Why don't you put a list together of your favorite prospects at each position. Then we will compare notes. Sound good?

DL- Jaylen Carter, Bryan Bresee and Mazi Smith.
RB- Bijan Robinson.
OL- Paris Johnson
DB- Devon Witherspoon, Joey Porter and Clark Phillips III.
LB- Drew Sanders.
Those are the players I would take and feel are need areas for us. Of course we are in desperate need of a QB but are stuck with Dumb Dak for at least one more year. Jaylen Carter and Bijan Robinson are the best two players in the draft but neither should or will fall to us at 27. Those are the only two players I would move up to take should they entertain that thought.
Working on rounds two and three now.

The first is Siaki Ika from Oregon. He’s a big fat nasty DT at 6-4 358 lbs. He would immediately help the run defense. He also likes to get upfield and is pretty good at it. There is also a good chance he’s still in the board at 26, that’s about where being being projected.

They could also wait until the 2nd round and take Mazi Smith from Michigan. He’s also very big (6’3” 337 lbs) and would immediately help the run defense. He’s an extremely solid DT, an anchor (how he was described). His problem is he doesn’t hardly ever get upfield. He’s strictly a very good run defender.

Keondre Coburn (6’2” 344 lbs) from Texas in the 4th or 5th round is the other guy. From what I’ve been reading has 1st round talent but a 4th round motor. He doesn’t give it to you all the time.

I really love Mazi Smith. Do you think he will fall to us in round two? Many mocks have him early second round.

It’s hard to say, we will know a lot more after the Combine.

Yeah, I think he could sneak into the 2nd Round. Actually Pick #58 would be a logical landing spot for him.

Besides Jaylon Cater, who do you think is the best DT left. You know me and my DT's that I never get. I would think we are in a great spot to get one this year.

Mazi & Calijah Kancey are two of my favorites.

It really just depends on what type of IDL you're prioritizing.

Bryan Bresee will probably get picked before the Cowboys pick.

Are you looking for a NT? Siaki Ika is that guy. Mazi is a big dude himself. But a little slimmer. Maybe more scheme versatile.

Siaki was actually a little underwhelming for me on tape. PFF knocked his performance too.

If you're looking for someone who will get penetration & sacks. Calijah Kancey is your guy. He's smaller & quicker than most DT's (280lbs). But has the highest pressure rate of anyone in this class.

I like Siaki Ika. He does have a suspect motor. When engaged though he’s Vita Vea-esq. what will hurt him is he’s also like to only end up being a 2 down player like Jordan Davis in Philly.

With this in mind I would expect to see lots of screen passes and slants. This has me rethinking the RB position. Instead of a big guy to pair with Pollard they may be more inclined to go with a guy like Zach Evans from Ole Miss. He’s 5’11” and 213 lbs and is actually very similar to Pollard.

I don't like the idea of drafting CB or RB in the 1st round. Both those positions can be found later.

*SEE Trevon Diggs and Tony Pollard

I'd rather use our first on a large bodied DT. Those usually get snagged up quickly.

It's a very strong CB class. Might be as many as 5 guys that go in the 1st round. Which is why it's a topic for discussion. Also waiting to take one isn't necessarily the best strategy imo. CB is still a premium position.

Diggs was also a fairly high pick himself (2nd Round).

Robinson is the only true RB in this class that is a 1st round talent. But I generally agree about waiting to take one. You can always find one.

We need Bryan Bresee. Big bodied 300lb run stuffer to clog the middle.

He might not fall to us but maybe we trade up a few spots to get him.

More talk about Cowboys interest in taking Drew Sanders at the Senior Bowl practices. If we go LB, I have no problem at all taking Sanders. Love the kid actually. Being from Arkansas, Jerry will love that. Also Jerry got a hard on and blew his wad over TCU's QB Max Duggan. Jerry loves him apparently.
Also some talk and rumors at the Senior bowl regarding Dalton Schultz getting love from the Cardinals and Sean Payton wants Tony Pollard to be the next Alvin Kamara for the Broncos.

What do you love about him (Sanders)? Curious.

He'll probably go somewhere in the 2nd round. This is a fairly underwhelming LB class. Lacks top end talent. This isn't the year to reach for one in my opinion. I would probably give Sanders a 3rd round grade if I'm being honest.

Did you check out any of the names that I gave you?

He's the best Lb in the draft by far. Feel he is a perfect fit for our scheme. Big drop off after him and there are not a lot of LB's in this draft. On defense we need LB, DT and CB. I won't be upset if we go in one of the other areas of need, just saying if we go LB, He is the one for me. However I will admit there is a small few just above us that have a chance to fall down to us I wouldn't mind either.

Return to Dallas Cowboys
