to center court and ordering him to shut up walk away which he did?

Yeah, I'd say Edwards because he's not Rider.

Not seen enough of Edwards. Wasn't high on him coming out in the draft but whilst some still seem higher than I think I might be, am open as to what he is or might become.

Rider was a perpetual headache. I recall a Slam article where it's Scoop Jackson (iirc) saying "he's great, he's misunderstood, also he keeps flaking on appointments, standing me up". Then too despite usage, the Reference composites don't ever see him in any year as clearly above average, and is below for his career. And that's just the box. Some contemporary reporting has him as a very poor defender. Throw in unreliable. Throw in likely self-perception, regarding role, salary. I don't see where Rider fits on a potentially really good team, making them better.

lol. Rider averaged over 20 ppg once. in his most efficient season he averaged 16 ppg on 56% TS. His career high in rebounds was 4.7 and assists was 3.7. career high WS/48 .099 and VORP 1.5, PER 15.7

Rider's career bests from all his seasons in the league these are his numbers:

20 ppg, 56% TS, 4.7 rebs, 3.7 assists, .099 WS/48 and 1.5 VORP, 15.7 PER.

This season alone - just his third in the league Anthony Edwards has this production:

25 ppg, 58% TS, 6.1 rebs, 4.5 assists, .084 WS/48, 1.5 VORP and 18 PER.

so you can take all of Rider's career highs and compare with Edwards third season in the league and AE still blows him away. and that says nothing of all the baggage Rider carried with him that has been mentioned in this thread.

Fairer comp might be Isaiah Rider v. Andrew Wiggins in Minnesota and even Wiggins would probably win that considering all the problems Rider brought along. Maybe Isaiah Rider v. Anthony Bennet might be one he would win.

Good comparison. In 1996, Isaiah "JR" Rider was arrested for marijuana possession and for using a cloned cell phone - basically a cell phone with the serial numbers altered so that phone call charges are billed to somebody else. Please be advised that Rider earned a net income of $3 million being employed by Minnesota for the 1995-1996 season.

Rider was a wild boy. Rider I believe was also in the dunk contest. The only thing I know about Edwards as it pertains to before and after NBA games is that he is a nerd who eats trash American fast food. Rider is a much more entertaining character, so for Minnesota, I'd say he has the edge over Edwards thus far into his career.

If we're only doing this by on-court merit, obviously Edwards is the far superior player. Edwards is a good young talent with skills, and though not particularly outstanding in the bball iq department, is levels above Rider.

To be honest, Minnesota JR Rider vs. Minnesota Ricky Davis is the more worthwhile comparison. They might be the two worst big minutes player in NBA history.

For career - so going beyond the scope of the OP - Rider > Edwards. Rider is an NBA champion with perhaps the most dominant team in NBA history. Edwards has a lot of catching up to do.

He would put up better numbers.

Shortened 3 point line + worse defenses + illegal defenses

ANT would live at the Rim like Jordan did.
