Hey guys! MIN fan here, and I thought I could give you a little inside info about these three guys.
Vanderbilt will be a fan favorite, because he is an all out hustler, and he inspires other players to play defense. He is really skinny which hurts him when he tries to bang, but he wriggles inside for offensive rebounds. He’s not a good shooter and can’t catch difficult passes, but you will love him on the court. He’s long and quick and brings grit on defense. MIN got him as a throw in, and found we couldn’t keep him out of the starting line up.
Malik Beasley set MIN’s single season record last year for three pointers in a season - and he did it mainly coming off the bench! I underestimated his impact coming in, but if you make that many three’s, it’s because you take, and make, a lot of difficult shots. Beasley has the ability to catch a ball on a full run and shoot accurately, which is a crazy skill that gives him ridiculous gravity. He has great mechanics, and he’s one of the five best three point shooters in the league. There was no residual problems from his arrest 2.5 years ago and his teammates liked him.
D’Angelo Russell is not the same player he was when you had him, or even three months ago. Russell never liked being a point guard and always insisted he was a combo guard. He is an excellent passer, but if he plays PG too long, he invariable starts questioning when he should shoot and when he should pass. I think he’s #10 in assists, but he makes dumb turnovers. However, last December MIN started experimenting with Anthony Edwards at point guard, and DLo had more of a complimentary scorer role. This seemed to really help him, and after a poor start, he was shooting 50/40/90 since December 1, and he’s in the middle of his best season ever. He can be extremely hot and cold though - in a game last week, he was 9-for-9 in the first half with 8 3’s, and 0-for-6 in the second half. He is not athletic, but he is crafty enough to always get his own shot, so he’s good at the end of the shot clock. He’ll never be a good defender, but he will be a good offensive fit with you, running the offense when your stars want him too, but he’s an even better shooter when you put the ball in LeBron’s hands.
