I agree with the Dame is a #2 on a ring team, but at the same time he has lead his team year after year to the PO's and made a WCF. Irving has a really poor pedigree when leaned on as the top dog. This makes it pretty clearly Dame in this poll for me.

Hmmm... it depends?

Are we going strictly by statistics: Well, then it's Damian Lillard.

Or, are we including other intangible values that a leader can bring to an organization: Well, then it's Damian Lillard easily.

Granted, if the poll was simply to confirm that only one guy was fortunate enough to play with LeBron James: Well, then Kyrie wins!

What does success mean to you guys btw? lol. It seems like you're only successful if you reach the finals or win a chip. You know how hard that is? You know how many things have to go right for that to happen?

Dame's team is in the playoffs every year, been to a conference finals, been past the first round a bunch of times with no All-NBA teammates (though CJ was like all star level). He's successful.

Kyrie Irving, he’s much more versatile offensively. More skilled and talented. Better defensively.

Kyrie’s harder to game plan against and defend, he just has too many tools in his tool bag, this helps break stagnant offensive zone ruts by getting ridiculous buckets for his team when highly needed. Both players can shoot the 3 but Irving is simply a far superior player inside the 3pt line.

Kyrie had peak LeBron James.

Lillard had Aldridge and you’re going to point to team success in a comparison?

A borderline top 5 all time player and a fringe all star?

Kyrie couldn’t get to Conf Finals with Tatum & Brown. Dame got there with Aminu & Harkless.

Dame has at least made it to the conference finals as the best player on his team. Irving hasn’t.

i don’t hate kyrie at all but there’s no way i wouldn’t choose dame. kyrie is liable to go nuts at any moment and decide not to play.

And in 2018 the Pels swept Dame in 1st round as a lower seed, with Dame completely helpless against Jrue defence. Dame laid a huge egg, 35.5 FG% and 30.0 3P% for the series.

Kind of irrelevant when he wasn't the best player on his team in the series against Denver that got them to the conference finals.

CJ: 26/6/3 on 46/38/77 splits
Dame: 25/5/6 on 41/29/80 splits

Dame had 13 points on 3-17 shooting in game 7 compared to CJ's 37 points on 17-29 shooting. Dude was horrible all series long. Outside of that year, Dame has 5 first round exits and two first round victories in the playoffs.

Pretty sure Kyrie thoroughly outplaying the unanimous MVP in a 7 game finals series is 10x more impressive than anything Dame has accomplished in his career.

lillard is better at everything except handles/flashiness. and off the court he's not a headache to his team.

lol such a disingenuous post. Tatum averaged 12/8/2 on 46% TS in the one series he lost with Kyrie. CJ literally carried Dame in the 2019 WCSF to make the conference finals yet you don't even mention him.

Kyrie has also only been a second option on a championship team. If Dame played with Lebron, i'm sure he would have a title too.

Dame has led his team to the conference finals (little bit of a fluke but still he did it). Kyrie as the leader of a team dragged it down (boston played better without him).

Tor_Raps wrote:Kyrie is one of the most overrated players of all time. Dude is a tremendous individual talent but he gets treated like he has proven to be a successful leader of any team.

Even as a Robin, he's been a headache in many stops. Give Lillard the teams Kyrie has and I bet you he has MUCH MORE success.

He's just being a good solider right now because he saw that no team wanted him at the dollars he expected during this past offseason. Feel sorry for whoever maxes him out.

Word was that the only reason the Nets pursued him in the first place is because KD said he would not consider signing there without Kyrie. You can also tell how excited the Nets are to re-sign him right now since they haven't done that, unless Kyrie+KD make a deep playoff run the Nets will likely happily watch Kyrie walk out the door.

It seems many teams aren't lining up to give Kyrie a new deal, with how often he either does something dumb or decides he can't play for reasons.

I’d go Lillard overall, just because of durability and the lack of off court drama and distractions he brings to the table…but he’s absolutely one of those guys whose horrible performances get ignored because people like him. Like, he’s considered a big time “clutch” performer…but he’s laid some really bad eggs in the playoffs, his lows have been lower than Kyrie’s for sure.

Overall player it’s Kyrie but intangibles, leadership and other factors like reliability tilts it towards dame.
