Once Brad fills the empty roster slot with a wing, our roster will be 14 guys who can shoot 3s, plus Rob Williams.

https://www.si.com/nba/thunder/.amp/news/al-horford-and-mike-muscalas-impact-will-be-felt-in-okc-for-years-to-come

Checks many boxes

• solid big
• admired veteran and great locker room presence
• doesn’t complain about PT and role
• teammate of Horford in ATL and OKC
• Stevens type of player
• good shooter
• comes cheap, salary and trade cost
• has a team option

Is he unequivocally better than Kornet?

not my favorite player but potentially useful. Talked myself into it being a GOOD move until I read about two seconds being included -- was hoping those would help land us a bigger fish, but as is I'll just adjust from "GOOD move" to "fine move."

And weird as this sounds, he actually might help preserve Blake for the playoffs? (where, no doubt, he could continue to play over him as well -- we'll see)

There are currently 68 players who make 38%+ on at least three 3PAs per game. Celtics now have six of them.

If he us as good as Kornet it is a win. Kornet is a rotation player for us.

I mean that speaks to the poor GMing job Stevens has done at C this year, not so much of it being a win so I'm not giving bonus points for poor performance here.

But for 2 seconds I'd suspect this is someone Stevens is certain is at the very least is a clear upgrade over Kornet for us.

Seems like Stevens went out and said... you know what this team needs... Gallo but he's still broken huh.. hmm well here's the closest thing I can get to a poor man's Gallo for less than 1rst round price. And here he is.

If he isn't better than Kornet than I suspect he isn't much Value Over Replacement for anyone we could have just signed for free without costing us second rounders after the trade deadline this week.

Very much so yes. Good depth piece and should allow them to be more comfortable with resting Al and/or Timelord down the stretch.

Not a huge fan of mike he’s like a broke boy version of mehmet okur but considering it’s basically him or all star wing Justin Jackson i mean why not.

He is a better shooter than Kornet. I am under the impression that Kornet is very much the better player in other areas, but maybe he'll prove me wrong.

We generated a new trade exception? Or that was OKC. We get a tradeable contract come the offseason, I guess.

He’s another guy whose shot former Hawks/Bucks assistant coach and current Cs asst coach Ben Sullivan tweaked in his time in Atlanta. (Derrick White was the other one.)

https://www.nba.com/hawks/features/muscalas-breakout-season-no-surprise-teammates

People ask well will he be able to stop Giannis/Embiid inside? Team defense helps with that. Not being asked often is can the drop defense of Sixers/Bucks recover and contest his pick-and-pops from three? If a non-shooter like Blake did what he did against Embiid last night…

I think you underrate Kornet.
