Fire him now.

The KD trade will go down as a historically bad trade, but this is just salt in the wound

We got 4 unprotected firsts, a swap, and two solid young 3 + D wings. How is that a bad trade?

He’s a great GM. Even after trading all our picks for a player anyone would have traded for, he just recovered our draft capital and we’re in a great position for a rebuild. We still should have a competitive low tier playoff team, while having actual draft capital and will have cap space for the next round of big time free agents.

We’re fine, this is nowhere near a Billy King situation, when we were one of the worst teams in the league, with no picks, and no one wanted to come here.

Marks is a flawed GM and his roster construction ability is honestly not very good, but he has us positioned even better now than we were in 2019. The haul we got for KD is nothing short of excellent

Lol So, do you actually know if Seth may stay? Because it’s been said multiple times in podcasts that Callie Rivers, Seth’s wife and Doc River’s daughter loves Brooklyn and the commute to see her dad in Philly. Apparently, Doc drives here to see his grand kids.

They likely knew he would be willing to stay. They aren’t dumb enough not to trade him if we saw the return for Crowder. If they dealt KD, Crowder and Kessler to desired situations...why would we not deal Curry unless he indicated he doesn’t mind re-signing?

I didn't even think about this.

I like Seth. If he wants to hang around and call this home, I'm good with that. I want guys here who want to be here unlike the two children we just kicked to the curb

Trading KD with 3.5 years left on his contract while still having a chance to win it this year might immortalize Joe Tsai in NBA history.

Just a hilariously bad move, I thought the 8 picks for Harden for Simmons couldn't be topped. Well we've just done it

KD didn't want to be here. Kyrie ruined everything. What were the Nets supposed to do? Serious question

Also , we had an agreement that if KD ran it back with us and it didn’t work out, we would work with KD in a good faith. KD kept his end of the deal. Things went sideways and he asked out. It would have been way worse had we held him hostage. The trade is fair.

Yep. Learning that makes this a lot easier to swallow. It worked out in the end for both parties.

That is all completely correct, in the real world. However when it comes to NBA superstars there is no bar for them to clear. You put them in the best sedan chair you can buy and then your organisation will carry them over any bar they want.

Tsai is too smart a businessman not to know that. Obviously he thought KD and Kyrie were no longer worth it. Kyrie I agree, but I still can't get on board with trading KD. To me you do what you can to keep Durant and you keep Kyrie around to amuse him, it's not like he was not giving us all-star level production. If you can pay Ben the max and also paid the Deandre Jordan tax I think Kyrie was a small price to pay in order to keep KD.

I would have paid Kyrie, as part of the price to keep KD. Maybe it's just me, but I can't get behind giving KD away voluntarily when he's still got something left.

Apparently Nets had a chance to trade Simmons for Bam and said no.

For that alone he needs to be fired. It was obvious Simmons was a head case after last season.

Marks deserves to be fired for sure. He has had this job long enough.

The way he handled the Kyrie/KD era was flawed from the start. He gave them way too much power from the start. Then abruptly cut if off after he had enough of Kyrie's antics.

This was never going to work. He doesn't know how to handle superstar personalities at all. We just need somebody new at this point.

Miami writer came out and called BS on that rumor. Why would Utah want Simmons over the haul they got?

I totally believe Winfield.

He reported the entire collapse of KD/Kyrie before anyone else.

I mean, they got Harden and KD to their preferred team on the way out... Kyrie didn't get his way, but they're have been way worse exits...

Even if there was a trade for Bam, it must have been part of a bigger KD trade with Simmons AND all the KD picks going to the Jazz.

I'd take Bridges, Cam Johnson, and picks over just Bam. Not even sure Bam/Clax works.

Keeping KD for what?

This team did not have a realistic chance of winning a title with no 2nd star.

And KD was not bought in. Maybe if he wanted to move forward and compete with this team it would be worth it.

But he didn't. And the Suns gave us a monster offer.

It made way more sense to just rebuild now. Then lose in the first or second round with KD. Trade rumors the whole season. And then he asks out again in the off season.

Like what was our end game? Keep doing this for years to come?

Durant is an amazing talent. But hes constantly injured. A terrible leader. And he only wants to play with other stars. He realistically has like 1 or 2 good years left after this.

It was clearly time to move on. Kyrie ended our title hopes the minute he demanded a trade.

I agree.

Also KD made the mature decision to extend with us because he thought Harden and Kyrie would too.

Its just stupid to force him to stay when he was willing to commit to this franchise long term when the other two clowns were not.

He could have just not extended and left this off season for nothing.

Thanks. I still don't believe it, as I don't think Winfield has much credibility. That article is 100% Kyrie PR spin, and part of Kyrie's spin now is making Marks look bad. It's payback for the "disrespect" Kyrie feels the Nets unfairly treated him with.

But I agree that IF Marks could've turned Simmons into Bam and chose not to do so, that would be pretty close to a firing-level offense. I just think there is essentially zero likelihood that it actually happened.
