Don't know why we'd want Prichard either. Another small, no defense guard. He averages 5 points. He's not any better than Maledon. Definitely not worth McDaniels.

I thought about this trade yesterday because it made some sense from a contract perspective for the Hornets, but unless you guaranteed me they weren't bringing Miles back and were definitely going to trade Rozier, I don't see any need to add another offense only player (especially at guard).
I'm way more open about trading McDaniels since he is unrestricted. Id take neutral value instead of demanding an overpay, unless they know he wants to stay, in which case I still see no reason not to keep him. I couldn't find a trade I liked that worked for him, but trading him for another developing player who is still cost controlled for more years makes theoretical sense, but I couldn't think of a deal like that for him that I liked.
Rumor the Hornets have expressed interest in Payton Pritchard.. think that’d be a McDaniels scenario or a lower offer from Charlotte?
Sounds fair enough from a value perspective, but I'm personally indifferent to Pritchard. I don't like the idea of adding more undersized and/or poor defending guards to this roster tbh.

Not worth him in a vacuum, but if McDaniels' free agency has him going for anything from a second-rounder to a 1st it's conceivable.
Pritchard's a defensive liability but he can stretch the floor a mile, hustles his ass off, points and percentages are low because of minutes. Has made some big plays for Boston over the last couple of years.

Don't think they can trade the 2024 pick because it will be owed to San Antonio.

Yeah I think based on the reporting this isn't close to getting the deal done.

Yeah, just because he hustles in 10 mins of playing time for the Celtics doesn't mean he will be a contributor for us. These types of guys are pretty easy to find, they only play 10 mins for a reason.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
My point is he doesn't do anything that's worth trading for. He's a good shooter who hustles. But is also a bad defender and can't do much else than shoot. If he was 6'5 instead of 6'1 he might be worth getting. But one thing we definitely don't need is small guards who can't defend.
McD has more value than that. He fits on every team in the league. Unless he makes it clear he isn't staying here, I'm very against giving him away. And if he doesn't want to stay here, we can surly do better than a 3rd string player or a mediocre draft pick.
He's both a win-now piece, and a future piece. I want, at the least, a good prospect for him. Not a throwaway.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
The main problem with Prichard is we can't even find minutes for a promising 21yr-old PG (Theo Maledon) as it is due to us already having Melo, DSJ and also that Terry is a PG in all reality. We'd be trading a guy who is in our rotation (McD) for a dude who may not see the floor barring injury.
We'd be better off taking a weak sauce 2nd round pick from a playoff team than a guy who isn't going to help us at all.

Why are we trading McDaniels again? He's only 25 and I much prefer him to PJ.

because he's an UFA who we might lose for nothing?
i'm souring a bit on mcd last few weeks. love him as 8th man type, combo forward. would ot be happy w/ him as starter/6th. he;s got serious tunnel vision. not elite roleplayer at any one area.
i'd rather have pj at 15-20 than mcd at 8-12
and i still dont see any world where we keep both
plus miles coming back (likely) really reduces need for mcd
hope thor/bryce can take leap in next 12-18 months to get to mcd level
high chance we draft a player who needs mcds mins right away
healthy cody eats in to mcd sf mins

This sight compares him to Monk a fair bit

It does seem like we have a logjam of fringe starter/6th man wings - McD, PJ, Martin, Oubre, Thor

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
Wonder if we could work something around a McD for Vanderbilt trade? I'm a big fan of Vando - he would bring a great deal of defensive intensity, can switch 1 to 5, is a strong defensive rebounder and all around disruptor. Not sure how much the Jazz are valuing him in trade but I'm assuming a bit more than McD alone.
Anywho - random based on this throw away line "Vanderbilt is "increasingly likely" to be dealt before the trade deadline" found here: https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/270241/Blazers-Interested-In-Trading-For-Jarred-Vanderbilt.

Vandy could be nice here with a coach who was willing to play PJ at the 5 more. Vandy at the 4 next to a non-spacing center causes issues on offense. Hes been at his best playing with KAT and Markkanen at the 5.

Makes sense. Not sure I even believe the reporting - why would the Jazz want to move on from a talented 23 yr old starter on a cheap contract that slots in so nicely with Markkanen and Olynyk? Especially when all I've heard is positive things.

I pray that MJ doesn't push Mitch to go get Kyrie and sign him to a max. Don't laugh, this is a definite option for us, since MJ is so desperate to win.

Everything is going to grind to a halt now until Brooklyn is sorted isn’t it?
Everyone waits to see how Durant will react
