I understand why people believe this, but I think it goes to the underappreciation of Monte Morris' game. He is exactly what we should be looking for at PG.

Per36, he gives 13.3/6.9a:1.2t as a starter this year.
Per36, DLo gives 19.6/6.8a:3.0t as a starter this year.

Yes, there's a scoring drop. But we also need to factor in the return of Towns along with the continued development of guys like Jaden. DLo won't stay at that scoring pace, but those turnovers will stay. Morris is always up there in the realm of Tyus Jones in terms of assists-to-turnovers. The scoring rate isn't far off either (a couple points more for Tyus).

Russell for Davis, run a lineup of Ant/Jaden/AD/KAT/Gobert

well..based on Sham's tweet, idea seems to be DLo to Lakers, Conley to Wolves & probably Westbrook to Jazz

I don't like it..

Here’s the actual Woj quote.

“One player that they talked about in the past, and are engaged with again today - D’Angelo Russell in Minnesota. They have had conversations of perhaps a multi-team trade that would potentially land them Russell. They have certainly been in that point guard market, and there are others with interest in Russell, and I think Minnesota is a team that’s not going to easily give him up. He has played well for them, and they have talked about an extension with him in the last couple months, perhaps a short extension, but this is a player who, I think there is going to be further conversation about.

The idea of bringing back D’Angelo Russell, who of course started his career with the Lakers, is a conversation that has been going on today, I’m told.”

14.3 million of that is fully guaranteed. The other 10 million becomes fully guaranteed 48 hours after the 2023 NBA Draft.

One positive thing about exchanging Conley with DLo is that Wolves have decent cap space until next season and that's when Conley's contract expires...unlike the situation with DLo where DLo might be preferring a longer and bigger contract this off-season and Wolves might be hesitant to commit due to max contracts of KAT, Gobert, Ant (incoming) and also Jaden's contract next off-season.

Are we so scared about DLo walking in free agency that we’d downgrade to Mike Conley and his $20 mil salary next year?

I get that he already knows how to feed Gobert, but he’s older and I think he could fall off a production cliff at anytime.

I haven't watched Conley/Jazz much this season..so not sure how he is playing but atleast before this season, Conley was generally viewed as better player than DLo..so maybe FO thinks it's not a significant downgrade and might also guarantee having him for another year next season..I personally am not fully sure due to Conley's age and also his injury history

It’s a chance to see how Ant looks next to a better defending and passing point guard.

I actually kind of like the trade. DLo is obviously the superior scorer and there are nights where we will miss that. On the flip side though, Conley is a better defender and a better playmaker and he plays smart, which this teams needs with how many dumb mistakes they make. Plus Conley has played with Gobert before and knows how to actually utilize him in the rare areas Gobert should be found for an easy bucket.

THT might be an interesting young value play. Still just 22.

so what happens if we waive him before the draft ? That 14.3M will still be considered like dead cap right ?

Conley's age is a concern tbh..he is at an age where players fall off cliff quickly and he also always had some injury issues
