Poll - Yak deal. Good or bad. Top 6 protected 2024-26

Post#1 » by Thaddy » Thu Feb 9, 2023 3:25 pm

Birch was a +3.6 on-off. +3.6 OnCourt.
Koloko is a +10.9 on-off. +8.6 OnCourt.

We are a borderline lottery team with a scrub and 2nd rounder as our primary centers. Poeltl has approximately been a +10 plus/minus player when the Spurs weren't a complete tank job.

We aren't going to convey a lottery pick next season. We will finish in the top 6 or the play in this year, and add depth plus another year of development for Barnes, Achiuwa, Banton, and Koloko. OPJ is back next season. We cannot be worse unless there is a talent shift back into the East. It's a good deal. Vote abysmal if you didn't read this post and you are an emotional teenager.

MLSE only cares about playoff money. If we magically become a contender in the future that’s the cherry on top.

I don't get it. What's the strategy here? Do management really feel like this core is competitive or can grow into something competitive?

At this point, let's see how much we re-sign Poeltl.

If we outbid ourselves and give him that +$20 million that he wants, this is brutal.

It's bad because of the light protection on pick. The only reason it's not abysmal is because we gave up Khem Birch and nothing from our core.

Strictly playoffs revenue. As long as we get at least 2 playoff games per year we are golden!

It's so bad, he couldn't even spell it correctly. LOL
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Value Wise, I think its a fair deal. The question mark is does Yak fit into any long term Raptors plans?

It's abyssal because it leaves a dark void in our hearts about the direction of this team?

You stay competitive while accumulating assets until you have enough to swing for a star ala 2019

We simply do not tank, this is not how we roll.

I don't like this. Light protection on the 2024 pick after our team has been incredibly meh this year. Losing a 38th-45th second rounder that could have added depth to our much needed bench.

They MUST have a silent shake hand agreement with Poeltl that he's resigning.

There is 0 doubt that Poeltl has already agreed to re sign

Well they have bird rights so I am sure they will pay the man his money. Should they spend a large portion of their cap on Purtle? probably not.

I sort of get it, but I would have thought that part of that strategy is accumulating and developing young talent, and hoping that, even if you don't tank and get high draft picks, you get good or better players from good drafting.

I mean, I still trust Masai and Bobby know what theyre doing, of course, and I do think draft picks can be overvalued, but it definitely feels like our ceiling this year is homecourt play-in. At best.
