I think Trent continues to be a safe bet to remain. Assuming that agent and front office have spoken and that Trent is cool with a number in the low 20's, I think you absolutely re-sign him.
Now if OG's issue is only about getting more touches and not having to point out to Nurse in hotel hallways that Fred isn't letting other guys bring up the ball, we can solve that by trading Fred.... and Siakam.
Selling high on both, we could theoretically reset the team culture around Scottie, OG, Trent, and Achiuwa and round out the roster to our liking with the trade returns. Shipping out Fred and Siakam would also shatter the existing sacrosanct pecking order, totally resetting it for an offense revolving around Scottie. We'd have that young core and a wealth of assets and picks to build upon going forward.
The tale going round is that OG is looking to get his extra touches elsewhere, but at this point I'm super curious about just how impactful the player disgruntlement issues may be and how it may determine who must leave. If not for those stories of his disgruntlement, there'd really be no reason to trade OG right now.
To me the idea that OG wants to be moved because he wants more touches doesn't make sense. The teams that would trade for him most likely have better offensive weapons than the Raptors do and OG would be in a much more apparent 3+D role. I stand by my take that he's not happy with how this offense is run rather than specifically more touches, and as you said, you solve that by trading our two ball stoppers. You can kind of live with GTJ as he's more of a 6th man mindset and he has at time shown willingness to pass when the whole team does it.
Makes total sense.
As we all are familiar with...the idea that the grass is always greener on the other side...
OG's a 4th or 5th option on offence...on this team...and rightfully so. Until Fred and Pascal are moved...they are your first and second options. Scottie should be looking for his. Gary is always looking for his. OG gets left with the sloppy seconds after those other guys eat.
THAT SAID...OG is at best a #3 option. He's Ron Artest. He has no business getting the most shots on any team. He'll hit open 3s. He'll finish around the basket and he might occasionally get a step back mid-range jumper.
It's Jerami Grant when he left Denver...he thought he was better than being 4th option in Denver...so he left a great situation to be the first option in Detroit. He probably understands better what his role is now...but he needed to see how good he could be.
OG and Mikal Bridges at this point are the same kind of player in the same kind of role. Bridges accepts and plays the part perfectly. OG wants more. We will see where he ends up and if he truly is happier.
