LeBron passes Jackson and Nash to become 4th all-time in assists
Pretty wild that towards the end of this countdown to surpass Kareem in scoring, he casually jumps from 6 to 4 on the all time assist leaderboard.

Very impressive, not far behind CP3, so could finish ahead of him, and will probably pass Kidd as well. Stockton's record is looking pretty safe, for a LONG TIME, especially with load management.

I'm 40 and don't think Stockton's record will be broken in the next 40 years. He put it out there so much further than Kareem did even, and the NBA also has less of one guy doing all the creating in todays games and multiple players with skillsets that can create for themselves and others.

Stocktons record will have to be broken due to a meta shift. Like the pace of play increases by 20% or maybe teams go like 100% shooters everywhere with one guard playing QB to find them.
In NBA as we know it Stocktons record is untouchable.

Stockton’s record is fake though. Well documented by audits of his game with score keepers that gave him many assists that never occurred.
Can we please get Stocktons accurate assist numbers. Could LeBron catch that? He seems to have a path to pass CP3 and Kidd for #2 all time
In no way is it Stocktons fault. It’s just a stain on the game that he was given fake assists by Utah score keepers with an agenda

Were the scorekeepers on road games in on the scam, too?

According to these numbers from Stat Muse, Stockton averaged about 0.7 more assists per game at home than on the road in his career.
Of course a little home cooking on the score sheet is a practice known to occur even today, and it may be reasonable to expect a little bit better performance at home than away too, so not sure how statistically significant that is compared to others.
But those are the #s:

Not saying anything about home-town scorekeeping, but it's well known that most players shoot better at home than away, especially bench players = more assists.

Stockton averaged 10.9 assists/game in Utah and 10.1 assists/game away. He played 751 home games in his career. So if we assume that the difference is totally unfair bias that only affected Stockton, he would have been credited 601 more assists than he deserved over the course of his career. So now instead of ~3700 more assists than his closest competitor, he's down to a 3100 assist lead.
This, of course, ignores that the aforementioned closest competitor (Kidd) averaged a greater home/away split in terms of assists (9.2 home vs 8.2 road).
Not really related, but I noticed it while looking up these stats: Mo Cheeks is 15th all time in assists with 7392. Just the difference between Stockton and #2 is over half as many assists as Cheeks had in his career.
Edit: One more fact: The gap between Stockton and Kidd is almost exactly the number of assists Nikola Jokic has recorded in his entire career. The gap alone would rank as the 150th most prolific assister of all time.

Yes, and the Jazz were awesome at home. Their win % at home when Stockton played was 78.4% versus 48.3% on the road. The Jazz averaged 106.2 ppg at home with Stockton versus 100.3 ppg on the road. Stands to reason he was averaging a bit more assists at home. Stats taken from Stats Muse.

Stockton's home vs away APG gap is no different to Magic Johnson, smaller than Jason Kidd's and a little larger than Chris Paul's.
If you use Stockton's road APG - 10.1 per game - and apply it to his entire career you end up with 15,244 assists. Only 562 below what he currently has. In other words, it's closer to a non-issue than it is a 'stain on the game'.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think a player averaging 3 PPG and negative APG and RPG would make the hall of fame.
Though perhaps that slam dunk 'tittle' was just really impressive.

How could a player have 9 scoring tittles and finish with 3ppg lol, the separation between LeBron & Jordan is a hall of fame career, it’s that big of a gap.

True the difference between Lebron & Jordan’s points, rebounds and assists is a solid career.
