Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread - Part 5
Giddey will never be able to defend at Scottie's current level, which still has a ways to go. But he is a year younger and a much better ballhandler and point guard at this stage. Scoring is a wash. Looks more like a Rubio-level prospect to me where he'll just be strong and competitive but not an all-star. Also tough as ****, which is typically the case for Aussie prospects not named Ben Simmons. If he played for the Raptors most of us would like how he plays, and it's not a surprise the Raptors were in on him early and went through the extra hoop of waiting through quarantine.

Barnes usage rate is gonna look lower simply because he is one of the few guys, the other being Siakam (sometimes) who makes a pass in which really he is setting up the next pass. So no assist, no shot, no usage rate uptick, yet he made the play happen.
Total touches last 15 games to (per game)
FVV - 86.9
Siakam - 82.9
Barnes - 78.9
The people asking for him to be more involved don't seem to realize he already quite involved in the offence, just what he does not not necessarily translate to box score stats. Over the last 15 games he is 19th in the league in touches.

As he should be, and you can tell how much of an improvement it's been although the team in general is finding new ways to lose but I'm liking his development last couple of months.

Phoenix was hiding Cam Johnson on him and he didn't want to drive. Developing player is figuring it out. Nothing to get all anxious about.

Scottish is the one.
Pascal and fvv certainly are not.

Giddey's hitting the 3 at .330 this season vs .260 last season while Scottie has stayed at .300. Similarly, Giddey has upped his 2p% to .526 from .492 while Scottie has regressed to .512 from .543. Similarly, Giddey's AST, BLKS and RBDS are up/stable while Barnes is down on all metrics.
Giddey's improved on pretty much all raw stats while Scottie has regressed. It's easy to see why the perception is different when their numbers look pretty similar.
Barns is actually up quite a bit on assists and his turn overs has barely budged. So it's false to say Barnes has regressed on all raw stats.
In all honesty his stats are still recovering from that horrible November. People forget his FG% was near 40% at one point, now it's getting closer to his FG% from last year.
His FTr has also taken a leap overall as well has his FT%.
I took a look, he's averaging more blocks than last year and his steals are slightly behind.
Basically everyone is only looking at his scoring and that's about it.
Yeah I got my tabs mixed up and edited the post. It’s just the shooting numbers.

It's quickly becoming apparent other players are holding back Scottie. Management needs to step in and remove the roadblocks.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

The eye test backs this up too. He's been really good and exerting a lot of effort on defense. I would love to see him amp up his conditioning in the offseason so he can sustain that for long stretches.
If Scottie and Precious continue to play this way for the rest of the season then there is at least some positives to take away from this season along with that lottery pick of course.

Scotty got up one shot in the first quarter against Suns, two shots in the first quarter against Portland. For whatever reason they avoid going to Scotty early. Why are we avoiding him early and messing with his rhythm? I don't get what we're trying to do here.

It seems like he isn't looking to score early in a lot of games, he's more so trying to get others going and then later in the game he starts getting aggressive looking for his offense. There are games where this isn't the case, but generally speaking this is what we've seen this season.

He’s obviously just coming back from injury, and he’s never been an absolute shutdown, versatile defensive player, but Johnson’s been a good defender (by the metrics) for three years now.

Lowry used to do that too. Made sure his guys got theirs early.

Rising Stars players being announced in under an hour. Safe to assume Scottie will be selected
Really wish they’d go back to the traditional format though. The format last year sucked

i'm gonna make a *wild* guess how this plays out.
forum: scottie needs to be first option
raptors: trade fred + pascal + og to make scottie first option
raptors: scottie struggles a bit and teams game plan accordingly and doesn't look great
forum: scottie is not *him* - time to move on

This forum is rarely, if ever, a monolith. I think most people on this forum would give Scottie at least 2-3years to figure it out.

Ultimately, Scottish isn't a true first option though.

LOL this forum would absolutely not give Scottie 2-3years. Half this board already is losing their mind after 1.5 seasons that Scottie is not the #1 option. Patience is exactly the one thing I can GUARANTEE this board does not have

Typically, that's how things go in the NBA.
If you are the anointed guy, and you ain't the one, yeah, GMs tend to move on goddamn quickly.
