We are a borderline lottery team with a scrub and 2nd rounder as our primary centers. Poeltl has approximately been a +10 plus/minus player when the Spurs weren't a complete tank job.

We aren't going to convey a lottery pick next season. We will finish in the top 6 or the play in this year, and add depth plus another year of development for Barnes, Achiuwa, Banton, and Koloko. OPJ is back next season. We cannot be worse unless there is a talent shift back into the East. It's a good deal. Vote abysmal if you didn't read this post and you are an emotional teenager.

I thought you said this team doesn't need a traditional C?

Top 6 seems really steep, I was assuming it was top 20. Not sure how this makes any sense

Did you read it? And how do these two things conflict?

But now that we have more information about this team, about the way it is coached, about Scottie, OG happiness, FVV.... probably would not have done this -- especially with this level of protection.

the timing seems a bit off, but otherwise i'm a fan of this move. means they keep two of Vanvleet, GTJ and Pöltl this summer with Fred being the most likely to bounce. this team desperately needed a rim protecting big who can pass and Jakob fits nicely. they'll still most likely add a lotto pick too and aside from Wemby + Scoot every other lottery pick is in a similar tier. use the lotto pick to replace Fred and i'm happy with this lineup next year.

I don't get this trade. We traded for a starter that wont be on the court late in games. What's the point?

I don't think we are getting a lottery pick at this point. We have a pretty decent path to end up with the #7 or #8 seed via the play in. Whether that is good or bad, it is what it is.

Can someone please explain to me the logic of trading a FRP for him, when he is a UFA and we could have signed him for free in the offseason?

I’ll explain it when you explain how we sign him with no cap space.

the logic is they'd have to let both FVV & GTJ walk to create the cap room to sign Yak. this gives them more flexibility which has always been this FO's MO.

now they'll probably only keep one of the two and try to sign and trade the other this summer for a deeper bench.

The plan is to re-sign him anyways.

We can definitely be worse. If Siakam gets injured, get ready to send a lottery pick to the Spurs.

With how much we play our starters, an injury isn't exactly an unlikely outcome.

Raptor fans in this forum 1 month or less ago:

Get us Poeltl

Ideally this season ends with another high draft pick, and ideally a guy like Poeltl(if Flynn/CB/future first or seconds can do it) FVV/GTJ/Barnes/OG/Pascal/Poeltl/Draft pick..and one or two of the young bench... That's the future.

..then trade Boucher and 1st for Poeltl and 2nd

... Sign me up. FVV/GtJ/OG/Pascal/Poltl with Barnes as first off the bench? Little shallow in the guards but that's a damn good team.

Just read we are interested in Poeltl. I like this.

Guys guys guys…….we need poeltl. BRING BACK THE YAK I'd do this 100%. But the Spurs know they got a good one. Been heartbroken since Yakub Purrtl was dealt. He is THE perfect 5 for the Raptors, as he finishes at the hoop, rebounds an ...

Re-signing isn't the same as signing.

You can re-sign a player without cap space. You can't sign a player without cap space.

We added talent at the second most needed spot next to 3 pt shooting. We get to move someone to the bench when everyone is healthy that can produce.

This place is insufferable.
