Our fan base has a weird complex where they want former players from a worse time to come back to the team every trade deadline.

The Nets are still a good team and KD would be smart to stay. This is now firmly his team and is built to his strengths. Good size & defense and some shooting around him. I think he could take them to the Finals and give his legacy a big boost.

KD has no team, he has tried to jump ship to the best team possible every time, his legacy is tarnished and nothing he does matters anymore.

People said the same thing about Lebron after the Finals collapse vs the Mavs but then reset the whole narrative by beating the Warriors.

Lebron beat a bigger superteam than his team, that's what it was about. KD only won when his team was the biggest superteam in the history.

When's the last time a team won a championship with an in-season trade of a star?

I think Dallas is probably top-3 worst 'fandom' fits for Kyrie TBH. Trailing only a return to Boston and Utah. You put a guy who has both caused racist controversies, and been the target of racism on a franchise where the best players for the past 2 decades were white unicorn superstars...

Durant might be too emotional to think about it from a basketball perspective and might just be adamant about leaving based on the principle of the matter.

Besides, earlier in the season he already had that "what do you expect me to do with this group" tweet disparaging his non-star peers. I doubt he wants to commit to an entire reality of him being a lone star. Especially now that his team-carrying days are over.

It’s been a long time

Detroit with Rasheed Wallace in 2004
Clyde Drexel in 1995
Mark aguirre pistons in 1989.

So it can happen.

Weren't all of those teams 1 seeds at the time of the trade?

Dallas is 2 games over .500 and have the 24th ranked defense. They are virtually 0% chance of winning the title this year.

I don't disagree that they were up against the wall, but solid players don't win titles, multiple elite players do.

Durant came to Brooklyn to form his own 'super team', and it exploded in his face. That place is about to implode yet again.

I don't think they are good enough to get pass the second round at best.

They have shooting but their defense still depend on playing Ben and Claxton together which becomes a bigger problem without Kyrie.

They don't have any half-court offense outside of KD/Dinwiddie isos now.

Without Ben they've still got a pretty damn good defensive lineup they can put on the floor with Dinwiddie, O'Neale, DFS, KD, Claxton.

Still no Halfcourt creation outside of ISOs tho.

That team also has no good answer for bigs like Joel or Giannis unless you collapse on them.

Drexler is the best example there, as the Pistons were already an established title contender with Dantley, and Wallace was more of a finishing piece on that Detroit team.

Good move for Mavs. Feel like they needed to pair Doncic with a star badly. Maybe not the most reliable, but not easy to do and at least he's super talented.

Nets were put in a bad spot. Not sure what their next move is. Feel like it's only matter of time before KD forces his way out and not sure if they have enough to contend.

Yeah, I don't think KD has enough help offensively. And those guys are definitely problems for them.

I wonder if they'll try to make another move in the next week to bring in someone else.

If DeRozan ends up on the market that would be an interesting landing spot now.

I don’t think Dallas wins the title, but the West is wide open. If they could make one more trade for some front court help… they have the firepower now to win it. A Finals appearance certainly doesn’t hurt their chances of keeping Luka long term.
