Portland is getting a G-League team next year. Their affiliate will play at the Uni. of Portland. The team name is TBA.

The GL has all NBA teams represented except one (PHX) and two extra teams (G-League Ignite and the Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico)

The funny thing about the Capitanes is that they have a 4-5 year agreement [I'm not entirely sure how it played out with the Covid year] but they are going to be in the GL for that duration, then return to Mexico's basketball league. It's definitely a trial period of how NBA basketball operates in Mexico in general.

I think GL-Ignite will be around for a while because it's a cool arena for younger players to cut their chops before the NBA. OR maybe PHX purchases them (Which makes a hell of a lot of sense as GLI has been playing in Vegas and SF).

A lot has happened and now as most all NBA teams are managing an affiliate, GL teams aren't folding or being shut down as they were in the early/mid-2000's. It feels like it's at a place where GL has some legs to make a bigger impact in the BBall world these days.

This is Great News for the Trailblazers, the NBA, the G League, and all others involved.
I had heard that there is a plan to have up to 5 x Two-Way players per NBA Team, once all the Teams had acquired an affiliate.

I'd Love to see the Two-Ways, and the G League in general, grow their teams, personnel, and capital.
Basketball is everywhere now. The Capitanes, GL-Ignite, even the Overtime Elite (a Pro League, for 16+ yr olds).

Sotto was with the G League Ignite for a bit, and flirted with joining the Overtime Elite.
Due to a series of mishaps, he bounced around the Australian NBL, Japanese B. League, and reportedly back to the Ignite.

He went Undrafted in 2022. And is with the Orlando Magic Summer League, as of this Writing.
In the NBL, he shot 38.5% in 2021-22. He could be a Sleeper for a Two-Way Contract.

New team name for PDX is the Rip City Remix. Again will be playing at the University of Portland

Mat Ishbia announces that PHX will be in the GLeague soon. Curious to see if he purchases the G-League Ignite (plays in LV and SF) or they create a new team (Once was a team in Prescott, AZ).

A new location or PHX G-League team would make sense in Tuscon, Prescott again, Albuquerque, San Diego, or within PHX itself.

I could also see El Paso, which is a bit of distance but has a sizeable population.

I think the G League has good basketball, but there’s a lack of fan support sometimes because the parent clubs would rather be a practice squad league.

Put teams in Boise (ID), Albuquerque (NM), Bismarck (ND), Canton (OH), Orem/Ogden (UT) instead of these NBA cities like Portland, OKC, SLC, Cleveland they’re doing now.

I like having G-League Ignite in Las Vegas & Mexico having a team.

I hope the PHX team is in Albuquerque or Tucson instead of PHX.

I'd like to see them go over 30 Teams. Why not have more than 1 Affiliate G League Team per NBA Team?
Have like, up to 48 Teams. Just add another Round to the Playoffs.

I'm in total agreement with having the G League Teams in alternate cities.
NBA is taking their time, and being Stingy. Develop these players Stateside.

Put Real money into the G League. The Advertisement funds are there. the Fans are the there. The Talent is there.
No Brainer, 101.

I am with you too. There's many places in the USA and close to USA that could have divisions of clubs. 48 teams would be feasible. I mean, excluding Alaska and Wyoming, and maybe Hawaii for logistics, almost every state could field at least one GL team, and the big population states could have more than one. Canada and Mexico border cities are great opporunities.

With the profit margins here, the most expensive part could be the leases and stadium facilities in lower-level cities. There might be some complications there but overall I think people in those cities would begin increasing interest in the sport over 5-10 years, and the GL could be really developed well in that time.

Just for example, Montréal, El Paso, Boulder, Little Rock, Albuquerque, Jacksonville, Boise, Vancouver, Monterrey, Oakland, The Bronx, Cincinnati, Saint Louis, Kansas City, Tulsa, Louisville (KY), San Diego/OC/Tijuana, Baltimore are all population heavy enough to support a team and you might have some that are more profitable than others with attendance, but overall the league could emphasize development more.

Even in my modest city of Santa Rosa, CA (175k population - but over half a million in the county within 40 minute drive), the only real question is venue to host it, but there's a lack of sports events here, unless driving to San Francisco or Sacramento, and if there were a local professional team, this city would rally around it for sure. I just think the NBA needs to take a hard look at bringing in teams under at first NBA ownership and then locate buyers. Once there's a buyer, that's instant profit for the rest of the league via the purchase.

Classic buy-low moment....
Cheers

Eh 32-34 teams is probably about right.

I’d love to see old team names back: Idaho Stampede, Dakota Wizards, Canton Charge, Maine Red Claws.

Fort Wayne is moving to an Indianapolis suburb, which is kinda lame to me.

I hope PHX puts a team in Albuquerque or Tucson.

The Clippers should move the Ontario team to San Diego.
