Darius Bazley news and discussion

Post#1 » by Saberestar » Thu Feb 9, 2023 8:44 pm

He is 6'8 barefoot and has a 7 feet wingspan. Left handed PF who is agile, athletic and has a high motor.

Interesting player who can help a lot on defense. His timing to alter shots is nice.

We needed some wing depth, I like the pickup. Saric is a solid offensive player and I like his game but he's fairly atrocious on d.

Of the dozen or so games I've watched with him I've always just seen him as a young, athletic, long and decent defender but on offense....just super raw. I don't feel confident in his PF of the future potential but he's young, he's cheap and he'll likely get extended for a team friendly deal imo.

When we're a team with fewer young solid players with potential and with less opportunities to draft now that we have 4 picks outgoing, I think we need to do all we can to tap into the g-league, undrafted players and young reclamation projects like Bazley.

Well all he needs to do on this team is run the floor hard and provide some size and athleticism on defense.

Every team needs a bunch of 6'8ish guys to compete these days and post-trade that's definitely the thinnest part on the Suns roster, Suns basically will wish for Bazley to be a homeless man's version of Mikal.

The worrisome part is that he was buried on OKC for subpar shooting and passing, which are supposed to be core elements of the Suns’ philosophy. There’s an opportunity for him to play an energy D role and develop his skills from there, but you hate to bet on the Thunder being wrong evaluating their own talent.

I hope for Baze's sake he does well in Phoenix. Never really developed here which is sad given his raw talent.

I'm hoping Dario Saric does well here.

I mean, he's still only 22.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Shooting .400 on 3's this season but a low volume. Played one season with CP3. Have to wonder if Paul had some input on this trade.

I hope so too. With the amount of picks we gave up, we need to take chances on young guys like Bazley and we need them to be at least rotation players

With Saric, you guys are getting a pros pro. He doesn't have a big voice nor is he old either but the guy is a vet presence you want in a young locker room. He's limited by his lack of athleticism but he is skilled, he has a high IQ and he just plays the right way. Just don't expect some high end stretch big.

I doubt Saric will be there past this season. Won't be too surprised if he is bought out.

I don't expect he'll be around past this season so everything I said was about the remaining 30 odd games

He will probably be bought out and go to Miami. Or Presti will trade him to Miami for a 2nd.

Well the Thunder have been a bad team for the last 2+ years. They were playing a bunch of 20 year olds with barely any structure, sitting out SGA frequently and with no real vets to speak of since Paul left. Not the best environment for a role player to develop. You pick up bad habits, and aren't really held accountable.

We saw how bad we were from 2015-2019.

The hope is someone like Bazley can now simplify his game, and focus only on what he's really good at now that he'll be surrounded by superstars. Superstar talent is the ideal environment for young role players to develop.

Between this guy, Craig, Okogie and Ish we have guys who will have the only task to focus on defending the opposing best offensive player. Craig already did well against PG13 in 2021. Looking commited this year he could be just what Suns need next to the big 4. Bazley appears a player in the same mold though too inexperienced. Okogie can take on smaller players like Morant, Irving.

Filling out the roster with defense first role players is definitely the way to go with the current roster. Of course 2 way role players are ideal but those don't grow on trees. KD is a great defender (Luka could hardly get a shot off when KD decided to guard him straight up earlier this season) but you want to protect him from unnecessary fouls and injuries by giving the dirty work to a role guy. And KD is probably more valuable as a roaming help defender anyway with his length and mobility.

Playing KD and Booker together mitigates the need for good offensive role players around them, since those 2 don't need good spacing to be effective. Similar to how KD and Kyrie allowed Nets to play 2 non shooters in Claxton and Ben Simmons together and still rank as a top 5 offense.

I still think he has a chance in the league.

I still think he has a chance on the Suns. He has a motor, handles, and can play defense. If his three ball comes back then he is the type of player needed around Booker and Durant.

Would not be surprised if the Suns give him the qualifying offer and let him seek out a contract from other teams that could be matched. Also they may offer a two-to-three-year deal with a small amount of guaranteed money in those last years. It does make sense to sign him as his contract would be available to use in trades. Otherwise a bunch of aggregated vet mins to make a trade happen seems harder.

Agreed this was a super odd trade and only gave us a super distant 2nd round pick. We played him so sparingly we have no indication of if he'll fit in well next season or not we should have just held on to Dario.
