Re: Durant has to be available now, right?
It seems the Wizards draft picks are encumbered so they can't' really do anything until the offseason. If they want something done now, they will have to get creative. Maybe they could add a player like Deni Avdij and take a salary back that the Nets don't want or somehow get a third team involved to make the trade make more sense.
Magee I feel like your trade below makes sense and has a chance to happen, or at least some variation of it.
"Durant, Joe Harris, Patty Mills, maybe Cam Thomas, too, the rights to Christian Drejer and a second round pick, for Jamal Murray, MPJ, Bones Hyland, Two First Rounders and One Pick Swap.
Two sticking points: Nic Claxton and the rights to Ismael Kamegate."
It would be something to see Durant and the Joker together making a run at an NBA title for the next 4 years. Also the Nets still get a strong return to stay in playoff contention and keep building the team for the future"
I feel the Warriors and Kings could also put together a good package. The Suns are reportedly interested too. Also, could the Lakers really Interest the Nets with their expiring contracts and first round draft picks? It might be tough for them to pull it off, but you never know. It seems like New Orleans will give it a shot to and put Ingram in the mix too.
Let's see what happens.

If they were in a win-now mode, I think they should have just kept Kyrie until the end of this season and let him leave for free.

exactly; Nets was a nobody organization before; it was Kyrie who make them good, first signing himself and then bringing KD; Kyrie should be so p!ssed at Nets for doing them so many favors and in return getting disrespected again and again
Favors? He signed a 4 year 136.5 million dollar deal to go there. Then he caused outside distractions and has had injury issues too.
His games played since joining the Nets are:
2019-20: 20
2020-21: 54
2021-22: 29
2022-23: 40
He was never a good business partner with them.

Re: Durant has to be available now, right?
This is a huge opportunity for Durant if he stays.
We all know he cares deeply about his legacy. If he can win a Championship with this group, in most people's minds it would elevate him to somewhere between a Dirk and even the Hakeem type tier. It would for me anyway, and I've detested the guy and haven't respected his championships before this. But if he can win one with this Nets team, it would be hard to deny his greatness.

Re: Durant has to be available now, right?
I think it depends if the nets make any other moves and how the rest of the season and offseason shakes out. I think its very premature to think Durant is getting traded tomorrow. I'd say if by next offseason the nets haven't upgraded the roster he'll probably demand another trade and this time they'd probably give into it.
There are huge differences between Kyrie and Durant situation, the nets wanted Kyrie gone and he had half a year on his contract
The nets want to keep Durant and he has 3.5 years on his contract.

It might make sense to trade Durant in the off season because at that point the team can basically start over.
Right now they might as well see how far they can go this year.

2029 is the earliest pick that Denver can trade. That means if the Nets want picks it'd be 2029 and beyond. Probably too far out for them to make a deal with the Nuggets (plus the Nets already have one 2029 pick that they just got from the Mavs).

They could remove the protections off the other picks owed so they could trade 2027 and 2029 picks

Remove protections off the pick to Orlando (2025)...? Why?
It still means they can't trade a pick until two years later (Stepien Rule). And still owe a pick to OKC in 2027.

Re: Durant has to be available now, right?
Durant isn't going to ask for a trade till the season ends because he knows they are not trading him. Remember what happened over the summer. Same thing will happen if he asks for a trade now. Only way they trade him is if they plan on rebuilding after the Kyrie trade. I don't see it though and Brooklyn is likely going to make more moves but KD is likely staying put. I would be shocked if he is traded by the trade deadline to Phoenix (it was his preferred trade destination over the summer).

I agree. They better be looking to trade for a guy who can actually help Durant score. Otherwise, they're looking at another first round sweep IMO. They have nice role players and much better depth now, but they only have one scoring option.
Pg: Dinwiddie / Mills
Sg: Simmons / Curry
Sf: Durant / Thomas / Harris
Pf: DFS / O'Neal / Warren
Cc: Claxton /
If you collapse on Durant, who's really hurting you when it counts? Dinwiddie is the only option, and he's just sorta meh...
DFS is not a power forward …

Murray and MPJ for Durant always seemed like the move for both teams to me. Durant and Jokic is a monster duo ready to contend now. ... If you plan to keep Simmons, Murray and Porter seem like great fits on a similar age group and timeline, and makes it so they actually have a young core to build around, since those picks are gone and you can't tank.
But I think the Nets can't take MPJ since Simmons is on the roster.

I doubt Durant request a trade. Nets can try to find another allstar to pair with him with the picks they got plus ONeal, Curry, and some other players.

As I said on page 1... I don't think the Nets move KD until the draft. They'll play out this year in a last ditch attempt to convince him to stay and then ultimately move him when it becomes apparent they don't have the firepower anymore.
Moving KD at the draft also let's them get a pick or two with known value and get guys they are legitimately interested in developing...

Murray and MPJ is too much for only 2 and half years of KD.

It seems like that's how it'll play out.
I wonder what lottery teams would be interested in Durant and how high of a pick they could get? Raptors or Washington? Right now they sit at 7 and 8.
