It’s been a long time

Detroit with Rasheed Wallace in 2004
Clyde Drexel in 1995
Mark aguirre pistons in 1989.

So it can happen.

Weren't all of those teams 1 seeds at the time of the trade?

Dallas is 2 games over .500 and have the 24th ranked defense. They are virtually 0% chance of winning the title this year.

Pacers were the best team in the east that season. Reggie Miller was a shell of himself and near the end. But they were 60 plus wins in 2003-2004. Best team. Unfortunately weren’t healthy facing pistons. We all know what happen at the beginning of 2004-2005 season with the malice in the palace with Ron Artest fight that ruin Reggie Miller last season.

1994-1995 Rockets were defending champs but 6 seed. But had Hakeem and he schooled David Robinson the mvp in the playoffs.

1988-1989 pistons were the best team though. They should have won the 1988 nba title except the lakers got super lucky due to pistons inexperienced and lakers barely scrapped by. Isaiah Thomas was injured also that series.

2019 Raptors traded for Marc Gasol at the deadline. Perhaps he wasn't a star anymore, but he was a big reason they got over the hump.

I want Vanderbilt

gives us a wing defender, a small ball 5 option, can play with Jo, adds youth and athleticism

checks a lot of boxes

Pretty sure Kobble is right though. I'm not even considering it a possibility.

Correct, good point. Especially if it’s not a player I like.

They also should have gotten to the Finals in '87, but freak stuff prevented it. First, Isaiah throwing away game 5 after Rodman rejected Bird, then Vinnie and AD knocked out of the game colliding heads in the 4th quarter of game 7. The Pistons were better that year, but in typical Celtics fashion, weird schiit happened in that old dump.

At this point I’d say we’re desperate for a competent backup center. Reed ain’t ready and Harrell’s D is atrocious.

Tonight was confusing because this should have been Harrell's show against the Knicks. Perhaps they were getting a last look at Reed before deciding if we really need to make a move at the deadline. I think they've got their answer. Reed is unreliable and Harrell is strictly a matchup based play.

I’m sold what’s the going price for Okongwu? I like him a lot. He’s basically a smaller but always switched on Embiid on defence. Great positional understanding

It’s basically if Reed knew how to NBA.

Everyone and their mother need a back up center right now, the Nets need size, the Nuggets are using Jeff Green as a back up, the Kings have their entire offense designed around Sabonis, the Heat need a real back up for Bam and are shooping Deadmon, etc.

I think it's gonna be difficult to compete on the market because teams are gonna overpaid for some guys.

The Mavs and the Nets trying to upgrade their roasters also is gonna increase the price for players. Morey is gonna need a lot of manuvering to get someone useful.

Hawks value him as high as Capela and John Collins and is looking at Okongwu to replace one of those guys

Need to trade Maxey and Tobias for KD + Patty Mills.

PG - Harden/Shake
SG - Melton/Mills
SF - Durant/Thybulle
PF - Tucker/Niang
C - Embiid/Harrell

2 superstars and a legit all-star calibre player (Harden) is arguably the most talented team in the league. KD is a straight up G, even at age 34, and still has a few more years left of elite basketball.

Would suck to lose Maxey, but he doesn't really fit the timeline with the roster, and his ceiling is probably a low-end all-star anyway. Tobias is a solid starter but isn't really needed in a lineup where we have 3 guys who can score 30+ PPG on any given night.

I don't think we need to make some major trade right now. A small one to upgrade the bench and give us depth is really all we should be looking at. IF...We can't get something done, it's not the end of the world. Our playoff success is in the hands of Embiid anyway. The Nets traded away Irving, Boston looks mortal, Milwaukee is right on our level, Miami is beatable this year. Those are the 4 teams we need to get by to get to the Finals and I think we've got a 50/50 chance at doing it. There is no clear cut dominant team in the league this year and I don't think we're scared of any team out west. We need to be focused and injury free come playoff time and I think we can make a run. Embiid being healthy has always been our achilles.
If we can swing a trade for a rotational big man that can guard a couple different positions on the floor, it's only going to benefit us. With that said, I don't even want to give up Thybulle unless Danuel House is ready to get in there and give us something other than step back fall away three point shots. Come playoff time, the rotation is going to shrink anyway. We're not even going to see Shake, I think Niang will be phased out as well unless he's hitting from three. It would be nice to add some athleticism to this roster as we do look slow and even old at times. I expect Morey to get something done, it just may not be what all of us want.
