I don't think Pelicans have a firm grasp on what team they have. Too many missed games this season.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

They have an idea they could be a top 4 seed type team if things fall in to place. But so many disruptions this year and still pretty young overall.
They are a year or two (and a 70+ games from Zion) away from being their best. Griff needs to work a bit of magic and find some better fits in lateral/slight upgrade trades.

Poor 3pt shooting and bad defense.
Injuries are a problem, but they can't seem fix the first two problems.

I agree with the shooting, but theyve been a top 5 defense for the majority of the season. Hell even after this 9 game slid, theyre still 7th in defense.

I'm still waiting for this Brandon Ingram improvement I have been hearing about since he left LA. He now shoots more shots on a worse percentage than when he was with the Lakers. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the improvement. Is he even much better than Kuzma at this point?
Zion being out definitely hurts though.

Why do they shoot bad, they have shooters. I wish my raps had some of those shooters from the pelicans

Re: The hell is wrong with the Pelicans? 9 losses in a row
Nobody should be surprised that a young team that was in 1st place in the West in December is struggling when top players miss games and the schedule gets tougher. It's not just the loss of talent. It's difficult for young players to be plugged into different roles. Look at the difficulties other top teams like Boston and Memphis have had recently while playing mostly intact. The "What's Wrong With .... " proposition begs a question the answer to which is blatantly obvious.

Do they get a lot of open shots though? I know CJ is their "distributor", but maybe if they had a pure passer, they might do a bit better in that regard. Not even sure if this is true, just speculating.

What? BI has been awful in his 3 games since returning, no doubt about that. But if you dont see an improvement in his game compared to when he was in LA, really dont know what to tell you. Prior to his injury this year, he was shooting 47/46/87. Last year in the playoffs he averaged 27/6/6 on 47/40/83 shooting.
Again ya he has been awful since coming back, and I definitely think his injury history doesnt get talked about enough because he appears to be as injury prone of a guy as there is right now. But ya he's clearly improved since his LA days.

Man those are some really small sample sizes. He has been in NO for 4 years. I guess we can wait until this year has ended once he is healthy, but I'm not going to hang a 6 game playoff series and the start of this season as a suitable sample size when there's 3 other years to look at.

LA:
2.9 assists per game
3pt%: 33% on 2 attempts
66 FT%
NO (196 games):
4.8 assists per game
3pt%: 37% on 5.5 attempts per game
85 FT%
Hows that sample size? Takes over double the amount of 3s and has 4+%. While also upping his FT% by almost 20%.

Right, but do you see how adding averages from his rookie year can skew numbers a bit? Obviously you're going to improve as you get older, but checking his last year in LA to his career in NO, it's just not this insane jump that I was hearing would happen. I gotta give him credit on his FT shooting though. He was absolutely terrible with LA.
I just heard about him being "THAT guy", the next superstar. 23/6/6 in this era just isn't anything to write home about. He just seems pretty good to me. He was pretty good in LA too. When is he going to be better than just good?

Just by looking at box score stats:
3 point shooting - Went from 1.8 attempts a game in LA to 4-6 in NO..while his 3 point percentage went up
Free throw shooting - Went from upper 60s to mid 80s percentage. No drop in attempts.
Assists per game and AST/TO ratio increased
Ingram is pretty streaky which makes it seem like he hasnt really improved, but its obvious he has in very important areas of the game since he left the lakers.

I just saw the standings. CJ and JV + role players should be better than the tanking teams. 1-9 is horrible.
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Re: The hell is wrong with the Pelicans? 9 losses in a row
Zion is down to just 56%-active for Pelican games. The most optimistic outlook for Zion is to return to action on Feb 7 on a minutes restriction to play in four games before the All Star game.
It probably will never happen, but Zion should self decline to start the All Star game so one of Sabonis or Markkanen, two players who have been delivering for their teams night in and night out, gets the start.

You saw it in the playoffs last year. He's proven himself a playoff high level performer when healthy

If the Lakers beat them on Saturday they'll have the exact same record. Tune in.
