Just the sheer amount of work that it will take negotiating to get the best possible offer for Kyrie between LAL, DAL and PHX (who was THE team KD wanted to go to btw so now that affects the KD market and could mean an expanded deal..). Not to mention BOS will no longer be a player when THEY were the ONLY team/package that the Nets endorsed as a worthy trade partner for Jaylen Brown so that’s now 2 of their best offers potentially gone or just more complex at minimum…but they’re gonna make that call with what little is left after a Kyrie move and you think they’re just gonna easily let go of everything now while they’re amongst the top in the East?! Lol

Those are massive decisions that you’re greatly underselling the time necessary, in order to sell yourself on the dream that we’re getting KD lol. This also not mentioning BKN had no interest in any package from us unless it included Scottie.

Nothing to organize, all the leg work was done over the summer. It was here or Phoenix, what's changed? Boston's not really in play at this time, they'd have to pay a lot to change that.

I think FVV in Phoenix makes a lot of sense but straight up for Ayton creates a hole to fill at C. Enter the Spurs.

Rap acquire:
Deandre Ayton

Suns acquire:
FVV
Jakob Poeltl

Spurs acquire:
Thad Young
Koloko
Suns 2023 FRP
Raps 2025 SRP

Suns get two huge additions that should improve both their PG and C position. Raps get their long-term C. Spurs get a first and plus Koloko and a SRP. Not a bad haul for Poeltl.

This is actually looks like a good deal for all involved parties. Suns get a good PG/combo guard to take a load off CP3 and a good center more likely to buy into being a team first player (but obviously doesn’t have the upside of Ayton). Raptors get their long term center. Spurs get what they were looking for - pretty much the equivalent of two first round picks (and quite possibly their future starting center.

The trade looks good but it would make more sense to replace FVV with Pascal in that trade. Can't have a frontline of Ayton-Barnes-Pascal.

Or.
Future bad contract, 2 x 2nd rounders and filler for a bad contract of a younger player.

I would rather overpay a younger Ayton than FVV. And for a team like the Raptors, fixating on not overpaying players and not using up our salary cap space is a little overrated. Sure it’s not good business sense to go into the luxury tax for a mediocre team but it’s not like we are attracting even half decent free agents to come here and take our money even if we had open cap space to work with. To attract anyone here even by chance, we have had to over-pay (talking about guys like Dermare Carrol, Jason Kapono, etc). To keep our guys here, we have had to overpay somewhat as well. Making good trades, nailing our draft picks, and internal player development, has been how we have stayed competitive.

I guess Ayton would be like the Hawks paying John Collins and trading him later.

The Knicks and Jazz have had exploratory conversations surrounding Obi Toppin, Evan Fournier, and draft pick compensation for Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt, league sources told HoopsHype.

As reported in a recent HoopsHype NBA notebook, Utah is seeking the equivalent of a first-round pick to acquire each player. In these particular trade talks, Toppin would potentially be that equivalent for Vanderbilt with Utah seeking a potential first-round pick for taking on Fournier’s salary ($18.86 million next season and $19 million team option for 2024-25) and parting with Beasley, who has a $16.5 million team option for next season. Thus far, New York has been reluctant to attach a first-round pick to move off Fournier’s salary.

Vanderbilt and Beasley have also been discussed as part of a trade package with the Atlanta Hawks for forward John Collins. The Suns have also expressed interest in trading for the duo.

Separately, the Portland Trail Blazers have emerged as a “strong suitor” for Vanderbilt, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Trail Blazers forward Nassir Little is a name to monitor in the trade talks, HoopsHype has learned.

Utah has also done due diligence on other wing players, including Dallas’ Dorian Finney-Smith and Charlotte’s Jalen McDaniels ahead of the deadline.

Indiana, who has had an interest in trading for Collins, has also expressed interest in trading for Vanderbilt, as HoopsHype recently reported.

That's a TERRIBLE return for us

nah, former number 1 pick at just 24 years old, 2-way player, 20/10 player under contract for years to come. Playoff perforner. It would be a great return. (I would try to keep Koloko )

Former Number 1 - yes

24 years old - yes

2-way player - is he? Suns are a -4.3 with him on the floor and +7.9 when he is off. Defense was better in 2021-22 when he was on the bench as well. That worries me a bit. Whenever I watch him I am not blown away by his defense either.

Playoff performer - He got ran off the floor by Dallas last year

Blake Murphy says history has shown that it's going to be quiet during the weekend of the nba trade deadline. Expect a flurry of trades Monday or Tuesday.

This may turn into a blessing in disguise with Phoenix, LA, Mavs all vying for Kyrie in the West. The two that miss out will be fighting with each other for Fred. So one team will get desperate to stay relevant in the west. Lakers will have Lebron demanding a trade and Mavs would have Luka demand one. So this scenario may make our return on Fred higher than initially thought because west will get even harder to compete in the playoffs.

Probably because Raps have told then their three picks are not enough compared to other offers

Return to Toronto Raptors
