Reminder: The poll is set up so you can change your vote as the players jockey for position throughout the season.

Previous poll ended with Jokic firmly in the lead. Luka, Giannis, Tatum and Embiid rounded out the Top 5.

It was not an easy decision but I've removed Zion and Mitchell from the main options this time. Zion hasn't been playing and Mitchell has been in the poll all year and just isn't getting votes. Taking their place this time are Bron and Curry. You can also vote "other," of course.

Have fun and please resist the urge to insult each other. This thread is just for fun and our votes/comments here don't actually change anything in real life.

Harden is ranked 7th in the nba.com but he can’t get a spot here? It’s unlikely he would win but his chances are no lower then Morant or Zion

he has zero chances, with Embiid in his team

bisme37 wrote:Speaking of the NBA.com MVP Ladder... I was paying a good amount of attention to it early in the season but at this point I'm pretty confused about why it's so different from week to week. Especially in the 5-10 spots, it's been players in and out like a revolving door.

If it was just "MVP of last week" it would make sense to me. But since it's supposed to be MVP of the entire season it seems really weird that there's so much change all the time. Like how can one week of games change everything that happened in the months before that?

It's like the writer is just making a bunch of changes all the time so his boss thinks he's doing something lol.

This has been annoying me for years with the MVP ladder on nba.com. With that big of a sample size it doesn't make any sense that a player climbs or falls more than at most 2 spots within a week (and even for two spots something really extraordinary would have to have happened).

If it changes that much at this point of the season either last weeks ladder was garbage or this weeks ladder is. Or both. Both can't be a good assessment at the same time.

To all those who still think Doncic is just Harden 2.0

that's what 2.0 means tho..he's an improved version of 1.0 :P

Harden did only do one of a few things, but Luka is using the Harden tempelate (still mainly doing those 4 things) while also adding a ton of more variety (that's the 2.0 part)

besides, 2.0 implies an improved version
Harden was MVP and MVP caliber for years..a 2.0 version of an MVP is not a knock on anyone haha, that's a damn good player

This needs to be pinned at the top of the forum. Anytime someone makes a foolish comment about Jokic not having a title, they should be forced to spend 30 seconds viewing the graphic, then clicking a checkmark that they understand how stupid their comment was. :D

to me the most crazy thing is that two years ago the Nuggest won a playoff series, in the 2020s, with a starting backcourt of Austin Rivers (who was on a 10 day contract a few months earlier) and Facundo Campazzo (5-10 31yo rookie who couldn't shoot).
Not sure if people realize the magnitude of that.

I agree that he is more versatile than Harden but the fact that he is improving as the series goes on is false imo. Maybe if it's his first round yes it's possible but the more playoff games he will play playoff hero ball the more tired he will get and in the end his body will collapse especially in the second half or in the 4th quarters of his second or his third round.

Having an epic 1st round is not rare. Doing it from the beginning till the finals is extremely rare.

Also his roster being total crap and not being able to score is not true. This season he has two players averaging +18 PPG on +60% TS. That's not a joke. Last season he had Brunson and Dinwiddie who proved they were able to beat Utah by themselves.

A superstar player drags his bad supporting cast to the playoffs. I'm sorry but I don't find that thát impressive, that is why he's a superstar. Didn't Westbrook do the same a couple of years back? Now if he were to drag them to the Conference Finals or Finals then you got a great argument for whichever it was that you were trying to make.

I think thats the argument he is making. Some people bring up a lack of playoff success and a lack of rings on why Jokic shouldnt win his 3rd MVP. The point is no one should expect to win rings with that kind of supporting cast in the playoffs. The one time he got help and had a teammate that played like another star player, Jokic made it to the Conference Finals.

Still Luka for me, then Jokic and no one else in the race at the moment.

But there are several players that are doing incredible things this season. A+

the team Russ had in 2017 was actually significantly better than that, even if far from a perfect cast.
Just look at the seasons Domas and Dipo had the year after in Indiana.
But I agree there's not too much to celebrate Jokic for making the playoffs im 2022 and losing to the Warriors, but I don't think ANYONE in history was going to win that serie with those teammates.

Harden now has shown he is also one of the best if not the best passer and playmakers in the nba. Personally for me Jokic is still the best passer but I think harden is second only to him . Plus now harden is using his midrange game regularly to great effect.

Come on Ben Simmons has to be up there, his PER36 assists and rebounds are among his career bests.

During James Harden's legendary 3-year stretch (2017/18 - 2019/20) he avg 36 mpg, and missed on avg. 6 games a season, while avg. 33 ppg. The Rockets were among the best teams in the league during that stretch.

Luka's certainly playing the same amount of minutes, but he's missing way more games. The most amount of games he's played is 72 (rookie year). He doesn't have Harden's durability because he's nowhere near the same shape Harden was.

Granted, Harden was in his prime during that stretch and Luka's just entering his prime. Until he's able to do what Harden did, he shouldn't be compared.

A center now leads the NBA in total assists. I know a lot of other guys have missed games, but that's just another reason Jokic is MVP. More assists than Doncic.
