NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2022-23 (pt 3)
Time for round 3 of the Great RGM MVP Battle Thread!
Reminder: The poll is set up so you can change your vote as the players jockey for position throughout the season.
Previous poll ended with Jokic firmly in the lead. Luka, Giannis, Tatum and Embiid rounded out the Top 5.
It was not an easy decision but I've removed Zion and Mitchell from the main options this time. Zion hasn't been playing and Mitchell has been in the poll all year and just isn't getting votes. Taking their place this time are Bron and Curry. You can also vote "other," of course.
Have fun and please resist the urge to insult each other. This thread is just for fun and our votes/comments here don't actually change anything in real life.

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2022-23 (pt 3)
Like I said in the other thread, I think there are multiple guys having legit MVP worthy seasons. I think Embiid, Tatum, KD, Giannis, and Luka are all having legit MVP seasons. So Im all for fans of those guys and their teams to push them on here. Because ya all of those guys are playing legit out of their mind high quality basketball.
I just think its bad luck/timing for them because I think Jokic is having more than just a legit MVP worthy season. 1st place in the West by 4 games and still not playing with another all star level player. 1st in the vast majority of advanced metrics and on top of that he is currently staring at a 25ppg triple double while having a 70 TS%. He's taken it from having a legit MVP worthy season to a historically great season.

These last 30 games or so are going to be fascinating. We're seeing the primes of potentially 2-3 of the, what, 20 greatest players ever?

Didn't we see that in the 2010s with Curry/Durant/LeBron/CP3/Harden all being Top 30-35 guys with potentially all of Curry/Durant/CP3/LeBron being Top 20-caliber guys?
Didn't we see Kobe/Shaq/Dirk/Duncan/KG all from 2000-2004 be in their primes? All of which were Top 20 locks when they retired?
We are always going to be seeing 2-5 "Top 20 level" guys.

Yup its a hell of a time to enjoy watching basketball. We have the older guy in KD who has to be getting close to his last true elite year like this. But KD is a top 15-20 player at the end of his prime and he's having a great season (missed games aside).
Then you got the 3 guys who are in the middle of their prime with Jokic/Giannis/Embiid. And there is a good chance at least 2 of them end up top 20 and all 3 end up top 30 all time.
Then you got the young guys just kind of entering their prime years with Luka and Tatum.
Even if you have some of these guys on another tier as some other ones. There is no denying how great of basketball all 6 of these guys are playing right now.

Point taken, but I also happen to think Gianni and Jokic could end up Top 15 if not higher. Obviously, a lot of that depends on health and roster construction/organizational consistency, etc.

You have to be brain dead to have anyone ahead of Jokic at this point. Announcing something as such will make me think they’re trolling.
Note: I fully expect to see eyeatoma’s MVP List as follows:
1. Embiid
2. Tatum
3. Doncic
4. Giannis
5. KD
…
9. Jokic
Strike: Trolling/Baiting

Harden is ranked 7th in the nba.com but he can’t get a spot here? It’s unlikely he would win but his chances are no lower then Morant or Zion

There's an "other" option. I just wrote Harden's name there for you.
The NBA.com MVP ladder is different every week and I can't please everyone. There's a limit of 10 poll options.

Thanks bro. At this point I can’t see anyone catching Jokic, Embiid or Tatum. Giannis is coming again with his latest 50 points game salvos
1 Jokic
2 Embiid
3 Tatum
4 Giannis

2-3 might be an underestimate.
We may be witnessing up to more than 10 top 20 players in a season.
Curry/LeBron/KD/Giannis are already top 20 and still playing at high level
Jokic is already there in my view but one ring away from a lock
Luka if healthy is trending there
Embiid if not for healthy can definitely be in the conversation, his longevity is a serious concern
Tatum while I am not as high on his current level of play, is still getting better and may quickly have enough success
CP3, Kawhi, and Harden may be already close to top 20 form some, and they are still playing
Many uprising players as well, to say 1 or 2 may enter is not a stretch.

Take their memes as a compliment haha. I’d have been nowhere near this engaged on RGM if not for the back n forth trash talk with you! You’re a good alternate perspective and the “rivalry” keeps things interesting between fanbases!

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2022-23 (pt 3)
Speaking of the NBA.com MVP Ladder... I was paying a good amount of attention to it early in the season but at this point I'm pretty confused about why it's so different from week to week. Especially in the 5-10 spots, it's been players in and out like a revolving door.
If it was just "MVP of last week" it would make sense to me. But since it's supposed to be MVP of the entire season it seems really weird that there's so much change all the time. Like how can one week of games change everything that happened in the months before that?
It's like the writer is just making a bunch of changes all the time so his boss thinks he's doing something lol.
