Re: Reggie Jackson to Charlotte for Plumlee
I'm glad Jackson is being bought bought out. He'd be a slight upgrade in the short-term, not that we really need it, but I'd rather keep giving DSJ and/or Theo the burn and hope they can become a long-term solution as Melo's backup.

Doesn't make sense to trade Plum, who should've had decent value, for an old backup PG.
In the decade or so that Ive been following this team, every time there has been a trade or some move that we all thought didn't make sense and there must be another move or some aspect of the deal not being reported it has turned out that there was no other move or missing piece and it was just a bad deal. I'm not holding my breath.

Mike Muscala went for 2 2nds. Crowder (who hasn't played in half a season and is a sook) went for 5.
Plumlee balls out for 3 months and we get a solitary second (and more money back) from a team that has a good owner that will ensure it's a late second in 2028.
It's OK to acknowledge at this time Bitch Kupcake is waaaay out of this depth as a GM in 2023.

What have we done in the last few years that gives you confidence that we aren't stupid and everything we do lacks thoughtfulness?

Re: Reggie Jackson to Charlotte for Plumlee
That's the irritating thing. Plumlee legitimately had a career year this season, he can definitely help a playoff team as a low end starter or a good backup. And several teams needed one. And we got get a middling 2nd round pick for him in a few years.
Maybe other teams just don't value our players. Considering that Oubre and Rozier didn't get traded either. Although on those two, Mitch/Cliff/MJ may legitimately view them as key pieces going forward.

Do we think NBA GMs are less sophisticated than our own fan base when they look at Mason? Literally no one on here wanted Mason on the roster this season. He is a 32 year old C on an expiring deal playing for an awful team who has never in his career posted comparable stats as this latest run. No NBA team was going to give up real value for that.
And that's ignoring the fact that the "we have a brain dead GM" crowd assumed we weren't even trying to move Mason, which now has been proven clearly untrue.

Muscala was traded for 2 seconds... the 2nds are Boston 2nd this year currently pick 60 and Boston 2nd in 2029.
Crowder is a defensive wing that has started in 2/3 finals. Proven he can play big mins in the playoffs.
If we would have gotten 2 seconds for Plumlee would everyone be happy?

Opinions vary, obviously, but for me personally the issue with Plumlee was being in the way of our young 1st rounders not his actual value as a player. I saw him as a useful rotation big for a playoff team, but not someone you want blocking Mark, Nick and at this point (since our season is screwed) Kai. There was also the PTSD from Cliff's first run making many of us fear he'd favor a vet over youth regardless of how that might hurt us in the big picture.
Plumlee was a very pleasant surprise this year. He still needed to go for prospect development and not fitting into the long-term plan, but he wasn't trash.

Re: Reggie Jackson to Charlotte for Plumlee
Mitch showed us how his GM chops have shriveled when he was put on the clock to make a decision on trading our 13th pick. Maybe they were prepared to do that if Williams was going to be available for the later pick, but he was thoroughly unprepared for such a crappy offer from Detroit. He was on the clock and fumbling around with it like a flopping fish in the boat. We wouldn’t have known without the video and audio from that being made public.
He’s not incompetent, but he’s lost multiple steps IMO. Now I can’t tell if he just has no energy, is too old for the management game, or just suffers from IDGAF syndrome. Yeah, I’m saying all this with no real knowledge..I get it. But I see the evidence of what other GMs and front office results are.
There is a reason our nearly hired head coach bailed out at the last minute. We all blamed him, but maybe he got enough of a look behind the curtain to say “…uh oh”. Clifford has done exactly what he’s always done while coaching here, and that does NOT include development. Mitch hired someone who wasn’t going to do what HE SAID HE WANTED from the previous coach and certainly from the new coach. So why did he do that? IMO, Mitch has become a low risk easy rider. He’s punching the clock, doing the GM thing but on a glide path. Maybe the internal dynamics are bad…maybe the Jordan and company posse is just too overbearing to buck. I don’t know, but I do know our results have sucked. The last straw was the culture that has been forming within the team, culminating in a smarmy animal house of good times and good weed youngins…who promptly blew another play in game, then saw Miles self destruct his wife and our current season.
Has Mitch had ONE thing to say about all this? Any interview demonstrating leadership and direction? None that I’ve seen.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

They showcased him on route to a 15-41 season only for the reward to be a 2028 2nd round pick. Meanwhile, our young guys have no value because they don't have experience. This is what got the Magic into trouble during the Clifford era. But, they were able to get the #1 pick and now have a much better future than us currently. We need that #1 pick bad.

we win the lotto, get Wemby, Miles signs on a discounted rate, Mark continues his improvement including his 3 point shot.
Charlotte becomes a top 4 team then Mitch wins executive of the year

that could honestly happen

Will be fun to watch boxscores of Plumlee and Jackson (post buy out) for the rest of the year at least.

Hell will freeze over, melt, re-freeze, melt again, then re-freeze a second time before any of that comes close to happening.

Plumlee with 8 pts, 5 boards and 3 assists in his debut in 17 mins including 4/4 from FT.
Tonight, he had another solid outing 6/6/3 in just 18 mins and 2/2 from FT.
