Great trade for the Raptors. They finally got legitimate 5 man who can play on both ends with size.

What a great trade!

I predict a flurry of Raptor moves now.

Poeltl is the beasty-boy defensive big the 6 has been lacking

Yes, it cost a first and two seconds, still it is trade that has combined and increased the net value of the team. Don't be too shocked if he isn't flipped for Claxton or Turner or someone, but I don't think so.

These guys drafted him long ago and had to give him up to get the chip
... and now he's coming home. 8-)

Woah... I didn't know we got trades announced this late.

Also... what the hell do the Raptors want with a contract year Poeltl? Lol.

A decent Center in the middle of his prime but has FT shooting issues so you can't play him late... doesn't seem to fit the mold of what they should be looking for.

Unless they've decided with contract years FVV and their SG they're trying to make the playoffs???

Isn't this just another player the Raptors will lose for nothing in free agency?

This only makes sense to me if the Raptors are buyers this trade season. I wouldn’t be if I were them but best of luck.

It's been awhile since the Raptors had a center.

I wonder if this means they're no longer sellers...? I looked up the standings and Toronto is 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Nice guy that is becoming less and less playable in this era.

Strangely had a decent stroke in his first Toronto stint and now is horrible from the FT line and anywhere else but a dunk.

Also often goes up soft, ala Tiago Splitter then randomly throws down a beast dunk. Go figure.

Good defender though, reads plays well for blocks and deters shots as well.

Wish him well.

Even after this trade I'm sure unclear what the Raptors plan is for the season. Still a play in team even with Poetl, so does this mean more trades incoming to clear talent/capsapce?

We're going for the play in baby. 10th seed, here we come lol.

Seriously though, I couldn't watch our team be so damn soft inside. Happy to have someone that can rebound and block shots at an NBA level.

Welcome back Jacob!

I know ... it's not like he's probably finishing games ... but that's 30 minutes of ridiculously good low-post defense with solid (but not elite) rim protection. Most relevantly, he's mobile enough to cover lots of guys on the perimeter. Don't forget he sets hard screens and is bulky enough that he can stand up to (though probably not fully shut down) the likes of Embiid, Giannis, Lopez and the Joker. He's a great pairing with Koloko as our "traditional center".

This guy also rocks the offensive boards, can finish lobs from Scottie and is an expanding playmaker. Downside is his shooting including not the best free throw rate.

Good fit but it seems like they paid a little too much
Kids played football, drove cars, went to school, celebrated life; while soldiers, heroes, their brothers struggled to find their way home from war; and young boys watched and grew wiser in their dreams.

Is Poeltl really worth that much? I don’t tune into many Spurs games but the times I’ve seen him he’s looked average at best

Decent trade for the Raptors depending on the pick protections.

Do we know what the protections are on the pick?
Depending on that, and what it turns into if not conveyed, it could be quite a steal actually.
I was hoping for Boston's pick and Pritchard, which is potentially more valuable than this depending on those protections.
