Another thought too. He made this a respectable team that players like KD wanted to come to. And he just reversed that completely. Who’s going to ever want to come here now

KD and Kyrie are the ones who came in here and sh*t all over the place. Marks is at fault for letting them do it.

They destroyed everything. Them. Not Marks.

I don't think it's as clear cut as all the blame goes on KD and Kyrie, the NBA doesn't operate by the same values as the real world. The NBA superstar is pretty much its own genus in that it needs to be coddled and looked after daily like a tamagotchi in order to operate. That's the blood price you pay for contention in the league. And it's clear we failed to do that, in turn bye bye on getting in the big fish in free agency.

I'm not sure I blame Marks for it though, I'm sure he's just operating on Joe Tsai orders

GM’s aren’t more the “team” than players.
Absolutely should be fired. He eventually will. The reality will settle. Even this board barely mentions Harden anymore. Especially with how well he’s playing. Those “you showed him” emotions will pass and how bad he performed will eventually be the only subject across nets media.

Meh, he put together a super team, then the components of the super team blew it up from the inside out, and he’s still fielding what should be a respectable roster that can at least compete as a low tier playoff team.

He’s a great GM. Even after trading all our picks for a player anyone would have traded for, he just recovered our draft capital and we’re in a great position for a rebuild. We still should have a competitive low tier playoff team, while having actual draft capital and will have cap space for the next round of big time free agents.

We’re fine, this is nowhere near a Billy King situation, when we were one of the worst teams in the league, with no picks, and no one wanted to come here.

So we have like 11 wings and still no backup center on the heels of trading a top 10-15 player in NBA history. Couldn't even trade Seth Curry who we're going to lose for nothing in the summer. But at least he helped Joe Tsai cut his luxury tax bill.

Another Sean Marks #masterclass.

Fire him now.

The KD trade will go down as a historically bad trade, but this is just salt in the wound

Were tanking guys.

All we needed to do was to pay Kyrie to keep KD and we'd be sitting here today as contenders. We all saw the price for role players was cheap at the deadline.

But no, Tsai had to wave his dick around and condemn us to 30 win land for the immediate future

Half our fanbase cares more about guys like Theo Pinson doing funny dances on the bench rather than winning games so nobody will care.

Trading KD with 3.5 years left on his contract while still having a chance to win it this year might immortalize Joe Tsai in NBA history.

Just a hilariously bad move, I thought the 8 picks for Harden for Simmons couldn't be topped. Well we've just done it

Lol So, do you actually know if Seth may stay? Because it’s been said multiple times in podcasts that Callie Rivers, Seth’s wife and Doc River’s daughter loves Brooklyn and the commute to see her dad in Philly. Apparently, Doc drives here to see his grand kids.

They likely knew he would be willing to stay. They aren’t dumb enough not to trade him if we saw the return for Crowder. If they dealt KD, Crowder and Kessler to desired situations...why would we not deal Curry unless he indicated he doesn’t mind re-signing?

The hell it will.

You saw what teams were willing to trade for KD this summer, and it was pitiful. Marks just managed to get a vastly better haul before an aging Durant manages to get injured again, and I for one am blowing a *huge* sigh of relief.

On the contrary, I had zero confidence the Nets were going anywhere significant with KD & KI. There are just too many equal or better teams who meshed better and had more experience for me to think otherwise.

You want to talk about hilariously bad moves? Maxing Kyrie and hoping that these two headcases wouldn't find a way to bungle things up is your free circus that never ends.

Personally, I had enough of that clown show.

I think the organisation needs a big reset in the offseason. I can see a new GM and HC being brought in.

Marks contract ends at the end of the season, so it makes it a lot easier.

Kind of telling that Marks made no more moves after KD and Kyrie. It allows a new GM to takeover and mold the roster in their vision, using all the assets acquired from KD, Kyrie, Harden.

I will acknowledge both sides are to blame. I mean if you pitted Tsai and Marks against KD and Kyrie it would play out like divorce proceedings. Both sides will blame everything on the other side and actually have somewhat of a point.

However to me I just can't deal with giving up KD at the time we did. It'd be like divorcing Bezos 2 months before Amazon had it's IPO. In this case the sensible thing to do was for Tsai to swallow his pride and pay KD and Kyrie. And I say that very much knowing Kyrie is the the cost of doing business with KD. I mean if we paid Deandre Jordan as a tax....

There's no tank when you don't control your draft picks.

More importantly: are you seriously saying they should've given Kyrie a 4- or 5-year deal? Literally zero NBA GMs have been willing to do that, despite every one of them having 2 chances to do so, with a 3rd bite at the apple coming this summer. There's an irrefutable reason they're not interested: he destroys everything he touches, just like he did here.

It's not unreasonable to look at the debacle the KD-Kyrie era turned into and say that Marks, as GM, is ultimately accountable. I don't agree, but it's not unreasonable.

But it's insane to think that the right move was to get married to Kyrie.

I mean, the idea of both sides having their say appeals to my sense of fair play, but... what can KD & KI legitimately say that Tsai & Marks let them down on? Not to mention, most of the blame Kyrie seems to allude to doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, in fact echoing strongly his actions & words towards previous teams.

Well, sunk cost is a hell of a thing. Kinda reminds me of a poker pro with a great hand & a bunch of his chips shoved in who realises that he's probably not going to be able to win, and bravely makes the decision to fold at the next raise.

I feel like if these guys had been even moderately more committed to the Nets, Kyrie would have gotten his max already, and these two could have taken a few more shots at a title. The bar was about 5" high, and they still couldn't figure out how to get over it. That's a terrible sign to me.

He sucks and should have been fired before. The man doesn't do anything during the season and acts too late.

I don't care what people say about the stars, the idiot hired Nash who was way over his head and kept bringing crap role players on the team. Guess what? He still hasn't signed a back up big and the team had assets like Harris, Mills, Curry who could have been traded for picks.

He traded Irving for role players who when he could have gotten more picks (He should have done his due diligence in communicating with Durant) then when the Nets realized they were stuck because Marks had no idea what to do they blew it up and made the Irving trade stupidity. Durant trade is what it is, not a good move not a bad move considering any GM would have gotten a similar haul.
