Perhaps there is a better way to specify the business description/line of business?

IE in Las Vegas thrives on entertainment businesses, but there is a detail business description such as gambling, strip club/adult entertainment, arcades, etc.

Professional Sports League should be the actual business description.

People in here are acting like a sleuth just discovered the Lost Ark, Atlantis, and the Holy Grail and that basketball is going to forever change because of these damning revelations.

It's a simple category designation for business and/or tax purposes that's been public knowledge for years. As mentioned other major professional sports leagues (NFL/MLB/NHL etc.) are categorized the exact same way.

What other designation for professional sports leagues is more appropriate? They aren't an insurance company, they aren't a nonprofit, they aren't a manufacturer making widgets. Entertainment is a broad category.

Can individuals still do shady stuff? Yes, think Tim Donaghy. However any league-approved game fixing would still break numerous laws(think about the sportsbook $$ alone), would destroy the reputation of the NBA, and make this whole entire gravy train dry up for everybody. Do you really think that's the NBA's secret operating plan?

/shrug

By all means though continue to craft your fancy new tinfoil hats!

Why would the NBA have to be in on it? Organized crime has been intertwined with American sports for decades. It's hard to buy off a player (although there's been cases of players throwing games), but it's probably not hard at all to buy out a ref. Politicians let themselves get bought out by lobbyists for $20k and a grilled cheese sandwich ; I bet refs are even cheaper lmao and just as good ROI if not better.

Ok, but what does that have to do with the NBA being registered as an entertainment company? That was the whole point of this thread being created.

Silly thread.

I bet you didn't know the Harlem Globetrotters matches aren't actually fixed.

How does that legally mean they can fix results?

U can't be held liable when u describe the fraud you're committing. NBA is not claiming to be "real" competition... it's entertainment.

Wide ranging subjectivity of rules = manipulation & control of games.

I read on a real news site that the Lakers/Celtics game was mandated to come down to the last play in regulation and that Tatum was instructed to stop LeBron by any means necessary and that the foul would "not be seen".

LeBron knew this decision, but couldn't say anything because otherwise it would lead to exposing how his championship wins were fixed.

Big NBA doesn't want you to know this...
