No issue with Booker not getting voted in. He was an easy pick if he never got hurt. But since he will have missed almost 6 weeks+, he can't be part of it.
I imagine Lee or CamJo will be added to the 3pt shootout. If not, then I have a free weekend of no basketball as I could care less about anything else.

Book was 3rd in player ranking last season. 7th is his lowest ranking since 2017

I do wonder if the talk of OG commanding three draft picks is all smoke. Has a team ever gave that many picks to a player that’s never made the Allstar team and also never healthy? I don’t even think he will make the Allstar team in his career. I really hope it’s not the Suns who offers that many picks.

How can you say that it's common sense he's GMing for his job? I've been saying that for months and literally like virtually everyone, including yourself has told me that him and Monty are completely safe. Like it's me and Frank that have been the only guys in here complaining about those 2 for this season.
You can't seriously think that it's status quo to say that Monty and JJ are in jeopardy of losing their jobs?
Either way, hopefully JJ can make a good trade with Toronto. I think there's a lot there to be had.
Any time a new owner comes in he may make changes. I will be surprised if he moves on from Monty but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jones is no longer the GM, though I think if we get a new one he might just move in to a new role. It's already been announced Ishbia will have some people that will be involved in decision making and one might be the GM. I do think it's probably kind of decided in Ishbia's head though...and that he's not going to base it on a move before the deadline.
I will be a little surprised if he just fires Jones outright instead of just having him do more of a different role, maybe in part right after Sarver largely got ousted due to racism (not saying he's racist or that it would be racist but that it might not be the best look). He already has more than one title anyway I think.
Personally think JJ is safer than Monty. Coaches are generally the first to go when a team is underachieving. But neither are by safe safe when new management comes in. I see it in in business all the time. Even if you already have a good CEO or a good group of execs, they will always be one of the first on the firing line as new owners generally have their own guys or just want to run things differently. Neither JJ nor Monty are on that Coach Spo or RC Buford tier.
Since Ishbia is a former player, I actually don't think he will fire James Jones or Monty. I think he'll understand that that could destroy the team. Remember, James Jones is serving as GM and president of basketball operations, so I could see him being only the president of basketball operations while forgoing GM responsibilities.
I'm curious how many other owners played basketball at least at the college level? Jordan and Ishbia?

Can't believe the Pelicans have been playing so poorly. Lost 9 in a row, getting crushed tonight by Dallas (down 27 at the half), and they actually are only missing Zion. Ingram, Jones, JV, CJ and Trey Murphy started tonight, Nance, etc, off the bench. We are ahead of them right now.

Hard to believe. We mostly focus on the Suns struggles but other teams are having similar problems.
West remains wide open and that's why I really believe there will be a lot of trades coming. Maybe not huge ones, but there will be teams looking to bump themselves over the top

I do find that crazy as well. Our board would be going nuts to fire Monty Williams if that was us. Ironically, I read a ton here that they prefer Willie Green on Monty. Both are great coaches. I’m sure the Pelicans will figure it out.

I believe they were 3rd in the Western Conference before this 10 game slide. McCollum isn't a PG. They might be more desperate to get FVV than Anunoby
Heck they have the assets and contracts to get both of those players actually
Pels get -
FVV / Anunoby
Raptors get -
Graham
Hayes
Daniels
Lewis Jr
Murphy III
2023 Lakers 1st, 2025 Bucks 1st, 2025 Pelicans 1st, 2027 Bucks 1st
Would the Raptors say no to that?
Pels could trot out this lineup...
FVV / Alvarado
McCollum / Herbert Jones
Ingram / Temple
Anunoby / Larry Nance Jr
Zion / JV
IDK who they would start in this scenario, but the Pelicans can be a super dangerous team.

Not that I can recall. One of the best players to never make an all-star (so far) is CJ and he was traded for a package of youngish players, one 1st and Nance was part of that package too so Portland got even less than what Toronto is asking for with he 3 FRP.
The other guy that came to mind was Mike Conley who at the time of his trade from Memphis to Utah, he hadn't made an all-star team yet. Mem moved him for Grayson Allen, Darius Bazley, Crowder, Korver and two 1sts.

