I posted this on the previous page..

Hal14 wrote:Not really something we need to worry about right now. Madar is playing overseas again for the 2022-2023 season.

What about the year after that? Well, we can cross that bridge when we come to it. That's a year from now. A lot can happen in a year. A year ago, we didn't have Brogdon, White or Davison on the team - just shows how quickly things can change.

A year from now, if there's still a logjam in the back court, then he obviously won't come over.

If he ever does make the celtics roster, it will be dependent on 2 primary factors:

1) Is he ready? (from a physical standpoint and a skills standpoint)
2) Is there a realistic chance for him to get minutes?

If the answer is yes to both questions, he'll come over and compete for a spot in training camp or sign a contract prior to training camp (he may tell the team that he will only come over if he has a guaranteed roster spot, rather than just a training camp deal, which is what happened with Nigel Hayes in 2021 and why Hayes didn't join the Celtics).

But as long as the answer is no to at least 1 of the questions, he'll remain in Europe.

Unless a trade presents itself where we can improve our team - then perhaps Madar's draft rights could be traded.

It's really that simple.

And there's no expiration on Madar's draft rights or how long we can stash him. The spurs still have the draft rights to some european guy who is in his 50's and has been retired for several years.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I know he is a long shot, but he is not hopeless. He can come over in a few years after more development and give it a shot.

Yam looking good out there!

Making sick passes out of the PnR. Hitting shots, really keeping pressure on the opposing team on both ends of the floor. Really nifty drive and 1 handed finish over a bigger defender..

And he's doing this as the starting PG in the best league in the world, outside of the NBA.

I feel like this thread will be alive for the next 8-10 years, and he still will have not filled out.

I kinda like that announcers style on there, good guy. Yam hitting 39% from 3 so far this year.

Luckily, we didn't draft him to be a heavyweight boxer.

Does he make Pritchard expendable next season? Not a huge role to fill, but he doesn’t have the size and it’s asking too much of him as a rookie to fill the shoes to move any of Brogdon or White, so PP is all that’s left (that’s what she said).

IDK, it's hard to say. All we know for sure is, Pritchard, JB, White, Smart and Brogdon are all under contract for next season.

So more than likely, JD will be on a 2-way again and Madar will be overseas for another year.

But, if any of our current guards get traded, that could mean we bring JD and Madar into training camp with the chance to battle it out for a roster spot..

This video is 4 months old but don't think it ever got posted in here..

While people criticize him for being skinny, it does look like he has gotten stronger. Like if you pause the video at 6:16, he looks stronger..

A lot of good info about his journey but the Smart bashing in the beginning hurt credibility right off the bat.

Well, I think his point was that last year's celtics team overachieved - which it did, considering we were picked to finish 13th in the league and had 19th highest payroll.

Plus we had a 1st year head coach and a guy at PG (Smart) who had never been a full time starting PG before.

I think everyone knows Smart is a good player, but when mainstream people think about Marcus Smart, they think about defense, diving on the floor, streaky shooting, hustle plays. They don't immediately think "Oh yeah, that guy could be your starting PG on an NBA finals team". At least no one thought that going into last season..

I think JD is maybe 4-5x more likely to be an NBA player than Yam. Size, skill, athleticism, feel for the game -- almost all favor Davison, especially where it counts.

I think JD has a higher upside and is more likely to be an NBA player. However, if Madar does become an NBA player, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens sooner than it happens for JD because:

-Madar is the far better 3 pt shooter (although to be fair, JD is shooting with an NBA 3 pt line..)
-Madar appears to be slightly better defensively
-Madar is 2 years older and has 4 more years of experience playing pro ball so could be closer to being ready..
