Re: Trade Deadline Rumours & Discussion Thread II
This will be interesting for Raps as this is the first time Masai has gone into a year hoping to be a playoff team and be 6 games below. It's different than those Demar/Lowry years cuz they always were at the top of the East during RS.
But Masai isn't going to make any bad deals, so if he doesn't like the deals he's getting (Especially for OG) wouldn't be surprised if he stays. But def a tough spot for management cuz of Trent/FVV futures.

Malachi Flynn?
give Dowtin a shot.....if we're tanking then throw some of the guys into the fire and let them develop

lol feel like you keep throwing this out there. There is no way the Pels would trade that pick, especially if it's not top 3 protected. It makes no sense for them. They can still outbid teams for OG without even touching their most valuable asset.

lol wtf. You can dislike a player on our team but your post just screams blind hate. Fred's catch & shoot numbers are slowly climbing back up. He'd be the perfect compliment to PG & Kawhi. Stop hating.
It’ll be fun seeing him forced to take a back seat
The trade off is a championship, it'll be fun seeing him win another title too.

I'm fine with adding protections. I really want another back end lottery pick somehow. Of course there would be consideration in these trades from the other side. We just don't know the pricing.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

itsdanger is talking about making a trade with lakers and getting pelicans pick (the other end of the swap) back. pelicans have free fallen in standings.
currently the pelicans have lakers pick (9th)
lakers have pelicans pick (13th)
BUT the lakers arent allowed to trade that pick because of stepian rule.

There's a lot of stuff we do not know about the whole PHX situation he's in but he should still be able to get his and show out.
Feels very Toronto to take a gamble on a player and hope for the best but at least the logjam of small PFs becomes less of an issue. Offensively he's not missing very much, he's a big body who can move on the screen and roll, has good touch and OK range with a seemingly developing 3pt shot (31% on 0.5 attempts). Most Cs don't have the greatest offensive awareness and I think he falls around average in that regard for his position. Defensively he's solid man-to-man defender but lacks the speed to switch and defend guards on the perimeter. He is also not a real shot blocker but still a paint deterrent because of his size and chooses to put 2 hands up instead of going for blocks more often, which could be an athletic limitation, or maybe more of a way to reduce getting into foul trouble.
At this point I just want to watch the Raptors play good basketball, not what we have been given this year the majority of games and I don't think you can doubt them improving after acquiring DA for OG... The concern then becomes what happens in the next couple of years.
Trading OG for DA is a downgrade on the floor man. The fit is even more clunky offensively with a Barnes-Pascal-DA front court. For all the goodwill Pascal had early shooting it from deep, he is now down to 31.4% for the season and Scottie is at 29%. Pair that together with our starting back court(if not traded) that is also shooting below their career norms, the paint becomes that much more congested.
Plus his contract is fugly, and it eliminates all the developmental minutes for Precious and Koloko.
I agree it's not great, but the pick and roll opportunities DA would provide for all of our starters is something we are sorely lacking that even when Scottie fills that role we improve. To me, Siakam and Scottie are more High Post scorers and they have playmaking chops. Actions with Pskills and Barnes with Ayton should give people better looks outside but it's a gamble for sure.
2019 WAS a dream

Re: Trade Deadline Rumours & Discussion Thread II
I look at Fred the way I look at my old iPhone 7 that I'm putting on Kijiji for sale. My asking price is $120 but I would also give it up as easily for $70. I just want it gone even if I'm not getting a full return. That's how much I want to get rid of it, I mean him.

Especially when you consider that the iPhone 7 will cost you 35M per year to keep loll.

the lotto is projecting to be a very forward heavy draft.
if not moving up for wemba/scoot strong chances are another 6'7"-6'9" player will be added.

I agree in a vacuum DA is a really good option as a pick setter but that is a slight improvement for the massive downgrade we'd have exchanging OG for DA in regards to our biggest need in reliable floor spacing. The upside with OG is also in a different stratosphere than DA and i'd rather just give him his new contract than pay Ayton is max deal already.
DA is a luxury that a team built around Scottie and Pascal just doesn't need man. Precious is giving us similar production to Ayton at a fraction of the price. A package built around CamJo, Dario and picks would be a much better outcome.... even then its a package that doesn't necessarily blow me away either. Phoenix only has their own picks, which will be terrible if they get OG from us.

F*ck the Clippers, zero interest in helping them.

Some of y’all hate for Fred runs too deep lol
Absolutely he does. No he’s not great when he’s trying to force his way to the top of the pecking order here. He’s trying to do too much HERE, in LA he will know his role as he did when we had Kawhi. He’s essentially used as Steve Kerr & John Paxton were for MJ & Pipp, a great release valve to pitch out to and hit big shots to keep defences honest on those 2 players which opens up the floor for them. So yes for THEM he would be great as he was for Kawhi & Pascal here…I’m saying this as someone who WANTS to trade FVV lol so I’m not some Fred stan but on the flip side I think you’re being a bit of a hater.
The bigger value for the Clippers is that although they have good depth, they don't really have their "these are my 5 guys" lineups. Morris was their versatile big, Norm was their consistent utility scorer and Jackson was their defacto ball handler, but all those guys were still in flux depending on if they wanted to go big, small, playmaking, etc.
Fred gives them another guy who's in all but their "all wings" lineups.
They need a jump in quality over quantity and Fred provides that.
They honestly probably need another wing that fits that description but they just don't have the assets for it.

It's not so much about the height being an issue, it's more of the skillset. If those guys can dribble and shoot the ball then we are good.
Masai's problem was that he got a bunch of guys that cannot shoot the ball to compliment each other off the ball.