Yeah I'm not expecting Ishbia to come in like Ari Gold and fire everyone. Say what you want about this season but I just don't think it says a ton about how good (or bad) we actually are given how many injuries we've had to deal with so I would think he at the very least, would understand how injuries can impact a team. He'll take his time and evaluate what is and what isn't working and maybe make some moves in the offseason.

I think BW and my comment is more of a generalisation about new owners coming in and the natural expectation is they'll eventually have their own guys or run it their way so whatever contracts or agreements from the previous regimes will not worth as much as before.

Can we get a realistic poll? We know JJ doesn’t have the balls to do anything. We’ll trade crowder for Seth curry at best.
I just hope we keep saric. He’s still getting back into shape I feel like but he’s really a thick big body in the paint.

Done
For records, the last poll was 50/50 on trading CamJo + 1 pick, or not.

Re: 2022-23 Season Discussion and Speculation 4 - Trade season continues - No player trade restrictions
I'm just not into the idea of any (realistic) major moves at the deadline. Not really good enough to feel comfortable dealing this year's pick. And I think the unfortunate reality of this team is that we're really not doing anything for title odds unless we acquire someone who is at least better than Ayton/CP/Mikal. And even then it'd have to be a seamless fit and without gutting the on-court product.
It all depends on goals. Everyone disagrees about the best course of action because everyone has different goals in mind. If its title or bust, I really dont see the move that is worth mortgaging the future. If you just want to remain "good" but not great, then maybe you can look at an OG, Collins, FVV, etc. Siakam is someone I'd seriously think about depending on price, since that gives you multiple All NBA caliber players, but you still have work to do and need fortunate circumstances to be great.
Personally, I'm still staying conservative, move Crowder for anything resembling upside for the future. Maybe move Saric for a 2yr contract plus 2nd(s). Be on the lookout for CP moves that can get you future asset(s) (won't happen). Maybe you sneak into the lottery, have a good pick, and use the added flexibility of the off season to look more closely at a wider pool of major changes.
With that context (nothing crazy with an eye on next year since I dont think title contention is in the cards), been workshopping a big small deal. I think I like it all ways except maybe for Charlotte, but they could be easily cut out.
Pacers: send D Theis, J Johnson, SA '23 2nd for D Saric, D Reed
Pacers pay a good 2nd to get off the Theis contract.
Nuggets: send I Smith, D Reed, Z Nnaji for J Crowder
Nuggets sacrifice Nnaji to get a big wing for the playoffs and reduce the minutes of Jordan/Reed/Braun in the late rounds.
Hornets: send J McDaniels for J Landale, SA '23 2nd, PHX '24 2nd, PHX '26 2nd
Hornets avoid giving a pay raise to McDaniels and receive a similar return as Wiz for Hachimura for a similar level player.
Suns: send J Crowder, J Landale, D Saric, PHX '24 2nd, PHX '26 2nd for I Smith, Z Nnaji, J McDaniels, D Theis, J Johnson (route Johnson w/cash to SA to avoid roster cut)
Suns get off dead salary and move some 2nds for some low cost lottery tickets with some upside and a tradeable salary for next season.
Would have to throw some fake 2nds around to make it legal.

Not that I care about the ASG tbh but just want to note that JJJr has only played like 7 games more than Book so...

People still look at numbers as if averaging 20+ ppg is the same as doing it 10 years ago. It's not. So players are going to be left out. It's the way it is. Only 12 spots.
I would obviously like Book to play. But resting, in our current situation, might be better.

Could the Suns get Grant for the stretch run perhaps
Might be able to do an S&T this summer if need be
He'll be an unrestricted free agent though this summer and looking for a max! IF it didn't cost too much with both the Pels and Grizz distracted with Anunoby, I'd like to quietly submit a trade offer at the deadline and see IF we could possibly steal him. Then we can make a deep run with him and reassess if we'd like to resign him (If we're intending to move Ayton anyways in the summer for a cheaper option??
What about a four team trade
Milwaukee: Crowder
Portland: Beasley and Vanderbilt plus a protected FRP from Suns
Jazz: Nwora, Ibaka Hill and Saric and two seconds from the Bucks
Suns: Jerami Grant
the risk of course is that Grant doesn't go back to the Suns if he turned down 4/115 from the Blazers
