Is Kyrie Irving a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer already?

Post#1 » by Drygon » Thu Feb 9, 2023 8:20 pm

Here's Kyrie Irving's NBA accomplishments from his career

- 23.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG & 5.7 APG on 47.1/39.2/88.3 shooting splits (regular season)
- 23.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG & 4.8 APG on 45.5/39.3/89.1 shooting splits (playoffs)
- NBA champion (2016)
- 8× NBA All-Star (2013–2015, 2017–2019, 2021, 2023)
- NBA All-Star Game MVP (2014)
-All-NBA Second Team (2019)
- 2× All-NBA Third Team (2015, 2021)
- 50–40–90 club (2021)
- NBA Rookie of the Year (2012)
- NBA All-Rookie First Team (2012)
- NBA Three-Point Contest champion (2013)

There's no doubt Kyrie has been one of the best players in NBA during most of his time. His ability to finish at the rim, handle the basketball, court vision, etc. are exceptional.

Do you think Kyrie is a 1st Ballot HOF?

I don’t like Kyrie, but he’s a lock for the hall.

Definitely. Anybody who says different is just being hateful.
My opinion may not be your opinion or their opinion but I have it.

He'll get into the hall of fame. Whether it's on the first or second ballot I have no idea and I don't think it really matters.

Depends who you ask. To his current peers or guys who played against him I wager they all say yes. Just look at their reaction when he wasnt on the 75th team. If you ask the media and some fans they would say no. But I always go back to Mitch Richmond because he’s the standard for HOF now even though he didnt get in on the first ballot. Kyrie has been on more winning/memorable teams and hit the title winning shot for a franchise so he may sneak in on the first try.

The real question should be what team is going to retire Kyrie’s jersey

For sure, 8 time All Star with a Game winning shot in an NBA Finals Game 7. If you've seen some of the names they've let in you'll quickly realize Kyrie is a lock for the Hall whether you like him or not

Cleveland will definitely retire his jersey.

The only reason he wouldn't be in the hall, given who is already enshrined, would be spite. I think he misses 1st ballot simply due to the drama, unless he's a choir boy from here on out (lololol) but he's a lock to eventually make it.

Tim Hardaway isn't a bad comparison for precedent. Great talent, made a bunch of all-star teams, had some playoff success. Ran his mouth and said some homophobic comments so he got dinged and passed over a few times to make a point. I expect the same treatment for Kyrie, just sub Black Israelite propaganda and vaccine drama for homophobia as the reasons for delay.

Probably not.

He hasn't played enough games. Maybe they can put him into the part-time Hall of Fame.

When I saw Tracy McGrady get in, it shows that the HOF has low requirements. So Irving probably gets in somehow.

I mean compared to Yao Ming who opened doors, or Allen Iverson who inspired, what unique thing McGrady did for growth of the game? He didnt win anything either. I like Tracy, but his accomplishments seem minimal to be in the HOF which I once held in high regard. This is more of a knock on the HOF then Tracy.

Well, you missed some accomplishments. Kyrie won an Olympic Gold Medal in 2016, another gold in the 2014 FIBA championship, and a 3rd gold in the 2010 FIBA Americas U18.

So, YES.

Probably since the bar is so low, but realistically he shouldn't be. Aside from some AS appearances and a couple 2nd and a 3rd team nod for All-NBA, he has zero of the big individual accolades you would normally expect from a HOFer (FMVP, MVP, DPOY, scoring champ, etc)

178 players are in the HOF. Dame was named top 75 All Time (Kyrie got snubbed). Do the Math, Kyrie’s a lock for the Hall.

Well if you go by Zach Lowe's "can't explain an era of NBA basketball without him" then maybe...
