(bumped old thread from 2023) TOR-IND-LAL :: Raptors look to go younger

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Tue Feb 7, 2023 7:18 pm

Raptors get Westbrook, Theis, CLE23FRP, IND23FRP, IND26FRP, IND28FRP, LAL27FRP, LAL26swap, IND27swap
Raptors give FVV, Siakam

Raptors get a pick haul while keeping GTJ, OG, Barnes, Achiuwa to build a future around. Westbrook expiring gives them capspace to renegotiate and extend OG next season.

Pacers get Siakam
Pacers give Hield, Theis, CLE23FRP, IND23FRP, IND26FRP, IND28FRP, IND27swap

Hali, Nembhard, Nesmith, Siakam, Turner
McConnell, Mathurin, Duarte, Smith, Jackson

Pacers get a roster to try contend with this season. Siakam is a great for with their squad.

Lakers get FVV, Hield
Lakers give Westbrook, LAL27FRP, LAL26swap

FVV, Hield, Rui, LeBron, Davis
Schroeder, Bev, Reaves, Gabriel, Bryant

Lakers get guard upgrades with more shooting.

Pacers are happy with Hield and I hope are unwilling to give up this many picks.

Have to think the Lakers easily owe another pick here.

FVV + Hield?

Hield is close to be an expiring contract, making under 20 million next year. He's the ideal compliment to Lebron/AD, and having one of his best seasons to date looking engaged again.

Or do the salaries still work for Indiana if they replace Hield with TJ + Goga? Imagine Hield has significant value to Indiana if they are pushing to win now.

I'm not opposed in principle; but I'd like to haggle on the picks. I proposed (before the Turner extension) something like Theis, Isaiah Jackson, IND 2023, CLE 2023, BOS 2023, IND 2025, IND 2027, so I'm pretty much on board with the concept.

But with Turner's extension, Hield would have to be the outgoing as we don't have cap space anymore, and frankly Hield is worth a 1st by himself.

Hield, Theis, CLE 2023 1st, BOS 2023 1st, IND 2025 1st, IND 2027 1st, IND 2026 swap option

I can not imagine the Pacers trading away so many picks. It's just not going to happen.

TJ also has significant value to the Pacers in a playoff push. trading Hield or TJ would be a move to the lottery - and that could be the right direction.

important note: despite the Pacers recent slide, they have started to sell out the fieldhouse. trading fan favorites could cost ticket revenue. we're not like the big city teams who sell out completely with season tickets.

I hear you, but have to imagine fans would be more likely to attend if they traded TJ for Siakam. Just my thought. We are talking about losing a backup point guard for an arguable top 20-30 guy. And you still have Hali/Nembhard running point.

It would without a doubt lead to more wins. Kings traded fan favorite drafted Haliburton for Sabonis. Last year our attendance was 82%, this year now that we are winning our attendance has shot up to 97%.

I think it’s a bit wild to be making an all in type trade for the Pacers when it’s February and they’re tied for 10th/11th in the East, and 7th in the draft lottery at this moment.

Maybe too soon for an all in type trade on a nearly 29 year old player with a year remaining after this one?

Yeah, I like the fit and I think Pacers would lock in to top 6 after this trade.

But might be too early. Just an opportunity presenting itself

and the same could be said for the Raptors. we both have to decide whether we want to go up or down or just play out the hand we've been dealt.

Pacers need to hang on to their own 23 FRP

The pick is #7 now, with a decent chance of moving up into the top 4

Siakam is a great player, but it would still be way too risky, and a little bit foolish, for Pacers to give up their FRP for him

So let me get this straight. Kyrie just went for Dinwiddie, DFS, and a 29 1st and Pascal who has just one extra year on his deal is worth 4 1st rd draft picks and Hield. Indy should not be entertaining that at all, especially including the 23 1st.

Indiana 25-30 Net margin -2.2
Toronto 25-30 Net margin +0.6

I can see an argument for either team to sell assets if the haul is big enough

I can't see any argument for either team to trade away FRPs
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Oh. Yeah, I think that this team would lock into a 7-10 seed, and look to have to deal off Siakam next year (for less than we’re paying for here?). It definitely makes an interesting starting 5, but leaves the team with almost nothing behind it, and gives up most of the trade flexibility to fix those problems. I think it’s a team that might be plus 10 with the starters, and minus 20 with the bench?

Hali’s injury ruined this idea IMO.

I’m not chasing the play-in this season for Indy.

And I really loved them this idea for them 2 months ago or so.

I think any trade for siakam would come with an agreement that he would extend this offseason? He is not going to make all nba so supermax is not an option anymore. Indy has more than enough payroll space to afford his extension

Raps pass... We can't deal both Siakam & FVV without receiving (young) players back, relying solely on future picks is too much of a crapshoot and just further delays the rebuild because you have to take into account the years to develop said picks, as well

Why would we assume that players will agree to extend, sight unseen, with a team they’ve not played for, all while heading toward unrestricted free agency for the first time in their career?

He gets paid more with the 5 year 8 percent raise? Indy's also a great fit with Hali and stretch 5 in Turner. I guess my comment is more so that Indy wouldnt/shouldnt do OP unless they can get siakam to agree to an extension in offseason. If they can though then it could be worth it.

He’ll get paid a TON of money either way. We don’t think that he’ll want to consider unrestricted free agency just once in his career? Especially in his prime? I just think Indy can’t take the risk. Indy management has been clear that if Turner didn’t extend, they were going to trade him.
